By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - September 7th, 2011

Syfy has renewed freshman drama Alphas for a second season. The series, from BermanBraun, Universal Cable Prods and writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, has been a solid performer airing behind veteran Warehouse 13. Alphas stars David Strathairn and follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. Penn is executive producing with showrunner Ira Steven Behr and BermanBraun's Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein.

The article a few posts back mentioned an all-day marathon of the show's first season on September 26.

I agree. Although I liked Cartwright just fine as an English science geek in Bones, I think his performances as the brilliant but impaired Gary Bell in Alias have been far richer and more entertaining. Gary is a character who I find myself loving, hating, and feeling sorry for, sometimes all at once.

I like Gary as well. It might just be me but I think his portrayal has been dialed back ever so slightly. And when over the top it's often very funny. The $800 taxi fare had me in stitches.

Gary seems to get all the best lines in the show. Respect the badge!

Well now I thought tonight's episode was quite good! It wasn't your typical MotW episode and it showed that there's a lot more going on in the world than we know. Pretty cool.

While I agree that less Gary is good, I don't really agree that there WAS less Gary in this episode. The fourth or fifth mention of gun turrets went past my ignore-it threshold.

I liked Data. Wish he would have survived for future episodes. The girl from Lost seems to have an interesting ability.

I like Gary, as long as they don't make his character too unrealistic. He does get some good lines to say. Also, it's funny to watch whoever seems to be on "babysitting" duty each week. Babysitting appears to be mostly begging Gary to shut up and stay still. The subtle irony that most of his teammates hate him is part of the fun.

They sort of missed the point of having a "named" guest star when they made her invisible for most of the episode.

Maybe she needs to have a better agent.

They could have played it as "invisible to them, but not to the audience." Her ability made her clothing invisible too. Good trick that. She must be really good not to have anyone accidentally run into her in a crowded office.

He was an interesting character with his own agenda. It was fun watching him face off against the invisible woman- too bad he won't be back.

I thought this was a very good episode. Two bad guys, one going after the other with the regulars caught in between. Very entertaining. And even though Gary usually aggravates me, I laughed out loud at a couple of his lines.

Her ability didn't make her invisible, just not noticeable. It was an interesting take on that type of ability.

As far as Gary, I think he is dialed down from the pilot. The actor is doing a great job.

Already been done in Stephen King's "Eyes of the Dragon". In it, Flagg becomes what he calls "dim" - as in able to blend in and become close enough to invisible that people won't notice you if you stay still and quiet.

It's very inconsistent. Sometimes he's reasonably subtle to not overtake the scene - other times I want to smack him into unconsciousness.

I completely agree. I feel exactly the same way. Inconsistent. I laugh some of the time and other times it feels so so forced and overdone as to drive one to bang my head.

Just about everything has been already done somewhere. (Something is nagging me that there might have been an X-Files episode which did something along those lines.) The writers might have read that story and thought it was a good idea, or they might have come up with it independently. Either way, it doesn't mean that it wasn't an interesting approach to the idea.

Another interesting episode... Seems like this episode could've happened earlier in the season rather than the second to the last episode of the season. Sad to see it end so soon.

One of Gary's best episodes. Hope the show is renewed. Maybe it already has and I forgot.

Gary handled the "situation" very well. Usually an Austic would have very great difficulty with a forced change to an unknown location. All of them had a potential reason for being a traitor. The interaction between them was interesting when none of them was sure who was the bad guy.

They have good reason to be not trusting the government when this kind of thing happens to them.

It is always interesting when a British drops their American accent, and talks normally. I would have never have guessed the actor who plays Gary is British.

Enjoyed "The Unusual Suspects"... shows that this show isn't just bag and tag the MOTW.

Looks like Alphas is hitting it's stride now with pretty much consistently good episodes.

Too bad only two more eps this season
