BTW, there are two versions of the movie: 1:40 without talking heads (I believe this is the director's preferred version and mine too) and 2:40 with talking heads. Talking heads ruin the magic.

Showtimes where I'm going are listed as 7:00 and 9:30, so that makes it the 1:40 version.

I guess this is a well-known info, but yesterday I watched a BBC feed of F1, haven't watched these for a while. During pre-race it looks like they use at least two different cameras, one is a traditional one, with wide angle. The other seems to be a "cine" camera, these are becoming popular now (I don't think that BBC uses DSLRs). The closeups look different, more personal if you will, with a person talking properly focused, but background blurred. Interesting development by BBC.

I know that closeups help making background blurry, but I think that in this case it was more blurry than what could achieved with a regular TV camera.

I noticed this immediately.
The horizontal stretching (slight) was annoying.
Looked liked a non 16x9 AR was used.

What a great broadcast from Singapore.

The race, under the lights, is just fantastic to watch.
In HD, the reflection off the race cars is something to behold.
One of my favorite races of the year.

So far, at least, the F1 broadcasts this year have been competent (in terms of PQ).
Which is more than I can say for the clusterf*ck known as the ALMS broadcasts.
NOT Live???
Races NOT in their entirety???
Simply put, the broadcasts are little more than Sports Center recaps!
Sheesh, who the heck would agree to those terms with ESPN?
Man...somebody should get fired.

Yeah agree, although you can watch the full race on the ALMS site.

Yup, agree about ALMS. Their media package is a big joke. Endurance sports car racing is now 90 mins.

My wife and I have been to 13 ALMS races over the past 5 years and we are pissed about the lack of real TV coverage.

The internet broadcast (also on XBox Live) is fraught with problems. Many people cannot access ESPN3 (required, even if accessed from the ALMS site in the U.S.), and the stream has frequent dropouts and artifacts, etc.

I thought all endurance races were 90 minutes...

Seriously though, I can't see how they can survive the current 3 year contract (reportedly) with ESPN using this format.
I'll bet there is going to be a lot of raised voices behind closed doors this winter from sponsors with the ALMS Powers-That-Be.

You are confusing that with the maximum elapsed time before the Jaguar RSRs break and withdraw from competition.

For one, we're talking about a car maker that won't even sell you a car with a proper transmission anymore. Even their RS has a slushbox.

** There are NO SPOILERS in my post***, so it's safe to scroll down and read if you haven't seen the India race yet.

If anyone recorded the India Grand Prix in the middle of the night on their DVR or Tivo etc and have not watched the race yet, you need to see if your DVR caught the whole race or just the first hour.

Speed Channel apparently had some sort of scheduling error and my HD Tivo recorded only the first hour of the race. It also happened on my TWC 8300HD DVR as well, and it also happened on my buddy's DirecTV DVR. We were going to go watch the recording at my friend's house later this morning so i'm glad i checked to see if my Tivo caught the race as it revealed the shortened recording length, and i was able to call my friend and have him check his recording length - and sure enough he only got the first hour. So we canceled our morning F1 party and set up a new recording for the afternoon re-broadcast.

On Speedchannel dot com's schedule, it shows the race in a one hour time slot, then in the next 1.5 hour time slot is shows "Formula One, Continued". Our Tivos and DVRs didn't pick up this 2nd segment. I've never seen this happen before.

So if anyone reads this in time, the race will be re-broadcast today at 12:00 Noon Pacific Time (3:00 pm Eastern). Tivo guide shows another re-broadcast is scheduled for Friday November 4th at 9:00 am PST (Noon EST) if you don't catch the first one.

Was India shot in HD? If it was, is was the most mediocre HD I've seen this season. It looked more like the widescreen garbage that Bernie was feeding us last season.

edit- I agree with oink. The air was almost foggy looking at times.

It reminded me of L.A. during the late 60's.
As God as my witness, at times 50 yards distance was the most one could see clearly.
It would get so bad (especially during the summer), we kids had to come in by the early afternoon and lay down on our beds due to shortness of breath.

I didn't notice this issue with my recording on Comcast, but I always set any sports broadcasts to record an extra 2 hours in case of weather delays and such anyway.

I was there, it was very smoggy and dusty. The cameras made it look better than it was.

Watched qualifying this morning and the Yaz Marina circuit looks incredible on SpeedHD.
Starting in daylight and finishing at night makes for a fantastic visual feast.

I don't deny the air pollution and smoggy skies in India, but the geniuses who scheduled an F1 race in late October, early November in India should have their heads examined. Delhi, and most of northern India gets as foggy as San Francisco does in winter. Apart from the visibility and air quality issues, the track itself is the worst piece of garbage I've seen on an F1 map. Dirty, dingy and barren, with a mental paint scheme that made no aesthetic or design sense. Herman Tilka should be ashamed to have his name associated with this shoddy execution.

Yas Marina on the other hand is the most awesome race track I've ever seen.

No, not so much fog, but smog. The race was the weekend after Diwali(sp), and they shoot of tons of crackers (fireworks to us), so there was tons of smoke from those still in the air, in addition the normal pollution of the area.

Got it.
Never been to India, always wanted to; its history and culture fascinates me.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier today about qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP was the eye-opening (excuse the pun) camera POV on Vettel's car showing exactly what happens in the cockpit during a lap.
Apparently, Red Bull mounted a camera on/in his right side mirror.
It's focused on his eyes and head.
You can look directly into his eyes (he rarely blinks) as he makes his P1 lap.
And you can clearly see (up close) the G-forces attacking his head and upper body as he hits the brakes, turns, etc...

This is the best camera work of the year (and there has been some GREAT shots all year).
Frickin' amazing Amazing AMAZING....
