Sure, but Nucky acting vunerable and weak just doesn't feel right.

He needs to "upgrade" his mistressess.

Good catch. I went back and rewatched this season's scenes with Van Alden and his new wife. In the scene with them in their apartment after the iron company had shafted Van Alden on his bonus, the wife is holding their child,a baby boy, and Van Alden looks in one of the baby beds and asks whether Abigail's cold is better. I also caught sight of the second crib in season 3's third episode in which the new wife uses a tried and true technique to get Van Alden to smile and mean it.smile.gif

I agree that Nucky's emotional problems associated with his murder of his surrogate son, Jimmy, have had an impact on Nucky's obsessive behavior over not being able to reach Billie. I think part of that, though, is that Nucky has never had a mistress as charismatic and independent as Billie and he is not handling it well. Lucy was a clinging pain in the fanny but Billie seems not to care all that much about Nucky and certainly doesn't let her relationship with him inhibit her social life.

Bingo!!!

I've known several very tough controling guys over the years who turned to mush when they couldn't control their wife/girlfriend anymore. Pretty much ruined their lives.

I think that story line won't go well for her. If Nucky can't control her I think he'll find a way to eliminate her.

Great episode.

It is all about his love for Angela. Although he was thankful for what Jimmy had done for him he did not like how he treated Angela so Jimmy's death did not disturb him as much. Please, he understood the game Jimmy was playing and the associated consequences.

Is that who the boy was he kept seeing in his dreams or imagination? I can't recall the last time his son was in a scene. Was that some time ago?

I think the boy Nucky keeps seeing is a young Jimmy. Part of the guilt complex others have referred to.

Of course, whenever you see a young kid with a bleeding hole in his cheek, then assume Nucky is seeing Jimmy. tongue.gif I guess it cheaper to hire a child actor in makeup than to bring back the adult in new scenes,.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

This show just became the best on TV.....

The tension and emotions run high....

Nucky is really sinister...and so is Rosetti...their inevitable clash will be EPIC.

Excellent writing, direction and acting.

An outstanding show just got better.

Great episode. Boardwalk Empire is the show I look forward to watching the most for sure. I guess somebody is going to finally start listening to Eli. I also enjoyed watching Capone's violent outbursts juxtaposed with his tenderness toward his son.

This last episode was the only one so far this season I really liked. I have to get more violence to be satisfied.

Great stuff with Al.

This thing with Rosetti is getting ridiculous.
I mean, seriously....Rothstein and Nuck can't hook up on the phone and solve their mutual problem in about 2 minutes?
Pleeeeze.rolleyes.gif

The showrunners are just pulling a fast one, and hoping the audience won't notice this is just a device to get some violence into the show.

I don't think its that simple....

All of these men at some point have been at odds and/or allied with each other.

The violence fits the plot ..

Infact, I don't think the show's creators use excessive violence- just for shock.

These men are not friends, they are all motivated by greed and self-interest.

I agree that BE is getting somewhat more violent but that fits into what really happened with Prohibition. It got more violent as it went along, which indeed is one of the main reasons it got repealed, aside from the fact that it was a dumb idea in the first place. If the Rosetti plot line exists simply as a way to get more violence into the program, the producers have an odd way of doing it, since the ambush at the gas station took place off camera.

Perhaps thats the way it was, but other than Rothstein most of these characters seem fairly lax with their personal security. Given what he just did, there is no way Rosetti could maintain his high profile exposure unless he had a death wish. Even with one eye I suspect Richard could find Tabor Heights. With a scoped rifle.

A truce, which is of mutual benefit to both sides, creates strange bedfellows. But Rosetti is a psychopath beyond reason. He'd better lay low. I hope he does because his character is very entertaining.

I understand what you are saying, but it isn't Rothstein's problem. He is a customer of Nucky. It is Nucky's problem to solve.

The scene at the end between Al and his son nearly brought me to tears. My grown daughter has some hearing loss since (3 months premature) birth, so it hit me doubly hard.

If Rothstein isn't getting his shipments from Nuck BECAUSE of Rosetti (a fellow NYC gangster), then I think Rosetti is Rothstein's problem too.
After all, if Rosetti's territory has booze and Rothstein's doesn't.....it isn't hard to imagine where Al's customers will go.wink.gif

Rothstein only cares about getting the booze, so he'll just forget about Nucky and make a similar (or better) deal with Rosetti to get it from Tabor Heights instead of Atlantic City.
If you go by the previews, that is

Rothstein is a businessman who deals with gangsters. As has been posted, he will just go somewhere else for his booze if Nucky can't deliver. He made it pretty clear in his phone call that Rosetti is not HIS problem.

I get that, but Rosetti is demonstrating a desire and an ability to muscle in on AR.
In the Gangster World, when a competitor threatens one's bottom line, the solution usually involves lead.
Remember, Arnold has already tried diplomacy with Gyp during the Atlantic City meeting.wink.gif

Al is in Chicago. I think you mean Arnold, as in Arnold Rothstein. Also while he was business man, he was also a gambler and racketeer.

I agree Rosetti is Nucky's problem and Rothstein doesn't care where his merchandise comes form. If Rosetti displayed some sense of business acumen then I think Rothstein would dump Nucky in a(sorry, I couldn't help it) NY minute. But Rosetti is so out of control I just can't imagine that Rothstein wouldn't see him as anything but a business liability. At least in the long term. This is why I also see a lead solution.

Even for a gangster, Rosetti is so beyond the pale that it's clear a partnership with him won't end well.
