NBC's Grimm Gets Full-Season Order
By Michael Ausiello, TVLine.com -November 21st, 2011

Grimm fans are in for a full season's worth of scares: NBC has given the freshman spooker a back nine episode order.

We are very pleased to be making a full-season commitment for Grimm, said NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt. This series is turning the traditional procedural drama on its head and is attracting a loyal following for us on Friday nights. We love where it's going creatively and we're excited to deliver more episodes to our audience.

Grimm has been a rare bright spot for NBC this fall. Season to date, the show has averaged nearly 7 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demo.

In an effort to draw even more eyeballs to the rookie supernatural thriller, NBC is giving the show a special Thursday night showcase on Dec. 8 at 10 p.m.

What is this "showcase?"
A repeat of the pilot (which would be appreciated by me)?

Looks like two new EPs:

NBC is also giving "Grimm" a showcase by scheduling an episode on the higher-viewership Thursday night lineup. A new episode of "Grimm" will air at 10 p.m. Dec. 8, and return the following night with an episode in its regular 9 p.m. Friday slot, Dec. 9.

They take three weeks off and then come back on a different night and NBC wonders why their new shows can never gain any traction.

Even though I'd heard that NBC had picked up a couple more episodes of Grimm, I was starting to wonder if they had changed their mind and just canceled the show.

I don't think this will ever get a big audience no matter what night it's on. It's generic. It's barely a fairy tale. You could take out the fantasy aspect and it would be just another procedural. It's another show that uses the "hey, they all look human!" budget saver and has cops chasing bad guys.

If the show fully embraced it's fantasy origins and started doing something creative and different it might get attention. Right now Once Upon a Time is being more creative in that at least it's not afraid to acknowledge what it is and where the show gets it's source material.

The only real point of energy is Silas Weir Mitchell, but that's what he does. He steals scenes in almost everything I've ever seen him in.

You're right , unfortunately. Unfortunate, because there are some things good about it I think. But its getting so you really have to search for them. Its quirky enough that I'm still finding it enjoyable in parts, but I can't see it having a long lasting appeal. Now, if they got rid of the cops and focused on the werewolf...

Amen to that! The pretty boy Tom Cruise lookalike who plays the Grimm descendent isn't very good and the guy playing his cop partner isn't much better. Still, I stick with it because the monster of the week is usually interesting and I always enjoy Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe.

I like Monroe, the color and scenery, the morphs. I wish they'd cast someone else as the lead. But that's what we got, for the teen audience, maybe?

I thought this was one of the best eps thus far. I really enjoyed the new take on the Pied Piper. Thought that was really original with the rave aspect.

Looking forward to seeing tonights take on the 3 Little Pigs!

I like the 'vibe' of this show very much. It reminds me of the other Whedon/Greenwalt shows, (this one minus Joss) and those shows steadily improved with each episode.

I found the surround mix of the last two episodes to be particularly good. My only fear is NBC but I hope for the best.

The Cape got all the promotion but Grimm has the goods.

The Portland, Oregon thing is a real kick (considering it is 30 miles from my front door).

Nice use of Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre. Maybe a reference back to Buffy's Hush.

I love the Hush episode from the Buffy series. In fact, I love it so much, I ripped it to disc, along with my other favorite, Once More With Feeling, the musical episode. There were many great Buffy episodes, of course, but those two are the best of all, it seems to me.

A "Hush" is exactly what this show needs. The Buffy episode was more of a fairy tale monster story than Grimm is in tone, music, themes and creature design. Grimm needs to aim for that level of creativity and uniqueness to make it worth the investment and something more than just Criminal Minds with occasional CGI heads on the unsubs.

Unfortunately Greenwalt already said the aim of the show is to be a procedural that requires no commitment from the casual viewer, so unless they about face it's destined for typical MOW storylines.

I DVRd all the episodes of Grimm and just started watching them the last few days. I've now seen the first four and I'm loving this series! WAY better than I expected. My favorite character is the Blutbad. He cracks me up.

At least the retelling of the 3 little pigs was a step in the right direction. Turning the tale on its head, having Monroe develop, downplaying the procedural part a bit. It raised some interesting moral conflicts.("Sometimes being a cop interferes with what you have to do" piggie tells grimm). If they could do 3 or 4 in a row like this one I'll be a believer.

I don't know what provider you're on, but if you have D*, the NBC VOD channel (which is 1000-something) has several episodes available. Better hurry, though. I don't know how long they keep them.

The 1st and 2nd shows are available on VOD.
Unfortunately, only in SD.
