You've got that backwards, JJ leads by 2 points now. Ugh.

Yep, thought it was pretty funny when Jeffy came right out and said 'sure, I wrecked that sucker and he deserved it!'

I wonder if it will mean fireworks next weekend or if NASCAR told them to cool it or get suspended for some races next year. That's probably the only drama we're going to get now that JJ wrecked himself out of serious contention.

So far what I've heard is a $100,000 fine for Gordo, probation for the rest of the season ( rolleyes.gif ) and some (I think) owners points taken away. Haven't heard anything out of the Bowyer or Gordon camps though.

Bowyer's CC got slapped with probation and $25k fine for not controlling the other crew members and BK got slapped with probation and $25k for tweeting/having his cellphone in the car:confused:confused.gif. What the heck??? I think it's was because of his, umm, 'colorful' tirade to the media but Nascar didn't want to say that so they said it was for tweeting. But of course Nascar had no issues with it until this weekend rolleyes.gif. There's a good article on Nascar (and the Sunday events) in the WSJ today.

I'm a 'hooker' and a knitter. I guess that makes me bi-stitchual :). Crap I say

Nascar DID have a problem with BK having the cell phone in the car while on the track ever since the Daytona 500. They just couldn't come right out and say it. That was why they issued him a warning for the Daytona actions. However, their creative use of the rules to fine him in this case is interesting here. The lesson here is don't cross the boss.

They're saying that electronic devices are not allowed in the cars, presumably because they could be used for competitive advantage. It is odd that they didn't come out and say this publicly after Daytona however, I thought they liked the free tweet pub that Brad was doing.

I'm guessing that if Clint mixes it up with Jeffy next weekend there's going to be more than fines paid into next year.

As bad as the Gordon-Bowyer mess was, the thing that bothered me the most was the finish. They should have yellow-flagged it when Patrick spun out. That finished ended up being a very dangerous situation, with her dropping fluids and puttering down the front stretch. Nascar is lucky someone didn't get seriously hurt at the end of that clusterf***. That would have been on them.

NASCAR claimed that they didn't see the oil even though a lot of the drivers did. Danica had recovered from the spin and was down low on the track but it was too late, there was oil all over. Bottom line is that they blew it but I think it's because they really want to end races under green no matter what it takes - this was a split-second call and the fans don't like to see them throwing cautions for the win, so they thought if she was out of the way it was ok.

But yeah you're right it was dangerous, just like Watkins Glen finish earlier this year. They got lucky both times.

agreed... since they will throw cautions at any other time in the race when someone merely brushes the wall (or if there is a hot dog wrapper on the track)... rolleyes.gif and that's getting even worse as we get more long green flag runs... if there has been a green flag run that is either approaching the first pit stop of it, or has passed the first pit stop, you can almost be guaranteed that they will throw the yellow at any chance they get...

the whole "the race needs to end under green" philosophy is silly... it was an overreaction to a vocal minority to begin with, and it needs to go... it's artificial drama, and is completely unfair to the person leading the race when the caution flies...

i love nascar racing... but they really do try my patience at times...

It's not an overreaction from the minority, it's a demand by the TV networks for the sake of the almighty ratings. I've been a fan since the late 80's and I'm seeing the sport get ruined by network greed. That's MY opinion. We didn't have all this "artificial drama" back when Sunday afternoon Winston Cup racing was still only found on ESPN. I guess I'll have to go to a TMS race next year in the hopes that my faith in the sport may be renewed.
