Watched a bit of this and boy was it bad. Guess that's why there was no thread for it.

I won't be tuning back in.

I missed it, but the previews looked like "Home Improvement 2.0." Was it?

Tim Allen's Last Man Standing' Opens Well, Ringer' Rebounds
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - October 12th, 2011

Tim Allen proved his drawing power last night when his new sitcom, ABC's Last Man Standing, opened with an excellent 3.5/10 in adults 18-49 and 13 million viewers overall at 8 PM against baseball and CBS' juggernaut NCIS. Last Man Standing eclipsed Suburgatory as the highest-rated new comedy series on ABC this fall, and Allen did it all by himself, with no help from a lead-in, to give ABC the much needed anchor for opening a new comedy night. This was the most watched 8 PM comedy premiere in 7 years and the highest-rated in 18-49 in 5. The hourlong Last Man Standing was up 9% in the demo from the premiere of drama No Ordinary Family in the slot last fall and posted ABC's highest 18-49 rating in the 8 PM hour in 2 years. The comedy boosted the Dancing With The Stars result show (3.2/8, 16.6 million) to a season high, up 10% in the demo from last week. But the gains didn't carry over to the 10 PM hour where Body Of Proof (1.9/5) was down 2 tenths from last week's fast national.

CBS's NCIS (3.9/11, 18.9 million) was down two tenths in the demo but still rock solid and, with Fox's New Girl preempted for baseball, the veteran drama won the night in both 18-49 and total viewers. NCIS: LA (3.3/8, 15.4 million) and rookie Unforgettable (2.3/8, 11.8 million) was down a tenth each from their fast national ratings last week. CBS (3.1/8, 15.3 million) won every half-hour and the night in 18-49 and total viewers. Reliable data for Fox's coverage of Game 3 of the ALCS championship series will be released later today. NBC's The Biggest Loser (2.0/5) matched its fast national from last Tuesday, while Parenthood (2.1/5) was up a tenth.

Nice rebound for the CW's drama Ringer (1.7 million, 0.8/2 in 18-49), which was up 15% in viewers from last week and 33% in adults 18-49 and 18-34. The series could get an additional boost from airing repeats on Wednesday night starting today. (It replaced canceled reality series H8R.)

Which is why I liked it. I've missed Home Improvement so, I welcome this show in and will tune in each week until it is canceled.

Basically, instead it has 3 girls instead of 3 boys.

I thought so. I'll have to remember to schedule this show. Plus, I've always thought Nancy Travis is easy on the eyes - another reason to catch it.

We liked it. I've always liked Nancy Travis and she was given some really funny moments.

Did anyone notice whether the character of Kyle was played by a different actor in the second episode?

I guess I don't get it. Tim playing a grumpy old version of his previous character, just swap out the wife and kids and you have this show. It was tired then, it's a rotting corpse now.

This wouldn't be the first time a sitcom star "repeated" pretty much the same character-Lucille Ball and Kelsey Grammer being prime examples.

From what I've seen this isn't the sort of "one joke" show that Home Improvement was. There's a lot more potential for varying comedic situations involving the other characters, for one thing--they're a lot less one-dimensional than in the previous show.

I actually don't mind much if a show has a similarity to a previous one--tv is rife with shows that copy each other or previous shows. If it makes me laugh out loud, and this one did, I'll watch it.

I'm waiting for a Binford hunting rifle or some other such thing. Just as an "inside" type of joke.

Wife and I really enjoyed the show, especially the 2nd episode. Best new comedy we've seen so far this year. Much better then the New Girl.

been hearing a lot about this lately. Haven't seen it yet though. Heck HI was on quite a while ago. So I guess it's ok for TA to have another hit....even if it is similar to the original.

Very entertaining and enjoyable. Someone above characterized Tim as a grumpy old version of his previous character. I didn't find him to be grumpy at all. He seems like a pretty happy old guy to me with a great sense of humor.

I really haven't REALLY enjoyed a TV sitcom since Seinfeld. This has potential.

Didn't find it funny at all, also too much forced laughter, live audience or laught track, it was too much..

TV Notes
'Once Upon a Time,' Tim Allen get full season orders
By James Hibberd, EW.com's 'Inside TV' blog - November 3rd, 2011

ABC is giving out some happy endings.

Fairy tale drama Once Upon a Time is among three shows which just landed a full-season pickup at the network. The order is a bit unusual since only two episodes have aired, but Once is ranked as the highest-rated new drama of the fall, averaging 12.3 million viewers and a hearty 4.0 rating among adults 18-49. Plus, Once held onto its strong Sunday night premiere rating in Week 2 despite facing increased competition and that's very rare.

Here's two more shows getting nine more episodes from ABC:

- Tim Allen's new comedy Last Man Standing (averaging 12.7 million viewers and a 3.7 according to most current data which includes some DVR playback). Standing has had some ratings erosion since it premiered, but has given ABC a foothold on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

- And, yup, returning comedy Happy Endings (7.9 million, 3.5), which performed modestly as a midseason replacement earlier this year and has since blossomed in the fall.

Absent from the list: Pan Am (8.4 million, 2.8), which has been slightly below the line of what ABC wants to see on Sundays. ABC is ordering 5 more scripts for the show, but holding off on a pickup. With a new showrunner at the helm, the network is hoping the series will improve in the coming weeks (a press email this morning noted Pan Am is HUGE in Sweden so it's got that going for it).

Also: Last Man Standings less popular Tuesday night companion Man Up (7.3 million, 2.2) was left out.

Dany Delany's returning crime drama Body of Proof (11.2 million, 2.4) has been helping out ABC at 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, but the network has five unaired episodes left over from last season and therefore doesn't feel like it necessarily has to order any additional hours.

It's okay. This is one of these shows that should have been on the old Friday night lineup back when ABC had Full House and shows like that.

The laugh track is slowly wearing on me. Are there people who actually like this? A show with quality comedy should not need to prompt its audience.

I am warming to pirates though.

Bringing this thread up from the dead.

Just to post that the new live audience definitely helps, laugh track was annoying. This show is getting really good. This past weeks episode we were laughing out loud most of the episode.

Funny how they have almost written out the grandson. I'll bet they thought it was "something different" at first but perhaps wasn't working out so well. Will be interesting if they almost make him disappear for good.

Great show overall that I think will have some legs.

I agree. The show struggled at first, but now, in my opinion, it's now a first rate comedy. We love it and laugh out loud too. I hope it makes it back next season.

Funny you should mention this, my wife and I had the same discussion this morning after watching LMS last night, reminded us of DH where the kids disappear for weeks on end and then reappear as they are needed by the plot(we need kids like that) Oh that and what a hell of a house they live in Not only do they have a walk in closet, with art, Tim was sitting in a very nice leather chair in their bedroom(we barely have room to walk around our bedroom let alone have a chair of that size to sit in). Of course the rest of the house is no slouch either, leather furniture everywhere, art work and fully decorated over the rest of the house. Oh and that patio, 2 sets of tables and chairs that look like they cost >$1000 each! I'd sure like to have that fridge, my guess is it's one of those >$2k+ models. The only thing I wouldn't like about that house is it's electricity bill ever noticed how every light(including ones over all the artwork) is on all the time......
I never watched Tim Allen in his prior Home Improvements show but were really liking him in his new show(just havin' fun with the lavish house).

Well, he has a fantastic job that makes 6 figures easy.

As for the house, remember this is Colorado. A 3,000 sq ft house is dirt cheap. It ain't like Cali where a 900 sq ft dump costs you 600K.
