After a car accident takes the life of a family member, a police detective lives two alternating parallel lives, one with his wife and one with his son. Is one of his "realities" merely a dream?

I hope I don't come off as a troll but I just don't see this show going very far just on the basic premise alone.

You can never judge a show by its pilot episode or the half season following it.

Reading the summary alone, I would agree. The trailer is what is an instant sell, imo.

Yep. Even if it only lasts a season, there's no way I can not watch it after seeing that trailer.

Is this a fully serialized show where the crime solving provides little clues that help him solve his mystery and that's what the show fundamentally is, or is it basically a way to repackage the traditional crime procedural with this overarching mystery arc thrown in to spice it up a bit?

I never saw 'Life on Mars', but this seems like it could be a similar format.

That's definitely the way to make a trailer and make a show look interesting. The question they pose at the end of the brief description is also interesting - "is one of his 'realities' merely a dream?" I would have thought the opposite would be the question - is one of his dreams a reality, and which one?

What??? Blasphemy! OK, I've never seen the BBC version, but the U.S. version is pretty good, even though ABC rushed it to a close. I'd love to have it on BD....the only way to currently get it in HD is from iTunes.

Anyway, what if the twist is neither version is real, but himself is in some sort of limbo (purgatory)? Yeah, I know; let the games begin..

The trailer hooked me even if it is on NBC.

Nope, no purgatory. Not going to do it! Not going to go there. Our [future] fans expect more than a blatant deus ex machina like that to "explain" it all away at the end. We're going to be better than that! No purgatory, unh uh, no way!!

How about a coma, instead? I suspect they're gonna throw us a curve-ball of a twist. It is starting to feel a little like LoM..

Holy Frak - looks promising. I just hope they can pull this off every week.

Yeah, I think it will have to be that when he finally gets the two realities to connect, and "solves" what's going on, he'll wake up in the hospital with his wife and son both alive. That said, if done right it will be a great ride and I'll love it.

I'm surprised this hasn't already been mentioned in this thread, but in case anyone is expecting this to premiere in the next few weeks, it's not actually "coming this fall" and never was scheduled for fall. It will be a midseason entry, probably premiering sometime between January and March. (Although, I guess they could pull it off the shelf sooner if they need to fill a whole left by, say "The Playboy Club" or "Prime Suspect.")

It has one thing going for it: it wasn't created by Jason Smilovic who was responsible for two other NBC series, "The Bionic Woman" (a woman living a dual life) and "My Own Worst Enemy" (a man living a dual life).

I'm a sucker for reality/dream premises so I'll have to watch and hope they don't mess it up.

In case everyone has forgotten about this show, you have a good reason to.

NBC announced their mid-season lineup and Awake is in production and scheduling limbo.

Not appearing on NBC any time soon.

NBC is having a session on Awake this afternoon at the Television Critics Association meeting, so there should be at least a hint of a airdate.

NBC Sends Firm' To Saturdays, Schedules New Drama Awake' In Thursday 10 PM Slot
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - Feb. 3, 2012

After The Firm dropped to a new series low of a 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 last night that's got to be a historic low for NBC- the network is pulling the drama series from the Thursday 10 PM slot effective immediately. The acquired legal drama, a sequel to the John Grisham novel and 1993 movie, will continue its 22-episode run in the Saturday 9 PM slot starting next week.

Its place will be taken by NBC's midseason drama Awake, starring Jason Isaacs. The complex, reality-defying series about a detective who finds himself leading a double life will premiere March 1. In the interim, NBC will air Grimm reruns in the Thursday 10 PM hour.

Awake hails from creator/executive producer Kyle Killen and executive producer/showrunner Howard Gordon. 20th Century Fox TV is producing. It will be the third freshman drama NBC is launching in the Thursday 10 PM period this season following Prime Suspect and The Firm.

Nice. I liked the teaser posted earlier in this thread. I'll give the pilot an chance to see if I like it. Looks to have potential but we'll see.

I haven't watched the 7 min. teaser yet, but I'm really looking forward to this; i think the premise is great. One gets concerned when you see a show held back, that's usually not a good sign, but we'll see.
