May not be popular but the episode was ill timed at the end of the season when they should be going hard in the arc like they have the past 3 seasons. Pretty boring. Especially after watching the series finale of Justified. I fwd'd thru in a few spots.

The timing of it is a bit odd. Might have been better placed in January or February. Now there's only two episodes left to wrap up whatever they intend to wrap up this season.

I thought it was interesting, yet very strange even for POI standards. The only thing I can think of is this is John's way of dealing with the loss of Carter and trying to let go of himself so he can be close to the shrink.
He's bleeding out, he's hallucinating and Taraji P. Henson had a little free time and is one of the hottest (as in bankable) TV stars of the moment .. myself, I thought it was a great episode and showed us a side of Mr Reese that added more depth to his character .. and the addition of Carter was just the icing on the cake ..

Maybe because IMHO it was a drag episode.

I don't see them concluding any storyline in the last two eps besides maybe the Elias half of the brotherhood/elias storyline. Decima has been around since season 2. Not enough eps to tie that up. Plus they have shaw. The brotherhood hasn't gotten enough focus to tie up. HR lasted for 2 1/2 seasons before it was tied up. My guess is we will get some cliffhangers again.

Last nights ep did nothing for any of those storylines. They should have shown that sentimental, soul searching, nonsense earlier in the season. Not to mention they are not on again next week. Way too many breaks between new episodes this season.

I agree, the timing of the episode is off and will affect the pace and conclusion of the season and its storylines. I think the episode has value in character development for John in showing how much he thought of Carter, and how much he actually expressed. Showing how much he takes for granted in the team he works with and in his relationships with them. Also goes to show how deeply he felt for Carter. I don't think the gang wars or decima/machine face off will wrap up this season, they will most likely carry over. It is going to be a fast finish now though.

Unlike others here I agree with you. Getting a little tired of the Samaritan and the bad guys formula. This was a welcome change back to the main characters for me

I really liked the episode. I understand the frustration with the timing of it in the season but odds are the main story lines carry over until next season anyways.

I was very frustrated by this episode. Watched it last night and my FIOS DVR started recording late and ended early. Hope it is available on demand so I can see it in its entirety.

There's something going on with the guide at Fios because mine has been starting consistently at 10:01 for 2 months and it misses the first mnute of the show so I had to edit the season pass to start the recording a minute earlier.

Let me say my comments were not because I didn't like the episode. I liked it very much. Just ill-timed. I would have rather seen this earlier in the season instead of one of the filler episodes.

Not just fios. CBS has been starting POI a minute early on directv and it hasn't been reflected in the guide. I set the genie to start 1 minute earlier for POI after the second episode of the season.

I've noticed all season long its been starting early on my TiVo (missing about the first 30 seconds). Prior seasons the recording always picked up with about 10 seconds of the preceding commercial . . .

I believe it's time to Overthrow VerticalScope..
and Bring Back Huddler!

It's a shame that in the end TCU's playoff chances all came down to this . . .

I liked the episode, but agree its placement seemed a little strange. Not sure if they could have come up with as good as a season ender as last year. I could see them running this Samaritan plot line for another two years.

This is why I think POI is doomed. There's a segment watching because they find the AI stuff and AI wars fascinating and a segment watching that just wants another CBS weekly procedural with no underlying thread. Sometimes they overlap but there are folks in both camps who have become disinterested or are about to. The show loses viewers year over year.

I'm a big fan of POI but I did think the last episode was a smashing boor. Even with Reese who is a fav.

I think the weekly procedural camp will leave before the people who enjoy the main story arc.

Honestly, I hope they do a Lost or BSG and decide to end it before the show is canceled. Not sure if that is next year or the year after, but I can't see it going much longer than two years unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat.

I agree, the last episode sucked. But POI has been doing the same things since it started. It has been walking the line and stayed away from the boring procedural enough to be ground breaking. All TV ratings are down. People are watching time shifted, DVR, On demand, streaming, etc. Also, doesn't help that they put POI up against the sappy Chicago Fire in live ratings. They are basically even with each other ratings wise.

I'm a big fan of many TV shows throughout the years and have not watched a TV show live (other than sports) since the invention of the dual tuner DVR somewhere around 24 season 2. I know many who do the same. Check the live +7 or Live +30 ratings for a more accurate reading of ratings. POI will be here for a few more years.

I'm guessing that purely procedural shows fare better in syndication? e.g. tons of L&O & CSI but no Fringe or Lost?

For me, Reese's maudlin, out-of-character ramblings in Carter's last episode were a cringe-worthy low point - why on earth would they want to revisit that mess? Root's recent profession of the importance of Harold's friendship was also off-kilter but mercifully a lot more brief. This kind of crap would be like Gibbs launching into a 10-minute soliloquy telling Tony how much he treasures him and can't bear the thought of losing him, when a 1-second head slap is all that's called for. There's something to be said for keeping characters in-character...

Given where the show seems headed, what are ideas for re-inventing itself again? Some ideas:

- Samaritan begins to not take orders from the Decima guy (forget his name). Decima needs to find Harold and company to help fight back.
- Someone (similar to Snowden) in the government outs Samaritan. Samaritan begins to go after government officials who are investigating whether this is true and they have to find Harold (and the Machine) to help. Suddenly, the POI team have resources. Government cuts off the feeds to Samaritan and re-enlist Reese as a covert agent.

Thoughts and other ideas?

Sure, why not .. Reese dons a cape / cowel / utility belt, Root gets a Catsuit, Finch becomes a butler in charge of the Tech, Fusco is promoted to Police Commissioner .. oh, sorry, I think that may have already been done ..

On a serious note, take it down to a 13 episode season, stop with the gaps between episodes, beef up the Elias character screen time and when's the last time Reese tossed somebody thru a window .. ??

And on a positive note, the soundtrack tunes are still pretty good ..

If the government can cut off the feeds, why didn't they cut them off to our machine? I'm sure Samaritan is capable of far more drastic self-preservation measures.

Earlier this season I thought Control was starting to see the light and would ally with Finch, but that seems to have gone by the wayside...
