NASCAR could learn something about how F1 produces their races. I know all races are produced by F1 and then channels are allowed to pick up their feed, unlike how the individual TV broadcaster produces the NASCAR races; but I love how minimalistic the graphics are on F1. If you watch a race on ESPN and the BottomLine is on, over 20% of the screen is taken up.

Aerodynamics is a part of ALL racing, at least to some extent.
Downforce will always be part of car racing...it's simply Newtonian.

I remember someone (Frank Williams?) saying that the downforce from a 90s car was like double or more from an 80s car. Honestly, I hate to say it but I would like to see spec bodywork. Let Gordon Murray design the bodywork so that you only have a couple of hundred pounds of downforce max. Bring back active suspension, turbos, multiple tire manufacturers etc.

Indycar doesn't race in the rain on ovals. Did you see New Hampshire last year?

Yeah, what a mess that was, but it gave us the classic Will Power Angry Birds. I would think they could race in the rain on rain tires on the short 3/4 - 1 mile ovals. But then again, I'm not driving the cars.

Edit: I couldn't resist

I actually missed a lot of Indycar last year.My first time doing that since I've always followed and attended open wheel racing since it was CART. I was specifically referring to MotoGP which is of course motorcycle racing. Le Mans also races rain or shine.

I wish they would hurry up and release this info. Even a ball park estimate would be nice. Can I assume $500 per person for grandstand seating? Trying to budget and purchase airline tickets. Trying to book flight and hotel early to try and save a little money. I need to figure out my paraphernalia budget. I need to make sure to set aside enough money to buy a Massa jersey and hat!

Why are they still using SD cameras on-board? HD cameras are cheap now. Bernie should be a ashamed... Cheap SOB...

I booked a hotel the day the Nov. date appeared on Twitter and they were already going fast. I've heard they are all now booked in and around Austin. If you don't yet have a hotel, be prepared to look far for one.

It's $1500 just for a seat license at the track so far. That doesn't include the ticket pricing.

Sigh...$500x2 I could swing, but alas I feel it will be much more depending upon how the season shakes out....

Don't forget your "Keep Austin Weird" shirt! I guess the normal 2 hour wait at Franklin's BBQ will turn into 5.

$300/night for the Motel 6 that weekend... They are raking in the dough.

Maybe I should rent my house out to some AVS F1 enthusiasts that weekend.

Yes, but to be clear, that's for the PSLs, and not all seating is PSL reserved. There will be general ticket sales.

You called it Bernie is all about Bernie. MotoGP changed from SD to HD on board cameras and it looks great. The commentators even mentioned how much better it looks.

About two years ago! On top of that he wanted to charge extra. I still think MotoGP forced him to since they upgraded and have HD cameras both stationary and on the bikes! He is so
well liked.

They had only upgraded the system used for SD on boards a year or two before they went HD ISTR, and the RF system is a non-trivial one to upgrade. (AIUI they went from uplinking to a helicopter to diversity COFDM received by multiple aerials around the track.)

At the end of the day it IS a cost thing - but replacing all your on-boards only a year or two after you already replaced them is pretty tricky.

Which is why I keep bring up MotoGP! They did it right away? F-1 cost more monetarily than MotoGP and they share some of the same circuits. They were being cheap.

Any thoughts on Michael Schumacher's third position? Can he podium this round? Mercedes looks strong for the first two events. Maybe that "blown diffuser" was an advantage for Red Bull.

It will be interesting to see how MS goes tomorrow.
I know one thing...if he has a chance to win, we will see every Schumacher trick in his book.
And that would be fun.

It is amazing how close the teams are this year...it really is.
McLaren, Mercedes, RB, Lotus, Ferrari (Alonso), and even Williams and Sauber have legitimate chances at podiums.
Six World Champions (how about that Kimi?)...

Speaking of Ferrari, it's time for Massa to go.
Bring in Perez...he has shown he is fast since coming to F1.

No question, the loss of RB's blown diffuser tech has hurt them.
However, they do have major upgrades coming and can't be counted out just yet.

Had Dorna just upgraded their on-boards ? That was my point. They had just spent large amounts switching from one system to another - and installing in the infrastructure required for trackside reception.

Interesting that you mention MotoGP - isn't the HD pretty low-quality though?
