Spoiler!

What's dead may never die.

Yea tonight's was awesome....1st impressions what they say may still be true. Also, next week looks like another packed episode.

It seems they are taking things up this season as usually we don't have this many events packed in front.

It would annoy a lot of people, but part of me would find it hilariously bold if next week someone instantly overreacted to an undead Snow and killed him again within minutes of him being resurrected.

Episode 2 was fantastic...A+...the Jon Snow reincarnation was obvious (although I'm wondering if he'll now be called Jon Stark)...the Roose Bolton death was surprising...I still like the Ramsay character as he's one of the few who's actually full on evil with no shades of grey like the majority of GoT characters...although I do think he will meet his end this season...great seeing Bran and Hodor again...people always complain about the Bran storyline being boring but I've always loved his story...Max Von Sydow as the new Three Eyed Raven is excellent casting as he brings instant gravitas to every scene

the flashback with Lyanna, Ned and Benjen was obvious foreshadowing as I think we'll finally find out Jon Snow's true parentage soon...good to see Euron Greyjoy make his debut although I'm sad to see Balon get killed off...the actor always did a great job in the role...the new season has hit its stride

I think they have stepped on the accelerator so far and next week looks to be more of the same. I agree I enjoyed being back with Bran and Hodor. (Snipped out the speculation since it comes from book readers ) I was surprised to see 2 "major" deaths this episode. I was think revenge was a major theme this episode until they dropped the hammer at the end. Ramsey is much more "fun" than Jeoffery, even though he is pure evil.

I liked Joffrey a bit better as his petulant temper tantrums were always hysterical...plus he never realized how much of a psychopath he was and the actor always played it perfectly...I'm expecting this season to be like Season 4 where major events happened throughout the season and wasn't limited to Episode 9 or 10...one of the many great things about this show is how seemingly minor characters are referenced later on and/or they become more important down the road...case in point the return of the Karstarks...so after Rob murdered Rickard Karstark back in Season 3 they joined up with the Boltons which is an interesting twist

Funny, I'm having the opposite reaction to him. I find his brutality to be getting a bit tiresome. Like the writers feel the need to constantly remind of us of what a bad person he is.

Enjoyed the episode, but man, the actor that plays Bran, pulled a WALT!!!

Seems to me, that since recasting wasn't done, they should have at least creatively asserted that the tree's power had advanced his age, or something.

The stand out favorite for me was Tyrion and the dragons. But where did they go? Is there a bigger exit door to the rear?

I believe it's a cave system in the back. Not 100% sure, but that's what I would guess. You have to figure it's been what 1-2 years if not more since we last saw him. Not sure much explaining needs to be done. I'm actually kind of glad they didn't.

GOT is taking place over a much longer period of time than Lost, and Bran made significant physical changes seasons ago.

If you watched the previews for next week, the extremely brief moment with Jon Snow and the men at Castle Black, and the words about some people thinking he might be a God has me wondering about the whole Azor Ahai coming back in the body of Jon Snow thing.

Roose not seeing that coming was disappointing. I can't stand Ramsey. He's truly a sadist who enjoys cruelty, in it's most vile and vicious forms.

The kid comes of age and he's only one of 2 people in the land that get to watch porn. How else is he going to find out what happened?

I don't remember if it was this thread or the spoiler one, it doesn't matter now that we've seen Jon pop up. But, someone theorized that he would be reborn in fire, targaryen blood, the whole 9. I was about to subscribe to that theory, until I just remembered a scene early on when he burned his hand during that first zombie kill. Can't be fire resistant if you burn.

Red priestess was all mopey and not confident about being able to pull it off but she sure made a show of it.

She might as well have snapped her fingers because that would have been as likely to work as the ritual of washing, the cutting of the hair and uttering the mumbo jumbo.

The guy who killed the old king, Theon's father, is suppose to be some long lost brother?

And that guy who stayed loyal to Ramsey because King Rob killed his father or something, does he realize that Roose was the one who killed Rob?

