Rick, as constable, made his own decision to confront him, which led to the fight, with drunk dude throwing the first punch. I see "drunk dude" reacting more to seeing Rick at Jesse's house earlier in the day than to his confrontation with Carol.

Wasn't the whole point that Carol wanted Rick to kill him? She told Rick that he was going to have to do that, then she set things in motion to make sure it would happen.

Exactly... my point was that Carol was the one that stirred the pot to a boil like that. Drunk dude was someone who needed to be dealt with... but Carol wasn't going to let people try to handle it any other way but her way.

I'm still waiting for the kid to tell his mom that Carol threatened to drag him out of his bed... After all that has happened, once that little nugget gets out, no way Carol is allowed to stay in town.

Super Bowls

Super Bowls account for the 21 most-watched programs in American TV history in terms of total audience.

That is a fun list to look through. A few notables

. Johnny Carson beat the Cosby show
. ST:TNG beat gunsmoke. I guess gunsmoke went on too long.
. Breaking Bad, one of the best shows ever, barely beat out Dr. Quinn medicine woman.
. The fugitive is number 3 all time. Who would've guessed that. I guess it was the Lost of its days, if Lost did not drag it out endlessly.
. St elsewhere is sandwiched between full house and MacGyver.
. Two of my favorites, Buffy and Gilmore girls, got same number of viewers.

The Fugitive was must watch TV back in the day .. from 1963–1967 if that's the series you're mentioning ..

The M*A*S*H series finale was a HUGE event in a time when there were only three major networks, PBS, and a couple of locals in each city. That's one reason it will never be surpassed.

On a side note, I watch M*A*S*H on one of my locals in the morning as I get ready for work and it's still just as funny and sometimes heartbreaking ("Abyssinia, Henry" still makes me cry) as it was during its initial run. I can't imagine ever wanting to watch The Walking Dead reruns while getting ready for work.

Original poster said the season finale of Walking Dead even broke the MASH record for most watched show. The super bowl IS a season finale to that season of football, just as the article originally posted was referring to.

I don't see the word MASH in there. Nor do I see "in TV history". It says "...the largest live audience for a finale in series history" As in the most viewers ever for a season finale of The Walking Dead.

You quoted the wrong threads. The other one says the "series AND SEASON finale of MASH".

A sporting event is apples and oranges to a TV series.

Some of you are arguing apples over oranges.

IF I said this apple was the best apple ever... it is useless to come in and say oranges are better. That's not the comparison... the comparison was to all apples that came before.

Now, IF I said this apple was the best fruit ever... then you can debate apples and oranges.

The statement was only made relative to ALL the Walking Dead season finales thus far... that's it. Not all other dramas, comedies, sporting events, or even TV shows. Just that this got the highest rating of any Walking Dead season finale thus far. That's it. It's not even a debate. It either is or it isn't, by the numbers.

Well when reading the original quote, I didn't think it specified Walking Dead finales. The quote said largest audience for a finale in series history. I took that to be "a" series history. You assumed "the" series history. Series is not written as possessive (series') so it makes the sentence even more inclusive of other shows. The writer's at fault for a vague sentence.

So will this thread also be used for "Fear the Walking Dead"? Hopefully it's gets some great ratings too and has very high ratings for it's first season finale.

It has its own thread, as already quoted. Figured it would be best since they are only related in the universe and Fear the walking dead takes place well before the walking dead.

The sentence may be less than vigorous but no one with the most casual knowledge of the state of television would think that "largest audience for a finale in series history" means all of television history ever. Seriously.

Well seriously, I don't study the statistics, so I couldn't make the judgement that how I read the statement was far fetched. I just disinterestedly read the arguments going back and forth until the quote was reposted and could see where the misinterpretation began.
