Why isn't this already HD? It seems like the easiest transition: a pure one camera show with clips of other CBS News segments(most originating in HD) shown. It's too bad they didn't go HD before Michelle Gielan left.

But now it's almost as if the PQ is getting progressively worse. Tonight at the beginning of the 3AM hour the PQ was terrible. Emily Smith's face looked like I was watching it on streaming online video and some of the graphics are jagged and have multi-coloured ghosting, like really bad local SD upconversions looked. But the bug is bright and shiney and even the local ads look OK.

The morning news is a little strange too. It looked like it used to be filmed on the Early Show set but lately it's on some cheesy set and the lighting on Betty Nguyen looked less than flattering the other day. I mean the Early Show finally went HD so why is the one time HD leader falling behind?

Also, it must've been something in distribution because the 4AM hour started and the picture is really good quality SD. Also, the "old" CBS bug is back in the corner.

Also for info it's on WOIO-DT 10-1 Cleveland.

I wathced again last week and while it looks like Up To The Minute may have gone HD, it looks like it is being shot through the bottom of a coke bottle. Fuzzy, fuzzy, fuzzy.

I noticed since Wednesday of this week that the "CBS Up to the Minute" (it's on at 4:15am CST when my alarm goes off) was in HD. It may have been in HD starting Monday, but it just took me that long to notice? It is 4:15am after all . . .

I'm pretty sure the Morning News show was in HD also.

Don't ever make the MISTAKE of buying a Samsung TV..
They consider THIS
normal on a two month old set..

Never watch either but it's good to see process.

I believe this leaves 48 Hours, The Bold and the Beautiful, Amazing Race and Face The Nation as the only CBS HD holdouts.

"Face The Nation" obviously has the gear as the "what's coming up" insert on "Sunday Morning" IS in HD. In the old, 2 HD fronthaul days, Sunday primetime was pre-fed on Sunday mornings. Don't know if they're still doing that on one of the fronthauls, but sending the 90-minute "Sunday Morning" in HD to all of the respective time zones would pretty much eat up all of the rest of them.

Just speculating based on the old days when I'd kill a Sunday morning by flipping through the staggered network feeds.

Working for the company, you'd think I'd know, but TV doesn't talk to radio much.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

To my knowledge, since CBS went to their DVB-S2 system, they have room for eight simultaneous HD feeds. I don't know if that's enough for everything on Sunday mornings, but I'd think it should be.

I usually watch it in the AM , or at least take a peek at the first few minutes - more of a fan of World News Now (nice to laugh at 4AM)

Anywho, noticed the same on Wednesday, but not before, it may have been, but I can't say that I noticed.

The CBS Morning News is in HD on WJZ but Up To The Minute is in SD. Don't know what the deal is. (WJZ is owned by CBS.)

On WCBS DT Up to the Minute is SD. We get it starting at 3:30am ET.
The CBS News Promos that run during the breaks are HD so I don't get why Up to the Minute is SD.

The CBS Morning News at 4am ET however is a very soft HD and that set is real basic looking.

Anyone know why the shows use different sets?
The Up to the Minute set actually looks better.

I want to see Betty in crystal clear HD, not through a Coke bottle.

I recorded a bit of both shows on the DVR, just to see if they were HD or not. Here on WFSB in Hartford-New Haven, Up to the Minute is 4:3 SD. CBS Morning News is a bit more weird, it's definitely 16:9 at least. The graphics look HD, but the live footage from the studio looks 16:9 SD.

Hopefully CBS Morning News will transition fully to crystal clear HD, and hopefully Up to the Minute will make the full jump soon. I imagine it couldn't be much longer before they do.

Has anybody noticed that they have gone back to SD for UTTM!!! Or is it just CBS 2 in Chicago that has done this?

Not sure, UTTM on WBZ is SD as well, however Morning News (that airs at 4 AM) was HD here last nite.

Anyone have an update as to why CBS can't broadcast its Up to The Minute newscast in HD when it's done from the HD CBS News Studio in NYC?

CBS Morning News done from the same studio is broadcast in HD.

It just seems odd when every other show on CBS except for Face The Nation and 48 Hours is broadcast in HD.

Checking Up To The Minuet this week the feed looks analog SD on WCBS-DT
There is bad dot crawl on the graphics and objects.
Even the logo looks like the old SD bug which is less transparent.

Anyone know why this show is still SD?
They switch to HD for The CBS Morning News which is done from the same studios.

It is not the same studios, strictly speaking. Up To The Minute comes from a small news syndication operation on the fifth floor of the CBS studio building that is still all SD from mostly industrial-level equipment, it hasn't been updated in almost twenty years. She comes downstairs at about 3:45am (when UTTM is running pre-recorded) and sits in the large full-HD Evening News studio to do the 4:00am CBS Morning News. She then takes a car over to the GM studios at 59th Street and 5th Avenue for the Early Show. Busy gal!

The news syndication area is being rebuilt in full HD in another part of the building, look for it later in the year.

Yep !... Watching it right now.... Finally ! And it looks great with the new set !.... Did you see the news anchor Terrell open up this half-hour, all excited, with : "Welcome to CBS News Up to the Minute.... in HD" ?
We can now take it out of the AVS HD Hall of Shame....