Not happy with tonight's episode, my number 1 pet peeve of shows is when dead people don't stay dead. I always gave this show a pass since the dead people came back as zombies but seeing Jon Snow come back was predictable, safe and not what this show should be about. Not happy with the Mountain coming back either, even if he is half zombie. I know people will say they have set up before that people have been resurrected but it was exceedingly rare. Why doesn't Melisandre go resurrect Stannis now? Why didn't she just do it right away?

or Jon bleeding to death after everybody left... and then woked up again...

Can't explain, but somehow dialogue and whole atmosphere

I think the show has earned plenty of credit in the "dead characters staying dead" bank. At this point they could probably resurrect everyone on the show and it still wouldn't outnumber how many significant characters this show has killed. This episode alone you had four, including a baby. One undead Snow and a Frankenstein's monster is a trivial amount.

As to why Melisandre didn't ressurrect Stannis, you had your answer directly from her. Not to mention that Stannis was killed on a battlefield filled with an enemy force searching for his body.

On this show characters coming back from the dead is actually novel.

We we saw the 'red priest' bring his friend back to life before, didn't the friend say that he 'comes back a little less each time'?

Enormous Jon Snow spoiler. You've been warned.

I was wondering where you get the hair from if the dead guy is bald and has no facial hair? :O

Also, the producers said that Karstark seemed to be in on the plan to assassinate Roose because he did not flinch when Ramsey did the deed.

'Game of Thrones' on HBO HD - NO SPOILERS or Book Discussion

@CycloneGT since this is a no spoilers thread, it would probably be best to not post anything (even if in spoiler tags).

It seems we have a few book readers making their way and cross posting. Since there ARE still spoilers left it may be best to be careful what one posts.

She didn't think she had the ability, would be my guess. Plus, since Stannis died it basically ended her faith and made her realize she's been wrong and probably her god is either toying with her (false visions in the flames) or maybe one true god isn't real at all. She said as much in this episode.

Another thing, even if she did know she could actually raise men from the dead, that doesn't mean that it would occur to her to violate the fate her god had given Stannis. He just wasn't the one after all. She also said the same thing about bringing Snow back, "he's better off remaining dead" or some such.

She wasn't pretending to be skeptical of being able to pull it off, that much was sure. She told the other red priest who did that before "you should not have this power". Meaning she thought mortals shouldn't be able to do that, herself included presumably.

Also, as for your second phrase, it's the words in the incantation that actually matter. The original priest who did it had lost his faith (or even perhaps never truly believed the One True God was even real to begin with) and then uttered them and was astonished that it actually worked. You can find the quotes on the net.

So, it was indeed the "mumbo jumbo" that did the trick, not the fact that she was the high priestess and they worked despite her faith being gone by that point. I haven't read the books so I don't know for sure, but I suspect given these two precedents that anyone who utters them might have a chance of bringing someone back despite them having little or no faith. The important part are the words have magic in and of themselves. Lots of fiction have this as a premise, as do many religions in real life. Who knew that performing empty rituals would actually work? That's a bold statement coming from GRR Martin come to think of it. The One True God doesn't really care if you believe in him, he will grant you the magic from the rite if the words are spoken properly and he wills the same thing. Obviously Jon Snow coming back is one of those things.

Zombie Mountain smashing heads, giants taking batting practice with humans, what's not to love? lol

I thought they did a god job with Jon awakening, good bit of tension even though there seemed to be little doubt. Tyrion unchaining the Dragons was a great scene, love the line about punching him in the face if he has anymore bad ideas. No complaints from me.

So if they were going to resurrect Snow in the first place, what was the purpose of the assassination?

Maybe they wanted to get rid of the mutineers so that Snow has absolute loyalty there?

Personally, though I'm glad to see Jon Snow is back, I wish it happened less predictably. People have been guessing for a while that it would be Melisandre who'd bring him back. I was sort of hoping he'd come back as a white walker with a conscience or something else that no one expected.
