Yay! No bug whatsoever on tonight's episode of NHL 36. Thanks, NBC.

Edit: Blargh. They just turned it on.

I think it's smaller, though, and definitely smaller than the Versus logo.

Anyone know what packages include this on dish network? I don't see it mentioned anywhere on their site, supposedly it's channel 151 which is not mentioned anywhere either.

AT250--It used to be Versus.

Is it just me or did they move the scoreboard graphic up ever so slightly?

Watching the Bruins - Devils game, and the SD channel on my system (Bright House Michigan) is a 4:3 center cut of the HD channel.

Yes they did.

Great! Looks better this way. I noticed that the scoreboard is cut off halfway now due to this on their telestrator they were using during the intermissions. Hopefully they fix overscan on the telestrator and don't move it back

P.S.: Blowout game tonight.

I almost really love the way these broadcasts are looking so far especially with no scroller on the bottom. I hope this continues when the MLS 2012 season starts on this network.
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 11:54 AM 01-05-2012
I don't think Versus ever used a ticker on their live broadcasts either, did they?
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 05:50 PM 01-08-2012
Anyone else getting picture dropouts on tonight's game?
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 05:44 PM 01-11-2012
They moved the scoreboard down again.

Anyone know of a contact where we can e-mail suggestions/complaints or whatever? Can't find anything.
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 05:44 PM 01-17-2012
I don't know what the hell they're doing, the scoreboard position changes game-to-game, guess it depends on production crew? I remember the Versus scoreboard being in different locations depending on the game as well. It's high up again on the Preds/Rangers game.

Does the gigantic NBC Sports bug on replays really annoy anyone else? I know they feel the need to mark every frame of video with some sort of crap, but that sucker needs to be cut down by about 75% and made a lot more transparent.

Definitely. It was smaller but they tweaked it and made it black, moved it into the 4:3 safe area, and made it larger. A tiny NBC peacock bug in the corner would be fine.

NBC's logo placement is consistent with the practices of other media organizations. Notice how the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network places a large red logo on their programming when anything important happens.

The reason why the broadcasters do it is simple. They get exposure for their network brand anytime a highlight is shown on another network's news broadcast. This way people will know who broadcast the original.

But then they would have to letterbox the SD feed! Think of the poor SD viewers!

On the plus side, it looks like they've done something to their broadcast as the HD looks sharper than it ever has...

Didn't stop ESPN from letterboxing the SD feed.

I was being sarcastic. NBC just launched a brand new channel, giving them a perfect opportunity to embrace 16:9. They did not.

The ticker crawl at the bottom is dumb.
But rescaling the vertical size so that it fits above the crawl is totally stupid!

They don't use the ticker during live broadcasts, so I'm ok with that. And they only "push" the picture up when the ticker would be blocking content behind it.

ESPN's is small and is semitransparent. NBCSN's is huge and opaque. As I said, shrink it and make it transparent and it will suck a lot less. It doesn't need to slap the viewer across the face to be effective.
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 05:57 PM 01-23-2012
They shrunk the bug on replays.
coyoteaz's Avatar coyoteaz 08:41 PM 01-23-2012
A good step in the right direction. Now just knock it down to 30% opacity and we'll really be talking.

In Detroit we got somewhat of a treat the other night, as our local FSN had exclusive rights to the Blues @ Wings game, so NBCSN gave us the TSN broadcast of Winnipeg @ Carolina.

happens all the time - NBCSN isn't exclusive every night for every team. (of course in previous years, i've noticed them show alternate OLN/Versus programming instead - alternate games have been more recent)

the original announced schedule shows this: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=72806

(It's going to really suck on 3/13 in NYC if TWC still doesn't have a deal with MSG)

Right, but I'm referring to getting a Canadian feed as opposed to one from a US sports net. Canadian networks do a unique job of covering hockey, IMHO.
charlie460's Avatar charlie460 07:52 PM 01-25-2012
Most of the games on NBCSN are exclusive this year.

Pleasantly surprised at the PQ of the San Diego St/Colorado St. college basketball game. I'd been watching ESPN college hoops most of the day so it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to a snappier picture. Nice work Peacock.
