I thought the scene where the Lady Knight, Brienne of Tarth, pledged her loyalty to Catelyn Stark, then Stark returning her oath was especially powerful.

There's even a fan page for the scene!

I love the oaths and the honor that goes with it. I love how it is such an important part of the culture to them and a huge deal if they break their oath. For instance, Jamie Lannister breaking his oath to protect the king. I think that is why I like the Starks do much...when they say an oath they mean it and they consider it a huge sleight to break it. Remember when Robb Stark said to The GreatJon that when he was done with the Lannisters that he would match to the Umbers Keep and hang him as an oath breaker. I think life would be so much easier if we all lived like this now. Sometimes I wish that we lived in a feudal society where you live and die by the sword. I think I would make a great warrior and it doesn't hurt that I'm 6 food 5 and built like a brick sh*t house. Speaking of sh*t house, that would be a huge problem for me, not having running water would be absolutely disgusting to me.

Perhaps you should change your screen name to the Mountain.

When they showed Daenerys feeding her dragon---there seemed to be tension between the 2 female servants in the room with her. Did I miss something recent? Or was that covered somewhere in Season 1 when she became the Khalessi? Or when they were all roaming the desert?

I think it's just two different sets of beliefs and they both are trying to influence her with what they believe to be correct

Covered in Season 1, I believe in the second show where one of her hand maidens (Doreah -- I think) gets favor for teaching her the ways of love which she uses to make Khal Drogo her dog. I can't tell them apart but the other one is Irri and, in my attempts to find this out, have been seeing that she is the one who is out of sorts.

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Doreah

no spoilers there

Don't judge the show until after the second episode. You may be a bit overwhelmed with all the names and places.

Just a reminder for those starting GOT for the first time.

First: You shouldn't be reading this post because you should catch up before reading the thread.

Second: The intro to each episode is semi-customized and varies slightly to show the relevant areas of the map based on where the story is currently.

Not only that but they show the areas the show will visit or are important to that particular episode. They often change weekly by one or two locations ;-). If your just tarting probably would be best to start at the beginning of this thread.

I would also recommend watching on HBOGo for the extra features which really help with the maps/lineage/terms.

Thanks A couple of things need to be changed, though. Renly needs to be marked "deceased", and they should stop drawing a line between Cersei and Robert to her children.

Even tho Robert may not technically be the father, the majority of people still believe him to be. I dont think it will change until it becomes common knowledge to the small folk. Robert being the father of the 3 children is also where the children and House Lannister draw there power from. It was also confuse the hell out of newcomers who stumble upon that guide when they first start watching the show.
