But that Tower is in Boston, isn't it? so his house should be near. (and if I was Karen I would look for him in his house), the skitters took him there (by ship or mech), now walking back to Charleston will be a challenge

Maybe he'll find a fully gassed up, working vehicle like Pope did.

I haven't posted here in A LONG TIME, but I have to say this past Sunday's episode had some issues for me, as well, both inside the forced dreams and even AFTER.

First, even if he didn't realize many of the folks in his forced dream at the University were people he didn't meet in real life until after the invasion (such as Pope -- ESPECIALLY Pope!), it would seem he might still cue in on some things at his "home" that just seemed WAY OFF for Boston...

For instance, the big plant just beside his steps, near the top -- the one with the funny leaves -- I'm pretty sure that's a Fatsia japonica. That's BARELY hardy here where I live in Climate Zone 7b (it's really more like 8a, but they still officially call this 7b -- the plant is listed as hardy from 8-10). And there were other plants outside the "home," along the streets, that were all green and some looked semi-tropical, more like Charleston (or maybe Jacksonville -- I lived there briefly and have spent enough time in Charleston to know the area). At any rate, almost NONE of the plants in Boston should have been green on Dec. 14, which was the supposed date.

I couldn't tell at the end of the show when he went back to the house if the "Fatsia" was there or not, as it was dark and the house was now in the ruins it should be, BUT, either way, I can't understand WHY the Espheni would move him 800 miles up the coast for interrogations -- especially when we know Karen had been right there in the greater Charleston area. His escape also seemed a bit too easy.

That leads me to believe he must still be in yet another layer of dream, one that's finally convincing enough that he'll think he's free, maybe. Previews for the next couple episodes appear to imply they'll have to trust a possibly compromised Tom again... What if it's not the Third Mass. and Charleston trusting him, at all, but him finally giving away secret plans to the Espheni in a dream they've finally made real enough for him to believe?

I sure hope they haven't jumped the shark on this one... If they try to convince us this dude walks from Boston to Charleston in anything less than weeks (even in a dream)... well, that'll just be sad.

And other couple the daughter is in her forties and the Mom is in her sixties. they also get mistaken for sisters because her mom looks like she is in her thirties or forties even though she is in her mid sixties.

In the last one it's mother, daughter, and grand daughter. You would almost think they were all twins. Although in this situtation it's obvious there are age differences but no one can ever guess that one in in their mid sixties, the other is her forties and the grand daughter is 20.

I'm going to have to accept your story about the "mistaken for sisters". I've seen some that come pretty close but a mom will always act like a mom and there is no mistaking "youth" especially with young women. I have an 18 year old daughter so maybe I'm immune? tongue.gif

Regarding the show, I hope they don't drag out the "dream" for too long a period if indeed he's still dreaming.

All I thought about at the end was - "he has a long walk from Boston to Charleston" (as someone said earlier).....and where did he get the pistol?

I liked the episode. At least the writing didn't seem 'lazy' as people are always complaining about. I thought dream within a dream was a nice touch smile.gif

Well, heck, if he can do that, why not just skip on down to Logan International and "Fly United," or sumpthin'??? tongue.gif

Seriously, though, unless the writers come up with something really tricky to explain the ending of last week's episode, I see no way he's not still dreaming, or something.

I also liked it. Nice to see some of the cast cleaned up for a change.
I don't really see it as a "money saver" episodes- all new sets were needed for several scenes.

According to next weeks teaser ( Not that I take those things with a grain of salt with all the editing , deceiving ,and all) next weeks epi, Karen is trying to convince Tom that the Bulb heads/ Couchi? aren't what they crack up to be..
So now the Skitters are going to use that ploy? I don't know but way earlier would have been more affective before having a building size gun pointing at your direction, nothing scream desperate than saying your new friends have a doggy back ground.

Also anyone else experience drop out during last nights showing?

I did. I had a lot of drop out last night. I think it was my dish network. I was flipping between this and a concert and it was dropping out along with other channels.

I did not experience any drop outs, however my PQ bordered on black and white for some reason .. FS generally has a muted color pallet but last night it was almost colorless .. weird ..

I also wondered about the giant ray run or whatever it is .. when we saw it being made, it looked huge .. yet last night on the preview it looked like they were hauling it on a semi-truck bed .. ??

And Tom sails back to Charleston ..

Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

I think that many posters here would be happier if they watched the show the producers are actually making, rather than the one you're apparently wishing for. Falling Skies is a family drama in a science-fiction context. If you don't want to watch a family drama, you will not enjoy this show.

I very much enjoyed this episode. The novelty factor was fun. The ways in which Tom's subconscious cast people from his real life in the roles of his old life were interesting, not because it was anything original but because it was interesting to see how Tom perceives various characters' personalities. Pope as a verbose philosophy professor? Perfect!

That his sons were shown as older than they would have been was unavoidable, but it was a clever move to justify it by portraying his wife as much younger than she would have been. His sons live in his mind as the people they've become, but his wife will always be the beautiful young woman he fell in love with.

I would never deny that Falling Skies falls prey to many of the same failings that other low-budget sf shows do. But its core is the story of Tom and his sons dealing with the changed world, and if you don't care about that story, the show will continue to disappoint.

Huh? The dream within a dream was the laziest part of the writing for that episode. The first thing I did when it was obviously a dream episode was turn to my wife and say "I bet at some point, it appears that he wakes up, only he didn't". Because that's possibly the biggest cliche' in all of sci-fi television, and the writers for Falling Skies never met a cliche' they didn't love.

RD .. while I do know it's a family drama, I appreciate you pointing out the nuances .. I honestly had not even considered those .. if the writers intended it to be that way, then kudos to them ..

I read that as "a drama about a family" not a drama for the family.

The former I would accept (even though it's the show's Achilles Heel) but not the latter.

Well, just like with The Walking Dead, i could care less about these shows being drama's about family and people interacting with each other.

I watch Falling Skies for a sci-fi war against aliens, just like i watch Walkind Dead for a war against Zombies.

Period.

In either show, the respective wars have no huge amount of action .. either alien or walker .. both are more drama and interaction ..

And there's nothing wrong with that. But in formal criticism (which I recognize that this forum isn't), recognition of artist's intent is an important and necessary step in evaluating the success or failure of a work. I was pointing out that a lot of the FS-bashing that goes on here might be less one-sided if there was a better understanding (and acceptance!) of what the producers seem to be trying to do.

I, too, wish for an alien-invasion series that felt more like a Niven/Pournelle novel. And I think we don't get one because TV people don't believe in their audience enough to give them anything really new that would require a viewer's full engagement. But series TV has its own requirements, open-endedness and character-centrism being chief among them. An episode like this last one is a perfect example of what you get in a series that you don't get in a movie or a mini-series. And in order to enjoy it, the viewer needs to be on board with it being a series, where getting to the end is considered "failure."

It has been a couple years now since Walking Dead has been a show about a war againsat zombies, it is now a show about humans at war with humans.

My only question is how the next episode will end. I'm guessing the cliffhanger will be either a) uncovering the weapon b) firing the weapon or c) finding Anne and Lexi, who are now Karen's minions.

Ok, so now what -- more of the same?

Really quite a disappointing finale. Looks like the Volm are not the big bad we were expecting, and big woop Karen is dead, they'll just replace her with more of the same. The Lexie thing has been done any number of times before, I guess they just didn't want to deal with a baby on the set. Creative writing this isn't.
