Musk & others are right to be concerned about what either an unrestrained, unbridled AI or a malevolent AI could do.

We need a "Root" to hard code the Three Laws of Robotics into EVERY AI's infrastructure.
Miss just one, and...
Robotic is, I think, the next step in evolution. I embrace it wholeheartedly. Biological organisms are too weak and flawed. Robots don't get sick, don't consume resources unnecessarily, don't have to reproduce in order to exist, etc, etc,.

I dream of a robotic version of me -- a machine with my brains.

There is nothing to fear from AI or robotic. We have been using some forms of AI and robots for decades now. The GPS satellites orbiting earth are one example of many of these robots that have been working for the benefit of human kind.

Think of AI and robots as our children, because we create them.

Anyway. back to POI. Show is OK.

Back to POI, the show's creators and writers see the possible threats by unbridled real AIs* as quite formidable.
And before we mention the obvious, "It's only a TV show" Elon Musk, Bill Joy and others with serious technical perspective publicly share that concern.
I hope that Penrose, et. al. are correct and that POI style AIs, the kind that Musk & Joy warn about, are simply not possible.

* Not what gets marketed & touted as AI software today.

People get married to have a family. One day their children will take over. We have no problem with that. Likewise, I see no problem with AIs taking over.

Like the best of POI episodes, this one was like a short movie. The preview for next took away some of the tension though.

There's still some tension, we have to wait until the next episode though after that cliffhanger.

Hoky smokes Bullwinkle! What an episode.

Without giving too much away, I thought it was going to turn into another version of that ST:TNG episode where they go into an infinite time loop, but then other stuff happens.

And Root gets smooched! TWICE!

Wow. The beauty of this show is that you can never expect what kind of a format it's going to follow episode after episode. This one was a stunner

Will be interesting to see how Sashi survives after being gut shot several times and almost shot point blank but we don't see.

Supposed to be my favorite show, and I haven't been keeping up lately. Anyway, great ep last night. Like how Finch was teaching the machine; or was it teaching him?

Wasn't surprised by the Shaw and Root kiss but almost fell out of my couch when Fusco did it... (after falling off when Finch got "killed")

(I think it was Amy Acker idea about that one)

I know we wanted Root and Shaw to hook up. With some gratuitous girl-on-girl nudity. Well, that ain't gonna happen now.

Root and Fusco? Not so much.
(loved it when Fusco said "Why not? It's only a simulation." - partly breaking the fourth wall )

What a great episode. The painting in the hall made me LOL three times, or was it four. I do hope we see Shaw again at some point but as long as I get to keep Root I'll survive.

(See excerpt from the article below pic)

From the article:
PLAGEMAN:
I was actually there on set with Sarah that day, and it’s a little bit different in terms of how she initially approached it. She had a really interesting take on it in terms of character, meaning that she never thinks she’s ever going to lose. She approached it that way as almost like a shut-up kiss. But I think what we were looking for was just a little bit more of that reciprocity in terms of the emotions between the characters in those final moments between them this season. Wanting a sense of, “I may or may not make it out of this and I don’t know, so I might as well give her what she wants.”
NOLAN: I never took it as a goodbye kiss so much as, Shaw’s a person who knows how to get a job done. The job is that she needs to get Root back onto that elevator. Whether she’s going to make it back or not, she needs Root to make it back out, even if I’ve got to knock her ass out, then how can I get her back into this elevator? The tool seemed appropriate for that job, and in that moment, the fun thing for us is the second right after the kiss, when you see a little moment for Shaw and Root. That was actually kind of nice. We’re very excited to pick up where we left off here.

By the way, we got two new food related euphemisms for Root: Nutella and Banana Nut Crunch.

How many have there been? They're starting to add up as much as Dr. Smith's insults to the robot on "Lost in Space". (Google it if you don't get my reference. )

The first sim really got me. I did love how they were directing everyone towards one of the four in the building, then a brief moment when they are all going to make it and finally Shaw is the one that dies.

Great show and I will be curious if they wrap this Samaritan plot up this year or run it for another year.

I loved the one simulation where they used generic "dialog" in place of real dialog. I thought that was hilarious.
