When I first watched it Sunday night, I was disappointed. Maybe it was my mood. It seemed like the script depended on a plethora of F words instead of actual witty writing.

I watched it again last night, and found a lot more to like about it. I wasn't going to give up on it anyway, but now I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Tremendous episode tonight.

Love all the supporting cast.

The whole "sick bug" plot had me laughing. Funny stuff

I agree. The second episode was better than the first, and it perfectly exhibited the BS that occurs in politicking to reach the mainstream.

Jonah, played by Timothy Simons, is great.
His pride for working at the White house is something else

Timothy Simons is certainly a highlight on the show. The inflammatory exchanges between him and Matt Walsh are gold.

Timothy's mannerisms on the show sometimes remind me of Paul Scheer on "The League."

It was a brilliant episode. The "yoghurt" store owner and his mother chewed it up.

One of the funniest lines for me was:
"I'm standing over there like a f*ing meerkat."

I don't know if it had any hidden meaning, but I had an image of the long-necked creature standing there looking awkward.

TV Notes
HBO Renews Comedies 'Girls' and 'Veep' for Second Seasons
By Michael O'Connell, The Hollywood Reporter's 'Live Feed' Blog - Apr. 30, 2012

HBO has handed out second-season renewals for both Girls and Veep.

The freshman comedies -- which debuted April 14 and 21, respectively -- each will get additional 10-episode outings scheduled for 2013.

Girls, from creator Lena Dunham, had a somewhat soft debut of 872,000 viewers. Although the pilot episode has gone on to gross 3.8 million viewers to date, it has not shared the immediate success of Veep.

Armando Iannucci's (In the Loop) comedy about a powerless and slightly neurotic U.S. vice president, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, pulled in the network's most promising comedy numbers since the flagship Entourage took its final bow in 2011. The series opener earned 1.4 million viewers during its inaugural 10 p.m. ET broadcast. It has since grossed 3.7 million viewers.

With a strong lead-in from the also-renewed Game of Thrones, both Veep and Girls will complete their current seasons, airing at 10 and 10:30 p.m. on Sundays, through the summer.

Unlike HBO's other new comedy that gets worse with every episode, this one is getting better. Solid episode tonight.

I stopped watching the show "Girls" after the first two episodes. I found it to be so bad that I wanted to repeatedly punch a brick wall until I no longer could.

I stopped after one episode... O_o

But yeah, I'm liking Veep quite a bit as well. I can't remember exactly what it was but the daughter's crack on the White House dude made me lol hard.

This show isn't even funny. Now Girls is great IMO. I'm enjoying Showtime more lately than HBO and this has never happened before. Pulling the plug on Luck was a huge bummer.

These are just my opinions.

Agreed on both counts. Couldn't stand Girls. I hated it so much I quit after less than half of the first episode. Veep, in stark contrast, has really appealed to me. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a younger and far more more profane version of my sister in law, who also tickles me to death. The scene in this week's show in which one of the guys who works for the Veep fed her information in the reception line and how she used it had me rolling on the floor. It appears that the Veep's daughter, Catherine, is the only person close to the Veep who is willing to speak truth to power.

I watch them both but I Girls just easier to get into. Veep is much drier humor and it is taking me longer to appreciate. Most shows are weak in the pilots and pick up their pacing as time goes by.

I agree completely. Veep has that unusual combination for a comedy: brilliant writing and brilliant acting. All of the cast are outstanding. This week, I especially enjoyed the white-haired Senator (couldn't locate his character or actor name in IMDB or HBO.com, but I've seen him in many other things) who vehemently opposed having an oil insider on Clean Jobs.

True, they overuse the F word in an obvious way, but by comparison Girls is just disgusting to me. It was not funny at all.

And continued into the credits. I wonder if that was all improv between Buster and Julia.

Senator Doyle is played by Phil Reeves. He is no doubt a perfect selection for a bullheaded and quirky US legislator.

Mike McLintock with the movie references: Doyle is going "Black Swan" and "I'm eating everyone's s**t. I'm like the last guy in a human centipede with this." I couldn't stop laughing for 5 minutes.

Jerry. Just remember. Its not a lie . . . if you believe it. GC

Another genius thirty minutes. The display of political correctness concerns and the dynamics of agenda focus was perfect. And of course, there was Jonah looking ridiculous in those shorts.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus deserves a lot of praise for her amazing portrayal of the self-centered Vice President.

Good stuff.

I laughed hard during the metal show scene with Jonah. He was all pumped up and wasted. We got to see the "other side" of him.

I didn't fully understand Dan's true-fullness rant to the Veep. Was he just strung over from the previous night? Seemed like that came out of nowhere. Everybody has their "shock face" on afterwards too.

I think Dan is a conservative who somehow ended up working for a liberal politician. His appointment by the Veep as Devil's Advocate gave him the perfect opportunity to say what he really thinks of the Clean Jobs Bill. That his appointment had rendered him bulletproof made the scene even funnier.

I too loved the reaction of the weird, but funny, Jonah the POTUS employee at the heavy metal show. Timothy Simons, the tall actor who plays Jonah, is delightful.

I thought Dan's "rant" was all about making Mike look stupid and unprepared. I think it's been made abundantly clear that Dan has no ideology. He just wants to win, as evidenced by his about-face on the Clean Jobs Bill at the end of the episode before the tie breaking vote.

The characters from Seinfeld have bombed on everything the've done since. This should tell you that writing is everything. Larry David made all of them including Jerry. This show so-so and Elaine who has had the best career after Seinfeld isn't funny in this one.

These are just my opinions.

It seemed obvious to me (but I'm often wrong!) that she asked them to prep her on how to respond to tough questions about Clean Jobs. Dan simply did an outstanding job of it, which shocked them all, including Mike, whose own presentation was ridiculous by comparison.
