I don't think it's ever won it's time slot, but what you posted at least shows some good news. Terra Nova ratings went up. Your link shows 7.2 million viewers with a 2.2 rating. The previous week had 6.5 million viewers and a 2.1 rating. It's not much but it's always better to go up a little than go down a little.

Yep. Little gains every week are considered a good sign for "bubble" shows. Let's hope the trend continues.

Who else wanted a pteradactyl to swoop down and grab and eat the baby dino right after the little girl let it go? THAT would have been awesome.

I was waiting to see "mama" sniff it, smell the human on it, and step on it.

So true. That just wouldn't be very "family" of them.
Is there a show tonight? I remember that some of my shows have this week off, but don't recall if this was one of them.

'Terra Nova' fights against extinction
By Joe Flint, Los Angeles Times' 'Company Town' Blog - December 6th, 2011

Are dinosaurs about to go extinct for a second time?

Fox's "Terra Nova," an expensive drama about a family that travels from the year 2149 to prehistoric times to try to save Earth, is fighting to survive past its freshman season. Because the show is costly and takes a long time to produce, Fox ordered only 13 episodes, the last of which will air on Dec. 19.

Now 20th Century Fox Television, the production studio that makes "Terra Nova" for the Fox network, is starting to lobby for a year two.

On the surface, the ratings for "Terra Nova" are not awful. It is averaging almost 10 million viewers in its Monday 8 p.m. time slot, and it is the No. 1 new drama among male viewers.

However, the pilot of "Terra Nova" alone cost about $15 million, and the show is one of the most expensive in history, so it may be hard Fox to justify a second year without higher ratings. The studio will likely try to make the argument that "Terra Nova" has done well in international sales, but that may not be enough to justify the financial risks of a second season.

Part of the challenge all along for "Terra Nova" was that it was trying to be a show that could appeal to families and kids in a time when the audience is very fragmented. A Monday night time slot probably didn't help it much. Sunday would have been a better fit for "Terra Nova," where it would have benefited from having NFL football as a lead-in and a better chance to grab families.

However, Fox has turned its Sunday night over to animation programming. "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" still deliver, but a case could be made that the other shows Fox has tried that night ("The Cleveland Show," "Bob's Burgers" and "Alan Gregory") are just riding the coattails of those two shows.

Going forward, Fox executives may have to decide whether they need to rethink their Sunday strategy if they want to try big-tent shows such as "Terra Nova."

Although we enjoy the show, the above article makes me wonder where all that money is going .. I know building sets, talent and what not are not cheap .. but billing it as one of the most expensive TV shows in history .. ??

They film it on location in New Zealand, I believe. And to read some of the reports about the torrential rains they had there during production, it sounds like of like a junior version of Coppola's Apocalypse Now ordeal at times.

The linked article/slideshow pegs TN's pilot at closer to $20 mil., maiking it the costliest pilot in TV history. Next most pricey debut episode? Boardwalk Empire @ an estimated $18 mil. LOST, FRINGE, PAN AM, GAME OF THRONES & the 2000 reboot of THE FUGITIVE (?) round out the list.

And yet it never rains on Terra Nova... all that lush vegetation... rivers... waterfalls... but nary a drop of rain to be seen... just how does that work?

You know, rain was apparently utilized in Jurrasic Park (the nighttime T-Rex sequence) in part to hide some of the seams in the FX. Perhaps such a move on TN could give viewers more/better dino action?

So, what are you saying? That they should film in the rain simply to show that it did in fact rain 85 million years ago? We - the audience - can't make that assumption given that there is indeed lush vegetation and running rivers there?

I've read some "interesting" critiques of the show on this thread, but that one may take the cake.

Well, actually, yes! Not all the time, mind you, but at least occasionally.

I mean, come on. If a series were set in, say, London, or Seattle, and all the exterior shots featured bright, sunny days, would you or would you not think that detracted from the realism, just a little?

I’m saying from the scenery it looks like they should have a lot of rain there, and so once in a while, they ought to show that.

And obviously, that’s not the worst thing I can say about the show, but it is a nit.

As often discussed, it's difficult to film rain; which is why scenes can still be shot without breaking continuity even when it unexpectedly starts raining. The show would have to create a torrential storm to make it look convincing and I think the FX budget is already stretched to the limit based on what we've seen. By the end of the season the actors might have to say "pew pew pew" when firing their sonic guns to keep costs down and save some money for Fox.

That is how I once envisioned Monty Python handling laser gun FX had they done a sci-fi project.

I'm fully expecting a few spliced in shots from Plan 9 From Outer Space. First a shot of Taylor staring menacingly in one direction and then the Plan 9 monster clumsily fleeing in mock terror. I doubt many would notice the difference.

It is unfortunate that those who have already tuned out are going to miss the final three episodes as they play out over the next two Mondays.

I'm sure that there will be those who will find something wrong with Monday's episode.

If you are interested in seeing the photos that Fox released for the series, head on over to my Terra Nova web page. While you can "see" them at the FoxFlash press site, at least I have them at a decent size for viewing.

I doubt that the final three episodes will be enough to get Fox to renew the series for another season. I sure hope they do, as I want to see more of this show.

Interesting that after tonight's episode they referred to next weeks episode as the "finale" and not the "season finale". They also said "see how it all ends.". Has there been an announcement about this being cancelled?

Not that I've seen. Guess that kindof indicates the end is near.

I hope they release this season on 1080p. 20th Century Fox is usually good at releasing TV shows on Blu-ray, unlike the idiots at ABC Productions and CBS Studios. While 720p is OK, 1080p is better.

I was actually hoping they wouldn't be able to go both ways, ruins some aspects of the show for me. Will see how this all plays out soon.
