Seriously, has anyone heard anything about the delays on the season 1 box set releases? Seems like a big mystery and there's no info anywhere on a release date. Seems like a big blunder on HBO's part, not getting them out before season 2 starts.

Just watched all of Season 1....today.

I really liked the characters, plot and action.

I'm looking forward to the Season 2 premiere.

Sadly, I don't have HBO - so this preview weekend was fun while it lasted.

interesting start to S2 last night. Nucky getting arrested for voter fraud, with the Commodore setting that up. Commodore staging a fake KKK assault.
Van Alden now gripping with a wife far away and a mistress carrying his love child in his apartment.

Agreed, an excellent start to S-2. Nucky has his work cut out for him.

I wouldn't call it a "fake" KKK assault...seemed pretty real to me!

It's interesting that the local KKK is being portrayed as at least partly an "enforcement" force for the political bosses.

This is one of those shows that moves slowly, tells its complex story in big layers and yet remains very interesting and, occasionally, exciting and moving. Jimmy finally revealing Nucky's gift had a lot more emotion and meaning after Nucky's seemingly unimportant chat with the little kid and some other back story told earlier. Of course, the production values are very high and that always helps.

Wow, no comments on Sunday's episode? Nucky is lucky to have such a cunning girlfriend and Michael K. Williams' expanded role this season is real treat. We basically love every minute of this show.

Totally agree about Williams. He was of my favorites on "The Wire." The scene in the prison cell was amazing, incredibly well written and acted. Chalky's ability to get the others to do his bidding without basically saying a word was really powerful.

I also loved this show. I don't understand when they show coming attractions (they didn't this week but did last week) and the coming attractions don't pan out. If you remember last week's episode they showed coming attractions that made it look like a full fledged race riot was supposed to break out but it didn't.

The 1st episodes always have "coming attractions" previews from the entire season, not just the next episode.

I also really enjoy the show. It's so good there doesn't seem to be much to comment on. Production values are unmatched, and the writing is as good as it gets. Being a character-driven drama, don't expect a big following, not enough shootouts.

Yeah but for the bloodthirsty among us there certainly was a substantial amount. My wife turned away several times.

WOW WOW WOW.

but it's not family oriented
no teen angst either

this show is seriously great! The interaction between Nucky & Margaret is very intriguing to watch.

And the jail scenes with Chalky were really fantastic. you just knew he would eventually do something

we saw the full out war of Nucky vs the Commodore is coming to light in last night's episode

my question, are the writers sticking pretty close to history, ie did this Nucky vs Commodore really happen, or are the writers just making things up now ?

Poor pregnant Lucy. Van Alden is a piece of work. I guess he figures he and his wife will have a baby after all.

TV Notes
HBO Renews 'Boardwalk Empire' for Third Season
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - October 12th, 2011

Three weeks into Boardwalk Empires second season, the HBO Prohibition-era drama has been picked up for a third one. This marks another early renewal for the Terence Winter/Martin Scorsese series, which received its second-season order immediately after the series premiere last fall. Following a triumphant first season, I was eager to see what Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their stellar team had in store, and they continue to surpass our highest expectations, HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said.

Created by Winter, Boardwalk Empire is set in the 1920s in the early days of Prohibition, and chronicles the life and times of Enoch Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed leader of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. While not the runaway hit that HBO's vampire drama True Blood is, Boardwalk has been steady in the ratings, most recently drawing 2.9 million for its original airing on Sunday. With multiple play/DVR viewing included, Boardwalk ranks among HBO's most popular offerings with an average gross audience of 10.7 million.

While it was surprisingly snubbed in most top categories at the Emmys last month, Boardwalk won best directing for a drama series for the Scorsese-helmed pilot and 8 Emmys overall. It also won best drama series and best lead actor (Buscemi) at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards. Season 2 was executive produced by Winter, Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg. The series joins recently renewed True Blood, Game of Thrones and Treme and the upcoming*Luck, Veep, Girls, Ricky Gervais' Life's Too Short and Aaron Sorkin's as-yet untitled news network drama. Still in limbo is the future of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which hinges on creator/star Larry David's committing to another season.

my question, are the writers sticking pretty close to history, ie did this Nucky vs Commodore really happen, or are the writers just making things up now ?

Show creator Terence Winter decided to make Nucky a fictional character so they could have dramatic license with the story line.

There was a real life Commodore (Louis Kuehnle) and he was Nucky's mentor, but the real life Nucky Johnson rose to power only after the Commodore was convicted of voter fraud in 1911. After that Nucky was in totally charge of AC until he went to prison himself in 1941 on federal tax evasion charges (just like Al Capone in 1932). So it appears this part of the story line is not historically accurate.

After released from prison neither Commodore or Nucky regained their previous position and power.

Kuehnle served half of a 1 year sentence, and then challenged Nucky for his old position as boss of AC without success. Following that Nucky agreed to back him running for City Commissioner. The Commodore was elected in 1920 and reelected every four years until his death in 1934 as Commissioner of Parks and Public Property.

Nucky on the other hand did not run again for any elected office after he served 4 years in prison, and was not involved in the organized crime activities of his past. Instead, he became a salesman for an oil company, and with his wife for a local winery. He did support his AC successor Frank S. Farley, and in 1952 when the Farley organization faced a particularly strong election challenge, he campaigned on his behalf in Atlantic City's predominantly black Northside area, where he remained popular. I hope you're correct. With so many interesting characters, plots and sub-plots, I can't understand why the show gave so much screen time in the last episode to Lucy and Van Alden. Maybe its just me, but their tryst is by far the least interesting alley in Atlantic City.

I find it fascinating because of the weirdness of the 2 characters.
