If I am not mistaken Dance of Dragons was used in a references to a civil war between 2 factions of the Targaryen family about 100 years before they lost the throne to Robert Baratheon

Wow, now that's what I call an episode. End to end it had me smiling and riveted to my seat. They didn't go many places but they didn't need to.

I know people on the west coast may still be catching up so I'll be careful with what I say, but wow just wow....

lived up to the 'epic' billing...that was amazing...best large scale battle ever on the show- better then Blackwater which took place entirely at night...better then last season's battle at the Wall...the fact that tonight's battle came out of nowhere with no buildup or hype made it even more special

Not sure what qualifies as epic, but i just watched it twice. That's the payoff for a slower run this season. Phenomenal!

when Jon killed the White Walker in the hut it wasn't explicitly explained but I'm assuming the sword given to him by Lord Commander Mormont had some bits of dragonglass in it...I wonder if Mormont knew of it's ability to kill Walkers

Loved the battle, we now know 2 things can kill WW. That was on a scale I haven't seen on TV ever. Also, this was in contrast to the movement we saw before. It looks like they went from TWD to world war z very quickly.

The scenes with Cersi were amazing. We have seen someone broken down, yet still fighting with every breath in her body. I thought it a few times and was surprised no one (even in podcasts) mentioned that quick line last week where she said "I'm the queen".

Sansa finally finding out why he told. It was a sick way to do it, but was the "only" way. Reek still remembers who he was even though there may be no part of him left.

The chat between Tyrion and Dany what can I say but magnificent. PD shines almost anytime he has a monologue on this show. He came just at the right time when Danny has lost all of her main advisors.

Epic episode from beginning to end...

His sword is Valyrian Steel, (I think) that is a rare steel that rarely gets made anymore and is supposed to have "special" properties. To speak the the rarity right now there are only 2/3 Valyrian steel swords that are known. Ned Starks sword ICE was the ONE major, it was split into two.

I thought dragonglass was the only way to kill Walkers...so Valyrian steel is even better?

It was the only known way before this last episode. It seems Valyrian steel is a new way. This expla ms the surprised look both Jon and the WE had when longclaw stopped the WW sword. Not sure there is a "better" but the sword Jon posses allows for actual swordplay where the pieces of dragonglass they have are small so you must get in close.

but it'll be easier to mass produce dragonglass since Valyrian Steel is so rare...even Stannis mentioned Dragonstone having lots of dragonglass...I always thought they could make longswords out of the dragonglass...either way I think Dany's 3 dragons will be useful in taking down a lot of the Walkers

No one knows what they can do with it, it's not a mass produced mineral like steal. From the weapons we have seen the production seems fairly "crude". The fire rule seems to only work for the undead. As we saw tonight the WW have no fear of fire and extinguish it as soon as they are close. Could the dragons help? For sure, but we don't know the effectiveness just yet. The WW are the ones that need to be worried about as they can raise an army easily. With the plentiful bodies from the current wars the army could be massive.

Many of the great house and a good number of the lesser ones had or have then. When Ice was recast by Tywin Lannister he had brought some forgers to do the job. The steel itself came from Valyria and had something like the fire of Valyria in it.

The White walker that exchanged looks with Jon must have known who and what he is. Wish I knew.

the battle at Hardhome will be what everyone remembers but the rest of the episode also had a lot of nice scenes...is there no hope for Ser Jorah?...he's always been one of my favorite characters and it'll be sad to see him fight to the death in front of the woman he has always loved...his greyscale seems to be spreading so I don't see this ending well for him...the Tyrion/Dany scenes also had a lot of nice dialogue...looks like Varys and Tyrion will be her new advisors

I'm not sure what Ramsay meant when he said all he needed was 20 men to take care of Stannis and his army...are we not going to get the major Winterfell battle that has been teased all season?

I'm speaking of show knowledge only. They haven't shown or discussed other houses having them. They are still very rare compared to other swords thus their high value.

I think your looking too deep into this. Every single sword previously the WW had shattered with his weapon. When Jon blocked the blow and his sword didn't shatter both were surprised.

You don't need many men to sneak into a camp and infiltrate an already weakened army Stannis's army is a southern army and not ready for the cold/snow. The Boltons are northerners and "ready". If they get to Stannis then that's all they need. Ramsay has always been cocky however and that may be his downfall. Stannis cockiness got him in trouble before as well.

The one Jon got from Mormont was one that belonged to the Mormont's on bear island.

The way I understand it, Valyrian steel was tempered with Dragon fire and that is why it is able to kill the White Walkers.
