At first I thought there was more to Shae than just being a whore, and that her real past would someday be revealed, but now I'm just glad she's dead lol

I thought their storyline had played out and it was a good time for an exit.

Tywin's primary task was to keep King's Landing safe.
With Jamie back in the saddle again (so to speak), his military skills and command of the army can do just that.

As for the Lannisters being at the center of power and bloodlines flowing (another Tywin concern), this has been as secured as can be expected under the circumstances.
Tywin could do no more.

Sandor's task has been completed, the journey is over, Arya no longer needs him.

Are we talking about a new line of dragons or something else?

I can see plenty of possible "dramatic counterweights to Stannis next season."

I thought the season finale was filled with wonderfully dramatic events. When Jon took the captured wildlng's advice and took Ygritte's body outside the walls of Castle Black to burn it, he nearly broke down as he was walking away from her funeral pyre. I nearly broke down too.

Tyrion's killing of Ygritte and his father in the Hand's quarters was gut wrenching. I thought Tyrion's use of the necklace he had given Shae to choke her to death and the shooting of Tywin on the commode with Joffrey's crossbow was inspired storytelling. Benioff and Weiss know how to do irony.

Finally, Arya's refusal to give the Hound the mercy of a quick death but instead walking off to let him suffer and die slowly and painfully, was chilling. Thus, the Hound was left to die alone, contemplating the ignominy of having been defeated by a woman and wondering whether he would die of exposure or bleed out first. Our Arya has become a coldblooded little girl!

I guess you don't remember the episode where Stannis's right hand man was negotiating for all the ships and such after talking to the Iron Bank and the discussion about what is going on up north at the wall.

Red Priestess told him to go north.

Surprised his right hand man didn't object but it was the right call.

Or the opening, previously on GOT, where Melisandre warns Stannis that the true threat is coming from the North. What was the look that Melisnadre was giving Jon Snow at Castle Black thru the flames? Could his mother be a Baratheon?

Now that I think about it, you're right. Tyrion had to be looking for Tywin so that he could send him to his just desserts. Finding Shae was like winning another prize in the bonus round for Tyrion. Two for the price of one as they say.

As much as I enjoyed following the travels of Arya with the Hound and Brienne with Jamie, the Bran Hodor road trip has mostly made my eyes glaze over. Admittedly, the finale had a lot more going for it than usual, with the attack by the skeletal white walkers and the death of Jojen. Still, ho hum.

I thought one of the great visual moments in the history of the series was the attack by Stanis's legions on Manse Rayder and his Northmen. Great, great stuff!.

I still can't figure out whether Jon will leave the Night's Watch. Jon told Manse in no uncertain terms that he had honored his vows all along and had killed the Halfhand and joined the wildlings on Halfhand's express order. But Jon seems to be the odd man out at Castle Black these days, so who knows which way he will jump.

Also some comments from the director about the fate of the Hound:
"Graves also suggested that The Hound will not be coming back after Arya left him to die on that hillside. “As far as The Hound, as I told the story … he’s gone. How is he going to survive that? The real point of it was that she walks away, it wasn’t that it’s left open ended.”

Poor Roose Bolton. His reign as Warden of the North will be a short one I think.

After all the hardships and tragedy the Starks have suffered the remaining children are all in a good place and set to be major players in the upcoming season:

Arya's on her way to becoming a skilled assassin with a hit list.

Jon is right in the midst of the two largest armies on the continent and could potentially be aligned with either or both.

Sansa has risen to power in the Vale along with Littlefinger.

Bran is some kind of mind-controlling superhero hanging out with the wizards and elves at the top of the world.

Rickon is... well Rickon is safe for now at least.

I agree that Shae probably was not Tywin's pawn while she was with Tyrion. I think it likely that the opportunity to align herself with Tywin didn't arise until after Tyrion's trial. Shae was a classic example of a victim. Her only protections were her body and her wiles and in the end they were not enough. Poor girl!

I guess The Hound's quip about taking the chance to ravage Sansa bloody during the Blackwater battle was a step too far over the line for Arya, and forced her to leave The Hound to slowly bleed to death just like he let her friend - the butcher boy bleed to death in Season 1. She is the right kind of cold blooded, in my books.

Someone refresh my memory please. The face-changey guy that gave Arya the coin, did he tell her she could learn that ability or did he say he was born with it? It could be very interesting is she came back from across the narrow sea with that skill. Assuming that's where she's headed.

Limited opportunities for women in Westeros .. the irony is Tywin threatening Tyrion over Tyrions penchant for ladies of the evening in the Red Keep yet has no problem with himself walking that walk .. with a former Tyrion squeeze ..

I'll miss Tywin .. since the first appearance skinning the elk or whatever it was, he presented a strangely twisted, yet somehow weirdly honorable, yet consistent character ..

Oddball: Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

While I agree with you that for most of the time anything with Bran was kind of forgettable this season apart from the finale, I think it was more of a necessity that they be featured so often with so little to do. As with all characters on the show the foreground players have to die for the smaller roles to become significant. Since Bran has been waiting in the wings since the first episode it just feels like a very, very long time in which he hasn't done very much. I imagine Bran is going to be a major asset in the future (especially if he becomes Bran Drogon) so throwing reminder breadcrumbs of his existence at the audience, until the time when he ascends to the front row, is something the audience is going to have to live with. I expect the payoff to be huge. And fiery.

Unless of course the old guy under the tree meant Bran would fly by turning into a raven. In which case that might be anticlimactic.

Still, I have to say I always enjoy Battle Hodor. I felt really sorry for him when he was getting bashed by a skeleton hammer because it seems that Hodor gets pummeled every other week now.

Hodor Smash!

According to the TV Wiki recap the abilities of the Faceless Men are never explained. Jaqen just offered her an open invitation.

Having left Harrenhal, Arya, Gendry and Hot Pie see Jaqen on top of a cliff. Arya approaches him and he offers to take her with him to Braavos to join the Faceless Men. Though she wants to, Arya declines saying she must find her brother, mother and sister. Jaqen gives her a coin and tells her that if she decides to go to Braavos she must show the coin to a Braavosi and say the words "Valar Morghulis". He tells her to say the words and then announces that Jaqen H'ghar is dead. He turns his face away from Arya and when he turns back his face has changed. "Jaqen" then says "Farewell, Arya Stark" and walks away, seeming to have known her true identity all along.
