Yeah, no doubt.

People seem to forget that most of the viewership has no idea what most of these places actually look like, which is why Vancouver can pretend to be them.

What actually trips me up is backlot shots. It's gotten to the point where I can tell not only that it's a backlot shot, but I can tell the difference between Universal, Warner and Paramount.

Well, I suppose that goes for the Eiffel Tower and the Coliseum of Rome too, and I wouldn't try to play those locations as the US either.

Except most people have seen those - perhaps not in person, but most of us have seen them.

Before I read the post in this thread, I hadn't even heard of the location mentioned.

Having said that, though, would most people be able to tell the difference between the Roman Coliseum and some of the other Coliseums Rome built around the world? Other than being in varying levels of decay, they all are the same design. For example, the Arles Ampitheatre in France could likely stand in for the Coliseum in Rome and most people wouldn't know the difference.

However, few people would mistake something like the Eiffel Tower as anything other than the Eiffel Tower.

Yeah that's not a fair comparison. A garden design based on Chinese culture is not even close to being in the same sphere of identification as iconic, historical and unique landmarks you can see from miles away.

Yeah, but they'd have to get really tricky with the angles to make people think that's actually France...
