69th Annual Golden Globes Awards on NBC HD

Live across the NBC Digital Television Network in all time zones, 8pm ET / 5pm PT
From Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California
1080i & DD5.1

By Todd Cunningham at TheWrap

The suspense surrounding the Golden Globe Awards is nearly palpable at this point.

No, not over who's going to take top honors for best film and TV shows; those questions will be answered in good time and the Hollywood pundits have us well-prepped on the possibilities.

The biggest question is how outrageous, rude and funny naughty boy host -- at least based on his emcee turn at least year's event -- Ricky Gervais will be Sunday night at the event's 69th edtion.

The answer will come starting at 5 PT/8 ET, when NBC begins its broadcast from the Beverly Hilton ballroom. The red carpet arrival show starts an hour earlier.

The buzz over Gervais, who showed no mercy in skewering Hollywood's best and brightest at the event last year, was reaching fever pitch at pre-Globes gatherings over the weekend.

And the Twitter-verse, as measured by social media tracking firm M Incite, confirms what most of us knew. "Excitement for Ricky Gervais" was mentioned in 26% of the conversations around the Globes last week. That was just behnd "General Excitement for the Globes," which was cited in 28% of the tweets. A distant third was "Support for Celebrity Nominee,' at 10 percent.

The results of the survey were taken from more than 7,000 Twitter messages posted from Jan. 10-11.

Considering the hype, very tame (boring) show. (They should let this show air on a cable channel uncensored). It felt like going to a party as the designated driver. A bunch of out of touch half blasted egotists partying hardy while rome is burning.

Best bit of the night.

I'm Seth Rogan, and I'm currently trying to conceal a massive erection.

Loved her reaction.

A squirrel has been eating my tomatoes, so I took my AK-47 and shot him with an armor-piercing bullet. Unfortunately, it also went through my neighbor's car and his neighbors SUV before being stopped by a propane truck filling his neighbors tank. Half of the neighborhood is now gone, but so is that damn squirrel.

With an attitude like yours I'm trying to figure out why you would even watch shows like this? BTW, where did you hear that Rome is burning?

I watched hoping to get a few laughs, see the Hollywood elite get roasted. Instead, the only real chuckle was the Seth Rogan one -- as mentioned twice here. It's a shame they muzzled Ricky.

Regarding Rome, perhaps a better metaphor would have been Sodom and Gomorrah.

Turned out to be a rather smooth fight to my thinking. Last year I thought Ricky wasn't funny rather rude... this year he was neither (to any degree). I'm guessing he was free to perform as he wished and for me it came across as Arthur II. Outside of Kate's take (award worthy).

horrible choices for the awards. whoever was the most renown in each category won. i mean who still gives awards to woody allen and how many silent movie genres have already won awards. do we still have to give them out when the whole silent movie thing has been completely overdone by hollywood. not one new or creative movie, show or actor won an award.

oh, but wait, this was french and it is the foreign press awards............

Yeah, you might be right. Sometimes I have to remember where I'm commenting. I'm in the AVS forum, chill. Save those comments for other places. But still disappointed with the show. BTW, what's up with Angelina and Madonna's arms? My fingers have more meat on them.

Yes, overall it was a little disappointing, but I hardly think anyone put a muzzle on Mr. Gervais. Perhaps it's hard to be stunningly hilarious all the time, as he was the first two times he hosted.

From a brief perusal of various sources, it appears a high percentage of the TV viewing audience liked his performance, while most industry observers didn't think he was very good.

One thing I did notice when watching the awards; Tilda Swinton could play David Bowie in a movie. That's Tilda on the left and David on the right.
