The contestants were enclosed in a literal "protective bubble" from the waist up, and had knee pads. From the show, it appeared as if the contestants were very well protected from bumps and falls, but it appears that Jamal was hurt due to what appears to be a twisting of his knee beyond its limits. This kind of injury could not be protected against, and reminded me more of "Fear Factor" than The Amazing Race. But overall, this was a very fun episode, and hope to see more challenges like this rather than 'make the hotel bed" challenges.

Seemed like the wrong time during the memorization challenge for Jamal to break out a borderline offensive impression of Billy Connolly...

So I yelled at the screen, "Size 9 or 11, not 10 you idiot!!" I'm just glad Brenchel was able to recover and finish third. Obviously, I'm not a Brenchel hater like many others are. In fact, at this point in the game, I'm kinda pulling for them. However, Rachel and Brendon BOTH need to start reading the fricking clue to prevent near tragedies like the gas pump fiasco earlier this season and the boot screw-up last night.

Alright. I'm calling Fix based on the Goalie challenge. Were the goalies instructed to let a couple scores through after a certain time had elapsed? I noticed the Afghanimals scored one goal where the goalie just stood there. I figured it was because he got faked out. But then the country girls' goalie just stood there for 2 of their shots that whizzed by him at 1 mph. He was so tall, he just had to lay down on one side or the other and he would have stopped the ball.

Definitely. That happens on challenges that are difficult or require a lot of work. Even the Welsh poem challenge was dummed down for the stragglers. With editing, we don't see the amount of time. But I'd bet after 30 minutes, it's time to start letting up a little so the racers can move on. Otherwise, you get more instances like the famous hay rolling from season 6 or the flaming arrows from season 10.

I actually missed the bulk of the soccer challenge but the Welsh Poem was one where I thought, whichever Afghanimal was reciting it, wasn't pronouncing that "II" sound correctly, or at least not held to the standard of the other contestants. But he did offer a lot of inflection with his recital, whereas, the son (totally blanking on names right now for some reason), was kicked back for having too little emotion behind his recital. I thought that was kind of a crock. You learn to recite a poem in a foreign language in 30 minutes and you don't even know what it's saying and you are held accountable for the emotion? Yeah, that was a little weird to me.

I've long felt the show has "fixes" in but not necessarily in a dishonest way if that makes sense. I do think they make sure each team faces challenge that's specifically designed to pit them against their biggest fear kind of thing based on a personality/psych test taken in advance. That's not really a fix though. But I do think they set up a bad cab driver at time but not so a specific team gets that cab, just random. I think the alternate flights that get delays are fixed but again, I believe it's just setting up the flight that way, not any specific team taking that flight. Years ago, there was stolen backpack that I thought was totally fixed, so yeah, I think there are things the producers put in play to steer the show.

I had to question the challenge the Brenchels did. I mean come on, do they really have a thing were people fill a rubber boot with water and throw it?

The soccer challenge was mostly about the players being able to strike the ball cleanly and getting some velocity but still hitting anything but the center of the goal.

The first few kicks, several players made contact with the bottom of their shoes rather than the side by the big toe.

It looks like the Afghans lost it on the road, finding that Bosworth castle.

And the country singers missed winning the leg because they guessed wrong on the direction to the pit stop.

So glad they are eliminated, they annoyed me. I don't really care who wins this now, once the Cowboys were out, I had no one to cheer for.

Amazing Race moving to Fridays this fall. Good thing about this is that football won't push the starting time back anymore.

Farewell, you crazy Afghanimals! You fought (raced) valiantly in this race, and deserve to get this far, and certainly would have loved to see you go further. The country singers have been propped up beyond any reason this season, and don't belong in the final three. I hope they win the whole thing so that the showrunners would get the deserved backlash for giving these weaklings two non-eliminations and the ridiculous pass in the soccer penalty challenge. That "professional soccer goalie" should just climb up to the stadium roof and jump off in embarrassment for letting the girls' kicks into the goal. rolleyes.gif

Good for the Brenchels to have come in third after yet another screwup that would have sent many other teams packing. They need to take a fricking minute to read and "get the clue"! The finale seems to be a cool run to the finish. I will miss the show after next week. redface.gif

^^^ That used to be true (it's still true for Saturday, the night that's 100% burn off for failed shows and repeats) but, since flat is the new up, Fridays have kind-of thrived over the past couple of years with quality scripted ("Blue Bloods," "Grimm," "Hannibal"), news magazines ("Dateline," "20/20") and unscripted programming ("Shark Tank," "Undercover Boss") that take advantage of the night's lowered expectations. Yes, being moved to Fridays means "TAR" is no longer the hot show it once was (as proven by the really low ratings this past season) but because CBS is patient with its shows it means "TAR" has to do just OK or better than expected numbers and it could last for a few more seasons. I for one look forward to having a "TAR"-"Shark Tank" two-hour reality block on Friday nights worth tuning in. smile.gif

This is great, the constant delays because of football can get annoying and really screws up my recordings of other shows.
