It would certainly make sense, wouldn't it? I wonder, though. The showrunners, David and Dan, have consistently said that they would love to film more than 10 episodes a season. 13 was the number that GRRM and they kept mentioning that they would prefer. But they said that the pre-production, training and rehearsal, filming, and post-production schedule literally left no time in between 10-episode seasons. At least not without lowering production values. And that's without taking into account interviews, public appearances, and so on.

They are already talking about having to push back the start of the 2017 season in order to wait for colder weather. If they did film 13 episodes, intending to split them into two seasons, I think they would have to push back the start of the 2017 Season even further. I'm not sure about that, though. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I feel pretty certain that HBO would want to stretch the series out over two seasons, instead of compacting everything into a single 13-episode season starting in, let's say June, or so of next year.

From a fan standpoint, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they decided they need 14 or more episodes. I hate to see it end.

this is fantastic...if you want to start watching Game of Thrones but feel overwhelmed by how much you need to catch up on, Samuel L. Jackson is here to help...the actor narrated a seven-minute "Beginner's Guide" recap for HBO, which is the perfect blend of information and gratuitous cursing (aka exactly what you'd want from a Jackson recap)...

For me the Summer start is fine. In the heat I like to think Winter is Coming.

for me I always felt that GoT was a Fall show (meaning September start date) which would fit in perfectly with the 'Winter is Coming' tagline...it was perfectly setup for the marketing folks at HBO...I think originally when Season 1 premiered in April of 2011 they never figured it would get this popular so they probably didn't care about matching it up with actual Winter (or close to it)

as far as 15 episodes left, I wouldn't count on it...the rumors have always been 13 with it being split 7 and then 6 for the final season...the rumors have been pretty spot on thus far so I would expect a 6 episode final run in 2018 (maybe George RR Martin will actually have Winds of Winter out by then)

I think HBO could hold its own versus any show or sports programming but it would definitely put a dent in ratings...but HBO also has the advantage of multiple replays during the week where people can catch up...plus GoT is more popular in other countries then Walking Dead...and yes- HBO also does not care about ratings in the same way that traditional networks do- HBO has no commercials or sponsors to worry about

With ~20 million weekly viewers, I'm not so sure HBO cares of the "when" as long as people do. There is no advertising, so it's not like they are losing out on something major. It would have to be something catastrophic for HBO to cancel. With only ~15 episodes left I think they'll "eat" what's left regardless.

even though we have to wait a bit longer for Season 7, HBO has confirmed that the Season 6 Blu-ray set will be released much earlier then normal...it's coming on November 15th (digital release on August 1st)...normally they only release the previous season box-set around February-March, right before the new season starts...

May as well grab that Christmas ca$h if you can't leverage the DVD/BD in the spring. Sure as heck aren't going to wait until Summer to release the disks.

I only purchase the Blu-ray set, but isn't the inside box art and images the exact same for the DVD?...the only difference being that the discs either have a Blu-ray logo stamped on it or a DVD logo

They should have used the face of "Young Ned" on the Season 6 cover instead of the face of the guy who was slain back in 2011.

But..... I guess that is the face he died with and these are the collected faces on the wall. But most of them aren't dead yet. Bah.. It's all the same to the many-faced god.
