And Bohannan lost another chunk of his soul having to kill one of his few remaining friends. Thought that scene was very powerful, and the shootout in the previous episode was very "Peckinpah-ish" as Jim mentioned above. This has become such a good show on every level.
OTOH, I thought the Federal troops allowing Bohannan to execute their prisoner was a stretch. Wouldn't there have had to have been a trial, even in those days?

I hated to see Doc go .. and I'd guess there was a "Wanted Dead or Alive" out on him ..

This show still has "it".

Good action, a hint of unpredictability and Outstanding Picture Quality...

Too bad it broadcasts opposite of Boardwalk Empire..I like they have the encore at 10:00pm.

The only other new show I'm interested in this season, besides 'Revolution' and 'Last Resort', is the new Terry O'Quinn vehicle '666 Park Avenue'. What day does it appear? Why, Sunday of course. It's like the other 6 days of the week are the TV version of chopped liver for programming executives. rolleyes.gif

I used to hate all the Sunday programming when most of the Sunday shows I wanted to see were on one of the Big 4 networks. At the time I had a 2 tuner TiVo so I missed some stuff. These days though I have both a 4 tuner TiVo and more of the stuff I record comes from cable networks, which routinely rerun programming during the week, than from the broadcast networks, where programs are generally shown only once and then are gone for the foreseeable future. Hell on Wheels is a classic example of the benefits of the cable nets' liberal rerun policies.

I have a "D" DVR 2 tuner one. And sometimes have to do a little juggling to make sure I record the network shows I watch. I have my network shows at the top of my to-do list so they won't get skipped over.

And it's pretty easy on the cable networks to find a showing at a later time if needed.

You were saying???

By the way, did anyone other than me find it ironic that before Cullen and Lily "did the dirty deed" last night that the commercial leading into that segment was for Cialis? Something tells me Bohannon did just fine without it.

Hey Lily Bell got what she wanted, she needed Cullen running the show, so she did what she had to do and more than likely enjoyed it also. biggrin.gif

There is no doubt that Lily is using Bohannan but she is good for him. As convenient as it was for Lily to seduce Bohannan the fact remains, she would never have had the opportunity if Bohannan hadn't decided to stay with the railroad. I understand where Bohannan is coming from because Lily is adorable and he desperately needs to love and be loved again. Will Lily fulfill Bohannan's desires? Your guess is as good as mine.

I have always liked Hell On Wheels but this week's episode blew me away. Bohannan understands how similar he is to the deranged and now dead preacher, and to the Swede. That tortures him even more than he already was, which was a lot. The Swede is one of the all time great TV villains. He raises passive aggressiveness to a whole new level, as he has proved time and time again by skillfully manipulating people while continuing to survive, if not prosper, in a dangerous world.

I just hope Lily won't turn Bohannan soft.....(and I don't mean in the "intimate" way wink.gif)

The Swede is weird (as usual) and very compelling.

Agree that was another awesome episode. Anson Mount was great in a more subdued way. Guy's a Master Thespian! HoW doesn't need to be filled with violence to be terrific television.

Was this show nominated for a Best Drama Emmy? If not, that's just one more reason why that awards show is increasingly irrelevant.

I agree that Anson Mount has been wonderful as Bohannan. It's always refreshing to see an honest to goodness southerner cast in the role of a southerner. Mount was born, grew up, and was educated in Tennessee and it shows in Hell On Wheels. A lot of actors, particularly the Brits, have always been able to effectively play southern characters but there is no substitute for the real thing.

I don't think it would be eligiable for this year's awards show.

Anson owns this show, as it should be. He's been a great cast, along with Heyerdahl. Common, not so much IMO.

Although Common's performances have not been in the same class as Mount and Heyredahl's, I think he has done a commendable job, particularly compared to the semi-talented actors in Copper.

I'd agree that Common does not have acting chops at the highest level, he just does not have a wide emotional range .. I can't remember his name, but the guy Common fought that is the leader of the African / American gang should have more screen time .. he does an excellent job with what time he gets ..

Dohn Norwood plays Psalms, the head of the black gang. I agree that Norwood is a terrific character actor. His imposing size has added impact to his performances as Psalms.

not a fan of commons work so far

Anson mount is tweeting tonight that a season 3 is iffy cause of ratings. He's begging people to watch this week cause they got killed by the emmys last week

I think my problem with Elam (Common) is that the writers really don't know what to do with him. He's either a surly do-nothing 'security' chief or an endless piner for the gal he can't have. Both lines are going nowhere this season, and it doesn't help that Common's range is so limited.

..or, the third option is that he get's beaten down by someone or "shown his place" way too often for someone who should be as badass as he ought to be.

He only seems to have any juice when Bohannan is backing him up. Otherwise, he seems weak, which is not the way he came off early on.

Excellent episode as usual. Will next week's 2-hour season finale also be the series finale?

I enjoyed this week's episode of Hell on Wheels too. I thought Virginia Madsen as Durant's wife, Hannah, added a lot. She is a fine actress and Hannah is a piece of work. Thought the revelation that Bohannan came from a well to do family and that his dead wife had been the daughter of a railroad magnate created interesting possibilities. The strains between and the mutual dependency on one another among Bohannan, Lily, Durant, and Hannah are fascinating. I gathered from the preview at the end of the episode that Hell on Wheels would be beset by an attack from the Sioux in next weeks two hour finale. As others have observed, I hope next week won't be the end of the road for the show.

So do we think Durant offered Elam the job as Foreman? Meaning he's going to cut both Bohannan and Lily loose? The cad!

Next week's finale looks awesome! Can't wait... smile.gif ... and hope the wait for more won't be permanent. frown.gif
