Debuts Thursday September 22, 9PM (from J.J. Abrams and J. Nolan). Could be the next big thing on network TV. It has two really excellent leads in Jim Caviezel (TPOC, Outlander) and Michael Emerson (LOST). Taraji P. Henson co-stars. The trailer below shows a bit of behind the scenes and a glimpse of shows' premise, which seems to borrow a bit from Minority Report:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68xN_BNYhc4

The two main leads are solid. Now I do like Henson, but hope she's doesn't become a distraction. I'm definitely on for the pilot. Will TV viewing audiences buy it (?), is the question.

Thursdays, on CBS 9/8c

Just due to having "Ben Linus" in the lead will have me tuning in.

I got a copy of a pilot from someone who works on the show. It really isn't anything special and I'm surprised how dull it is. The two main guys are okay but the show has no drive and no supporting characters to make this show great. I honestly think it will get dropped after a season and the only reason cbs picked it up is because it has JJ Abrams on it.

Jim Caviezel will have me tuning in for at least the first 4-5 episodes. Actually, like last year, I plan to record the pilot and first 2-3 episodes of every new broadcast series.

I'm tuning in. I'm a big fan of anything Nolan (either one of them).

I'll probably watch the premiere just because Michael Emerson is awesome, but this show has the stink of procedural all around it. Just a different way of giving the short-attention-span viewing public more of what it craves - 42 minutes of red-herrings leading to a satisfying conclusion with justice served and all the pieces neatly realigned on the board. Wash, rinse, and repeat every week. *sigh*

Well, I don't know. You convinced me the show will be mindless diversion, which is right down my alley, so, I'm wondering if you are a plant. If you condemn the competitors in their time slot by telling us of their great cerebral and lasting qualities, then I will know I am on to something.

Cop/doc procedurals are very popular and right down a lot of folks' alleys, as the Nielsen Company reminds us every week. Just not my thing. I'd hope for a more serialized plotline for a show featuring Michael Emerson - he was pretty good in the last one he did - but the description for this program doesn't seem to indicate it's anything more than an updating of The Equalizer with some spooky pseudo-sci-fi in a weekly procedural format. The cast makes it worth a look, however. Like the OP, I'll be there for the premiere.

I was also thinking it's very similar in concept to The Equalizer (RIP Edward Woodward), judging by the clips, Caviezel won't be reluctant at all about administering beatings and shootings to deserving vermin, what's not to like about this show?

Had no idea this show was coming out until I read an article about a person's most anticipated shows. The writer included this one on reputation alone, and I'll be watching for that very reason. JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan? Michael Emerson (Ben Linus from "Lost") and Jim Caviezel? How can this one go wrong?

There is very little about JJ Abrams' work--if ANY--that I could describe with the words "just another"....

Undercovers, What About Brian, Six Degrees ... he's only an exec producer and there are plenty of signs this could be just another CBS crime show. The plot synopsis alone is full of cliches.
a crime thriller about a presumed dead former-CIA agent, Reese, who teams up with a mysterious billionaire, Finch, to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. Reese's special training in covert operations appeals to Finch, a software genius who invented a program that uses pattern recognition to identify people about to be involved in violent crimes. Using state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the two work outside of the law, using Reese's adept skills and Finch's unlimited wealth to unravel the mystery of the "person of interest" and stop the crime before it happens.
Michael Emerson is the sole draw for me here and I suspect without him a lot of other people wouldn't bother to check it out either.

Plus it's on CBS. A network that nearly always plays it safe and to the audiences expectations.

Jonathan Nolan as the writer is the draw for me.

I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

That would be the only draw for me as well, were I to watch it, but I won't.

"24" meets "The Millionaire" meets "Minority Report?" It sounds pretty formulaic to me. You might as well bring House in to diagnose the medical conditions of the principals.

I did a search before posting a new one, rezzy. Didn't find anything.

Sounds like those interested are in the same camp as the writer of the article I read and myself...drawn to this by reputation alone.

Yah, VisionOn, I would agree with you about Undercovers and 6 Degrees....the problem with those was they never got to the point. And you made me think and sure enough...there isn't one show I watch on CBS.

So after the complete and utter debacle that was LOST is anyone really going to give another J.J. Abrams show a chance?

I swore off his shows after LOST.

This looks to be more of a procedural show - no major mythology to pay that much attention to. Plus, LOST-ish types shows are not something CBS normally seems to go with.

Then again, I had no issue with LOST thru to the end. And love FRINGE...so guess I'm the wrong guy to comment.

Umm, Lost was a "complete and utter debacle?" Huh, I still think of it as one of the best tv series ever that just happened to have a somewhat disappointed close, but whatever. Anyhow, yeah, not only is Person of Interest one of my most anticipated shows of the fall, I am also already ready for Alcatraz at midseason (and Star Trek 2 whenever that comes out.) Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying JJ can do no wrong, Undercover was a disappointment. For that matter, I think of Person of Interest more as a Jonah Nolan show that just happens to be exec produced by JJ Abrams.

Actually JJ didn't have much to do with LOST after the pilot episode and a general outline of the series. Day to day exec producer and writing responsibilities were Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. You can lay blame for the S-6 debacle on them. I know I do.

I liked the pilot. There's enough mystery to develop with the main characters and who knows, maybe there will be an overall arc added. Caveizel was pretty badass.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

Much better than Unforgettable. Shooting everyone in the leg reminded me of Terminator 2. Definitely keeping the season pass for this show.
