It was???

I played back my recording of the Twin 125's yesterday. Yuk! Picture was okay but the audio, in my case (Speed channel in D/FW via FiOS) had static in it the entire time, with some cases (i.e. interviews down on the track with drivers) being quite loud, but what angered the heck out of me was during that last lap wreck (won't go into detail) the finish line coverage seemed like just an afterthought. They spent too much time with the cameras covering and replaying the wreck and not enough on the live action coverage of the finish. It was very annoying.

Danica Patrick won the pole for Saturday's NNS race. Well I really think it's now going to appeal to a wider audience and bring more viewers to the table. Good going NASCAR/ESPN!

I hope it is a good weekend of racing, I really do. But, with the restrictions, overheating, pack racing, lack of grip on track, etc.... it may be just another series of accidents like last weekend.

Oh, and a 50% chance of thunderstorms on Sunday too.

Yup. 50% chance of rain, but cool temps so there shouldn't be any problems with overheating. My rants aside, yes I'm glad the season's getting under way again, and also hoping for good safe racing throughout.

ESPN won't take the bottom line off for the Nationwide races.
It should be off for all NASCAR events.

Overheating might actually be a good thing for this race since it would force them to spread out.

That is what I am hoping for, this way even if 2 drivers hook up together it will not last long with the pusher over heating in about a minute or two.

The vertical measurement of my 57 inch DLP TV is 28 inches. Two inches is taken up by the lower crawl, and 3 & 1/2 inches is taken up by the upper crawl and the static graphics. The actual view I get of the racing ends up being 22 & 1/2 inches. Rediculous.

Speaking of garbage, FOX has an annoying #DAYTONA500 below the FOX Sports logo and is putting a boring twitter scroll at the bottom of the screen.
This better go away when the race starts.

That makes me wonder what type of oil and tranny cooling schemes they are allowed to use to supplement the water cooling.

So, another Sunday and another NASCAR race, and wouldn't you know it, another rain-out, seems to be a recurring theme.

I think NASCAR needs to cut about 2 months from the season and also cut the race lengths by 100-150 miles, there's too many and their too long, and they wonder why viewer numbers are sliding downward.

?

From the Daytona 500 topic:

For the first time in Daytona 500 history, the race has been postponed. New plan is race start tomorrow at noon and FOX will still carry the entire broadcast live.

In general, it seems as if there have been a lot of rain delays and postponements of races over the past few years.

I'm disappointed at this particular postponement as my FOX station is an independent affiliate and they may decide not to carry the race tomorrow.

Considering that keeping a racing engine running for 500 miles now seems to be trivial (even the worst financed teams never seem to suffer engine failures these days), cutting the length of the races seems like a reasonable suggestion to me.

FOX is killing this race with commercials. This is the last time I try to watch one live. It's DVR and fast forward next week.

WNYW-DT NYC OTA & FiOS

The digital compression noise on the track is very annoying.
Just like the swimming dress on the NFL broadcasts.
Wonder why FOX and WNYW can't fix this?

Some decent concerts on HDNET so I'm switching over during the 1000's of commercials. KDFW in Dallas via FiOS.

Picture quality is just not good this week, check with Satellite feed and it is pretty close to what I am seeing OTA. There is over 100 laps to go in this race and I could care less about pit road right now. The cameras are switching all over the place and it is annoying.

That's the only way I can watch pretty much any sport nowadays, just delay watching an hour or so after it starts.

I think I jinxed the engine builders this season. I mention that no one ever seems to blow an engine anymore and now they've had more blown engines in two races than I recall seeing in entire seasons for the last few years.

It makes me wonder if it's because a few teams haven't quite gotten the fuel curve totally figured out for the new fuel injection system and they're blowing motors because they're unintentionally running the motors too lean.

Tony Stewart and his pit crew taking forever to restart the car due to his unfamiliarity with how to reset the new ECU box for the fuel injection was an interesting twist. I bet there's a lot of drivers and crew getting "refresher" courses on how to reset the ECU this week.

It reminds me of my first encounter with a fuel injected car. I was just finishing college and travelling for job interviews and I ended up with a fuel injected car for the rental car. Since I'd never driven a fuel injected car before, I did the same thing I always did to prime carburated cars, if it's cold, push the pedal all the way to the floor let off about halfway and hit the ignition, if it's warm, just push the pedal halfway down and hit the ignition. I finally had to resort to reading the owner's manual to figure out why the car refused to start.
