I agree that the Series Finale was appropriate and satisfying. Holly Anderson, a Grantland critic, thought so too. She makes some interesting comparisons between the first episode and the last. Highly recommended! Clearly, Holly is going to miss Justified. So will I.

Something I haven't seen mentioned. I think Raylan's experience in the deputy's car being treated like a criminal and told to shut up had an impact on him to see himself in a way he hadn't before and may have contributed to his subsequent actions in the finale.

He was being treated just like he had treated all the dirtbags he had handcuffed on the show.

They showed Ava ending up in Lebec, which is only a few miles from where the show did most of its filming and if they did actually film near Lebec I was thinking it might be this lake below,

This area is just east of I-5 at the top of the Grapevine/Lebec, CA

Maybe so... although on Google maps those hillsides look more arid than the lush green of the picture.

If they do a Wynn Duffy prequel series, it must be called "Wynn, Lose or Draw"

I enjoyed the series and finale. Salute to a great show...
Raylan's "God Damnit" when Ava took off with the car was a direct homage to Stinger from Top Gun...

True, but that could have been the time of the year and it does snow up there, although the water level looks awfully high for a lake in California.

Wow, it seems like unanimous praise for the finale of a great show. I was very pleased with how it ended.

Time now to watch this seasons The Americans and see if it lives up to its hype.

On loan from Kentucky for authenticity. They had to send the water back after the episode.

I seem to recall (although it's been 6 years now) that the only episode filmed in Kentucky was the pilot - too bad they couldn't have filmed the entire series in Ky., especially since the closing credits thanked the citizens of Harlan County - I'm sure that the county would have have welcomed & benefited from having "Justified" do primary filming there, although I imagine the economics dictated shooting in SoCal.

My opinion...the shootout showed Raylan that "young guns" were catching up with him and his talents were waning. A change in attitude was in order.

Ellstin Limehouse. Would be fitting and proper, and she did have some time to bargain with him in her aborted escape.
I think it was obviously Duffy. Multiple reasons:

1. Where did Duffy get all the money to live the high life they described he was currently living in the future?
2. They had an entire scene dedicated to Duffy describing what he needed, the size needing to be much bigger then a duffle bag, etc. etc. Seems like a waste of screen time to spend so much on his plan for nothing.
3. Duffy being in on the whole robbery and what was going down and knowing about it.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. The pilot was shot near Pittsburg, PA. Not a frame of this series was ever shot in KY. (except maybe some of the establishing shots in the title sequence.

On the subject of where that shoot-out was shot--I don't believe it was around Santa Clarita, unless they CGI'd those green hills in. Although Santa Clarita does have rolling hills, they are very, VERY brown. They would had to go up near Lake Arrowhead, and even that doesn't look right.

Tell you what, I'll ask Dave and get back to you.

Yeah, the bit with Winona being married to another man and Raylan just playing weekend Daddy was a bit odd in my book. I guess their 50/50 chance fell on the side of failing again. It just felt out of place though.

Asked Dave where that shoot-out was shot, he said it's Bouquet Reservoir in Green Valley, about 20 miles NE of Santa Clarita. I guess it really is a green valley!

I'd be interested in hearing why they chose Lebec as the place where Ava ended up as it seems like an oddly specific location and makes me think it has some meaning to a member of the crew/writers/etc.

Actually I really liked that. Some adult scenes where both are obviously still attracted to each other but focus on their daughter... and life goes on.

I really liked all of the closing scenes. The gunfight kept me on edge - it's one of the shows where there was a real possibility of the lead dying in a hail of lead.

The last scene was a killer. Gotta love both of those actors and everyone involved.

Now I only have Game of Thrones and sports to keep me on cable.
