Well they were smartphones. At least it sure looked that way. They could have disabled the radios though so that they could only be used for photos (and apps, I suppose) though. Can't imagine they would provide smartphone data access to the contestants now.

They have never mentioned that again or made any comments so I don't think so, otherwise they would of said something instead of assuming people would remember years later because that would make it more strategic of a play/choice.

That had to be one of the most uneven detours in the race history. One somewhere from probably at least 30 minutes to many hours and the other was a minute.

both detours in both episodes seemed pretty uneven but whatev.

Selfie cam causes a team to miss the train. AWESOME. That'll teach'em!

Holding the fort on old games that play the same as the new ones, minus the $400 price tag.

This is going to be annoying if it's something they feel the need to shove down our throats all season. Only 2 episodes in and I'm already sick of it.

Instead of "blind dates", which is still interesting in it's own way, I would have been more intrigued in seeing a professional matchmaker pairing up the new couples. It would be interesting to see how supposedly "objectively compatible" brand new couples would fair against established couples who came together by other more typical means (met at a bar, introduced by a friend, workplace or other proximate random human encounters, etc.).

The couple that was voted out this week just might be the most laid back competitors I can ever remember in the history of this series. Likeable people, but not nearly competitive enough for a competition like this.

PS: hope she finally gets her ring from Mr. "Someday".

I'm inclined to believe they were paired up by professional matchmakers... JMHO

Yep, personally, I just don't get it .. I mean it's a TV show, what's the point of "selfies" .. ?? The producers think it's going to appeal to a younger demographic .. ?? A Reality Show, to me, is one, long, filmed "selfie" ..

I look at it as a way for the racers to document the show. They can't bring cameras or cell phones normally so it's nice to see they get to have memories of their journey other than what is edited and aired on TV...

Strategic selfies could come in handy if there's a memory challenge near the end of the race...

Perhaps so. But I would think they'd have mentioned this if that were the case, instead of labeling these pairings as mere, "blind dates". Which suggests only a most rudimentary type of pairing, covering only a few general compatibility points (age, education level & relative attractiveness) and not the type of in-depth pairing a matchmaker would provide.

Very good point! Let's see if they are allowed to reference the phones then or if they thought about doing it....

What's next, they decide to have a live version of TAR so the racers can Tweet while they are running?

That's all well and good, but do they have to keep showing them? Who the hell cares about that crap? I'm watching the show to watch them race, not take silly pictures.

If this ends up being the case, I myself will be sorely disappointed and I feel safe in saying most all Racers from day one that made it to the end would be as well ..

Although the term "selfie" is a relatively new term, the ability to take a photo of yourself has been around for a long long time ..

I wasn't suggesting that it was a good thing. Personally I think the whole selfie thing (on Amazing Race and otherwise) is stupid. And I will give Lord_Zath due credit for my comment.. when I saw his comment on "memories of the journey" I instantly had the thought of cheating, considering that they almost always have a "memory test" near the end . . .

Samsung FINALLY replaced the panel in my TV..
It took them seven months, but finally they stepped up to the plate.
THIS
is what I had to live with for the past seven months..

It's a shame that in the end TCU's playoff chances all came down to this . . .

Yeah I was not thinking about the usual end memory challenge, just more about reflecting on the experience 5 years later. I just finished watching season 1, and think about how nice it would be for Frank and Margarite to have been able to share their pictures from the Race with their daughter who is now probably old enough to understand what her parents did and is taking selfies herself.

I will be sorely disappointed if the last challenge integrates selfies in some way. Just wait - Ford's going to release a new vehicle that takes selfies as you drive. "Take a selfie from each seat in the vehicle before you can continue the Race."
