HDNet Movies Sneak Preview - Experience exclusive broadcasts of new films before they hit theaters and DVD

George A Romero's Survival of the Dead
Premieres Wednesday, May 26th at 8:00pm followed by encore presentations at 9:35pm and 11:15pm

Starring: Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Monroe, Devon Bostick
Directed and Written by George A. Romero

The master filmmaker continues to reinvent the modern horror genre with a film that draws new battle lines between the living and the dead. A combat-weary band of soldiers is lured to a remote island that promises to be the last paradise on earth, only to discover that even here, miles away from civilization, there is no escape from a world at war. Told with Romero's iconic sense of humor and keen eye for the fault-lines in contemporary culture, George A. Romero's SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD expands and intensifies the zombie universe for which he is celebrated.

Can't wait to see Kelly's Heroes again, and Where Eagles Dare will probably find a permanent place on my theater's DVR hard drive.

Thanks for the messages guys. Believe it or not, some corners of the internet aren't always as friendly and educated on HD as the people on this forum. We certainly appreciate your incites and encouragement.

I think May looks pretty good and I hope you get a chance to tune in and enjoy!

How might one recommend programming to you? I didn't see any place on the main website where you encourage suggestions.

Since we have you here in our grasp, as it were, I'd like to encourage you to consider screening Moribito, Guardian of the Spirit, in the kidScene block. It was horribly misplaced on [adult swim] when Geneon sold the rights to Turner and deserves a better showing to family audiences. If you folks like that show, you should talk to Production i.G about bringing Erin over here as well, though it's not yet available with a dub in the US.

"Cimarron" looks excellent, the black levels have been fixed. Really great Picture Quality.

June lookes like it will be outstanding, with some real classic titles on HDNet Movies.

And, for those who do not have the BD, be sure to catch SIN CITY. Absolutely jaw-dropping in HD!

Also thanks to HDNet for showing SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD. I know some have savaged it, but I thought it was superior to Romero's last two entries and it was a real treat to be able to view it at home in HD.

Hiya, ZRoss. Where are June's highlights? I find your posts very helpful. I can't find a monthly list at the HDNet Movies site.

Thanks,

I taped the fugitive off of HDnetmovies. I must say that the print was very bad. I heard there are two version. one is mpeg and the other is vc1. the vc1 is a better version. I have seen many HD movies and blurays.. I happen to rent the blu ray and it was much better. the picture seem really soft on the HDnetmovies one. they mostly look very good or excellent. however this is the first time that Ihad seen a crappy one. it takes alot to be that one. specially on a good movie like the fugitive. I would suggest pulling it from the schedule. it will make HD look bad.

Tron was really bad as well, although I don't particularly blame them, it was probably all that was available. It was so bad it didn't even look HD (at least to my eyes). Let's hope the forthcoming Blu-Ray looks better.

I didn't see the HDNet broadcast, but I did see an HD broadcast a while back on some other channel and was still underwhelmed. To be fair, THE FUGITIVE never looked all that great on any format, going back to laserdisc. It always look grainy and somewhat drab to me. The HD-DVD (haven't seen the BD) was VC-1 yet still seemed a bit hazy and dull. Much more like a very good standard DVD than HD.

Check out most flicks from the 80s and early 90s if you want to see bad HD, mainly because of lighting and filming choices that look cheap.

Well tonight, they have 2001 (60s), 2010 (80s) and the 2001-inspired MISSION TO MARS (2000). Of the 3, it's 2010 that looks the weakest, so your comments are on the nose..

Noticed today in the NYC RCN forum (local MS0) that it no longer carries HDNet. A year or so back TWC, which I use, dropped HDNet. So now, even with the currently unused RCN 2nd cable into my home, couldn't see HDNet Movies--that I once greatly enjoyed--even if I wanted too. Hope to see an unbiased account one of these years of how things got so screwed up, MSO-carriage-wise. -- John
