Agreed. With all the tornadoes and their subsequent destruction it would have been nice to see them channel 100 percent of Idol Gives Back into domestic endeavors.

I heard that this event will happen "every-other-season" instead of every season. So, it should be back next time.

Longevity and pop music rarely go hand in hand. He will be around for a while. Those young voters may very well remain fans. The whole pop music thing is hard to predict. Too many variables and timing/luck play a large part. I am still pretty impressed that the Idol singers perform as well as they do. Most pop stars, with obvious exceptions, don't sound that great live. Sure you can find better singers than Scotty/Lauren. You can say that about virtually any singer out there. Same goes for musicians.

Scotty McCreery's "I Love You This Big debuted at No. 32 on Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Hot Country Songs chart, making it the highest debut for a new artist's first single since Jan. 20, 1990, according to Billboard. The song also hit No. 1 on iTunes.

'I am humbled and shocked by this news,' the country singer said in a statement. 'I can't tell you what it means to me to be on the same charts as my musical heroes. I want to thank my fans and especially country radio for their support.' "

I'd wager that most "new" artists weren't pimped on national TV for 5 months prior to their first single being released.

That debut actually seems a bit low from what I had expected.

Here is a good article discussing (and showing music videos of) the past Idol winners' Coronation songs.

Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson will be back for season 11 of 'Idol'By Kate Ward, EW.com
June 30, 2011 10:46 a.m. EDT

Fox confirms that Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson are set to return to "American Idol" for season 11.

This information was expected as Tyler signed on for multiple seasons

Lopez, however, has recently stated she's "on the fence" regarding her "Idol" return

(EW.com) -- Get ready for another "beautiful" season of "American Idol": Fox confirmed to EW that rocker Steven Tyler and "dawg" Randy Jackson are indeed set to return to the judges' table for season 11 of the popular Fox reality series.

This information was expected (as Tyler signed on for multiple seasons), and is somewhat consistent with Jackson's claim on "Lopez Tonight" in May that all three judges would return to "Idol."

Jennifer Lopez, however, has recently stated she's "on the fence" regarding her "Idol" return, thanks in part to her work with her new reality project, "Q'Viva."

So let's congratulate Randy and Steven with two copies of a thesaurus.

So pretty much the only hope for the show is if JLo decides not to come back and they find someone who's actually willing to judge the contestants. I like Steven Tyler a lot, but he doesnt belong on the show.

Best cheerleader, sure. Best judge? He'd have to actually judge to be considered for that honor.

I think your judging of the judges is about as good as Stephen Tyler's judging of the contestants.

I stopped watching this season because the judges became cheerleaders, except for Randy Jackson who is unable to express anything he thinks. There were some terrible performances that left me shaking my head but the judges pretended they were completely flawless. Week after week of this made me feel I was watching some kind of brainwashing experiment.

I appreciated the less cruel and more constructive criticism during the auditions but there was very little constructive criticism during the real competition. Most of the time you could have taken anything a judge said and applied it to any performance.

NOW: my post on AVS Forum.
NEXT: someone else's post on AVS Forum.

Yeah, I think when it hit me that it was a complete joke was when Scotty did the completely ridiculous "Looky there, looky there, looky there, looky there" performance that me and my family laughed hysterically through and I waited for the judges to rip it apart only to have not ONE NEGATIVE COMMENT about it. It was over.

Jennifer Lopez Heads Back to the 'Idol' Panel for Another Year

Series executive producer Nigel Lythgoe confirmed Lopez's return on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Wednesday morning. During a phone call to the show, Lythgoe settled the speculation, confirming, "I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of American Idol' is back for the next season.

Seacrest later noted on his Twitter account that auditions with all three judges would begin "in a couple of weeks."

While Lythgoe was the first person to make Lopez's return official, TheWrap reported last week that the "Love" singer had re-upped as a judge for the series for a princess-ly sum of just over $20 million -- a significant pay raise over the $12 million that she'd previously taken in.

But while Lopez might be locked back in, there may be trouble brewing with co-judge Steven Tyler. The Aerosmith frontman -- who signed on for two seasons last year -- is reportedly grousing over his relatively skimpy paycheck now, and is angling for a similar raise.

Steven Tyler should not be paid at all for the "judging" he does. Just bring in a new guest cheerleader every week.

Seriously, you could rotate the entire judging panel each week and it wouldnt change a thing at this point. All 3 of them are pretty useless as judges.

I don't believe for a second that Lopez is making 20 million per season (the ONLY source on that is The Wrap). Just think about it-the biggest actress going in a huge budget movie would only make 20 million. And that is because that actress can open a movie. There has been no proof at all that Lopez was responsible for any of the ratings. In fact, the RATINGS WERE DOWN from the previous season. I would credit any ratings success last year to production changes (some definite improvements there, especially for the results shows), and also duping people once again at the beginning of the season to think that it was going to be a great singing cast. Instead the singers left at the end turned out to be no better than the awful year before.
