Strippers probably have the flexibility, so I better not take the bet.

Now, the ommision these days of all but the drivers door keyhole is a travesty .. biggrin.gif

Let me tell you a story about a car called the Bricklin. The Bricklin had electric gull-wing doors and no manual latch. And it was a new enough car that the hood release was in the cockpit and the hood release was designed to not be able to be reached from under the car to minimize thefts. So, when your battery went dead in the Bricklin, you were completely locked out of the car and couldn't even open the hood to hook up a charger or jump start the car.

Then around '85 or so, Corvette was the first marque in the GM stable to add a resistor to the key as a security measure. A friend of mine owned one of these cars the first year it came out and he'd have the car for a couple of weeks and then it would refuse to start. Then the dealership would have the car for a couple of weeks, do some unspecified futzing around with it and then give it back to him. (wash, rinse, repeat) After several months of this, GM finally flew a engineer from Dearborn to Phoenix and they took his car out to the GM proving grounds east of Phoenix (which GM sold off to several years ago). After about a month or so he finally got the car back and it finally was "fixed". But they wouldn't really say what they did, so for all we know, they just disabled the security feature.

Then there's the Aston Martin DB9, a car whose cost is over six digits, and has so much electronics crap in it that if it sits for more than a couple of days it completely drains the battery. The problem is so bad that Aston Martin had to put charging posts on the car to make it as easy as possible to hook up a trickle charger to the car every night.

I could go on forever about stupid "feature" failures, so imagining a scenario where the silly "kick" feature fails in a way that makes the hatch completely impossible to open even if a mechanical release is present is pretty easy from my perspective. wink.gif

We used to call that "babyxxit yellow"--first seen on Porsches in the early 70s and widely copied. The wankel Mazdas of the early 70s were killed off due to "poor fuel economy" but they got better mileage than anything that could keep up with them.

TV Notes
'The Amazing Race': New cast (including relatives of John Wayne and Daniel Boone) and twist revealed!
By Dalton Ross, EW.com's 'Inside TV' Blog - Jan. 23, 2012

Sitcom star Lisa Whelchel and former baseball MVP Jeff Kent may not be appearing, but The Amazing Race will trot out a few semi-celebrities of its own when the 22nd season of the reality hit premieres Feb. 17 on CBS. And the teams will have a new twist to contend with at the very start.

Headlining the cast are Jennifer Kuhle and Caroline Cutbirth of the country band Stealing Angels. Kuhle is the granddaughter of John Wayne while Cutbirth is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone. They will be competing against former NHL player Bates Battaglia and his brother Anthony, as well as YouTube channel hosts Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena. Also among the 11 new teams of two competing is a pair of twin doctors, two roller derby moms, and a father and son who both have survived cancer. (The full cast list is below.)

Teams this season will travel over 30,000 miles through nine countries on five different continents. Along the way they will, according to CBS, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
“skydive from 10,000 feet in Bora Bora, participate in a Shemozzle race in New Zealand, hunt for scorpions with the Bushmen of Botswana and scale the treacherous north face of the Eiger Mountain in Switzerland.”

They also will have a new twist thrown at them. While in the past the first team to arrive at the initial Pit Stop has earned an Express Pass that allows them to skip any task of their choosing, the team that arrives before all others at this season’s first Pit Stop will receive two Express Passes — one to keep for themselves and another one that must be given to another team of their choosing before the end of the fourth leg. It has the power of making one other team very happy, and several others unhappy over not receiving it.

Here’s the full cast of season 22 of ‘The Amazing Race.’ Also make sure to check out our photo gallery of all the teams. And for more reality ramblings, follow me on Twitter @DaltonRoss.

Man, I guess the prohibition against "alpha male" teams is a thing of the past -- professional hockey players and firefighters? Sheesh.

Hate to say it, but that was my first thought when I looked at the pics.

Unless it's one of the female teams, then there is probably only one member on a team.

I assumed it was the firefighters.

But being a David Cronenburg fan, it was the twin gynecologists that stood out to me and made me think of the film Dead Ringers
as the 'alternative lifestyle' couple:

I guess we better not get attached to any of the teams at this point since CBS is running a promo that says that "three teams will quit" .

Anyway, I'd be a little surprised if they actually eliminate three teams on the first episode since it would really screw up the schedule. I'm guessing they must have some obscure rule which has never been used before for this situation.

BTW, season premier is this Sunday, remember to set your DVRs.

Episode is not done airing in East/Central, just watching the beginning now. Glaringly obvious the $2M if you win the first and final leg gimmick is gone. And it's still a $1M prize.

Glad they got rid of that thing.

So far, I'm cheering for 3 teams:

1. Team Asian
2. Team OBGYN
3. Team YouTube

I really want to see gone:
1. Team Firefighter
2. Team Newlywed

As I watching it, I thought it was dumb that all 3 of those teams decided to take the 4 hour penalty at the same time. I know those guys got cocky and those girls were ready to give up, 4 hour penalties are quite severe. If you are one of those 3 teams and see that 2 might take 4 hour penalties, even thought you wanna give up you gotta like your chances to find the envelope in the next 2-3 hours and then cruise on to an easy non-elimination for you.

Not saying it was slam dunk stupid for not even one team to stay, just saying as I watching it I figured one team would stay and take their chances.

If 1 team was going to stay, the other 2 wouldn't have done it. Think they made that clear when they showed them making a "blood pact".

Talk about false advertising with that 3 teams quitting thing. Yeah, I know, technically they did quit (a challenge), but they made you believe that 3 teams quit the race altogether.

I'm guessing the token gay is that guy on the internet fad team. I can't see any others.
Speaking of them, God I want them gone quick. They are already annoying the crap out of me. mad.gif
