I seriously doubt it. She would have to have known is someone survived. Plus, she, or one of the others in her group, would have to have been extremely good at predicting the drift of any lifeboat. If that would have been possible, the searchers would have tracked the drift and found any survivors a lot sooner.

Mope, she is as surprised as anyone else that anyone survived.

Well, about 10 minutes in, we had severe weather and the local station broke in for the rest of the hour. And as CW does not see fit to show encore presentations, apparently, guess I'll have to catch this one online.

Wasn't totally thrilled with the pilot, but I'm willing to give this a try because I like the lead actor. I don't know much about the "canon" story of Green Arrow, but am a little surprised to see a superhero actually killing people. I guess there aren't many options when the chief "power" is shooting people. But there are a variety of trick arrows and shooting that can be done too. I mean, look at Hawkeye (from the Marvel Universe). I don't even know who the principle villains are in the comic series. As far as the show, it feels like we're gonna have a criminal of the week motif for a while, kind of like Alcatraz was.

Versus last week's strong series premiere, the second episode of ARROW held steady in A18-34 (1.1/4) and A18-49 (1.3/4), and rose 20% in M18-34 (1.2/4) and 15% in M18-49 (1.5/5). ARROW held 84% of last week's premiere in total viewers (3.5M).

Enjoying the show so far. I thought from the previews last week, when they showed GA fighting a woman dressed in black with an obvious blonde wig, that we'd get to see Black Canary early on. Unfortunately not. Can't wait to see this Dinah Laural Lance in fishnets.

The only thing I really don't like about the show so far are the voiceovers. It's almost like the writers don't think we're going to get what's going on. Feels like when they tacked on voiceover narration to Blade Runner -- like an afterthought.

I find most CW shows unwatchable since they are usually aimed at tweens. This one isn't perfect, but it's hitting enough notes right, so that I have hopes. Arrow guy, Steven Amnell, has a few chops. Bodyguard guy, is a fine actor as shown on Dexter and Blue Bloods...I'm thinking they'll make a fine team. The rest seem to be interchangeable CW faces (excepting Paul Blackthorne from the underappreciated SciFi series, The Desden Files) . There's enough edge, the backstory is intrigueing and they are starting to pepper in real quasi-supervillians (at least in the GA universe...which I'm not familiar with...he was just a wannabe when I was reading comics in the early 60s). Anyway, other than the been there done that characterization of Oliver/Bruce as the industrialist/playboy (somewhat overused don't you think), the rest is pretty interesting. I enjoyed the first 2 eps. and from what I understand, it gets better.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

I'm enjoying it so far. Attractive and capable cast. Following the Batman formula pretty closely, with the bodyguard standing in for Alfred, or Michael to Oliver's Nikita to reference another CW show. I'd love to see some superhero/supervillain battles a la the comic books rather than the stock evil-industrialist or weapons-smuggler cast of opponents we see on every TV crime show. And if they slowly develop the backstory mythology via island flashbacks (which they've been doing pretty well so far) this could evolve into a decent show. smile.gif

Rolling with the show so far. Starting to enjoy the flow and where I hope they are taking it. I figure in 3 or less episodes the bodyguard should know who Oliver is.

PS Glad to see Kelly Hu! Hope we get to see more.

I think he already knows. He knows Olliver is something special because of how easily Ollie can shake him and his uncanny skill at knife throwing. This green archer fellow has some serious skilz as well - coincidence? Then he asked Oliver "if he was going out tonight"...? Ollie says "definitely". They did everything but wink. I think it's pretty clear: Batman has his Robin and Robin is jiggy wit it. Henceforth, they shall be Team Green.

Halfway thru the new episode, the wife turned to me and asked "give me ONE good reason why I should keep watching this series?"
Unfortunately, I couldn't.eek.gif

This slavish (and leechish) teet-sucking on Nolan's trilogy is too much to bear.
In fact, it's almost comical.
Well, I hope CN is getting a check....

Not sure what you're getting at... I see a lot of people talking about Arrow being a ripoff of Batman... except, clearly none of them ever read Green Arrow comics... because MUCH of his origin is a ripoff of Batman. That ship sailed decades ago... and we're all stranded on Arrow's island where Ollie has a similar backstory to Bruce Wayne.

The time to complain was decades ago when DC kind of cloned Wayne/Batman into a slightly different Queen/Green Arrow comic.

If the main gripe is "too much like Batman"... and we apply to anything too much like something else... a whole lot of DC and Marvel characters go "poof" because of being too similar to other things.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

.
The comic from decades ago should have no bearing on this TV show.

Do you really think this was pitched as doing justice to 50 year old comic book?
I really doubt the network would have bitten.wink.gif

One could make the same case for IRON MAN. Gazillionaire playboy/industrialist creates amazing toys to battle crime. With a butler confidante (Jarvis, although it's been changed to a computer in the films). I like the show and find this incarnation of GA far superior to the SMALLVILLE interpretation.

If they had pitched a total re-imagining of GA, it wouldn't be GA. So the 22 people who remember the GA origin story would have been up in arms with the changes eek.gifmad.gif. That said, they are doing fine with the story. Sorry you don't like it.

My problem is the story is being done by the numbers.....nothing new, entirely predictable.

I'm not talking about a comic from 50 years ago... Today's comic Green Arrow pretty much has a similar feel to Batman in a lot of ways. That's just the origins of the character then AND now.

Exactly... so no point in those Iron Man movies, eh? wink.gif

100% exactly! IF they give him an entirely different origin and backstory, then why bother calling it "Arrow"... it's fine to tweak and change, but if it is going to be Green Arrow then it is going to be kind of familiar to Batman fans.

There were lots of surprises in Smallville... they took the basic Superman origins and tweaked the order of things along the way. They have already done this with Green Arrow.

I can't remember all the origins and status of Ollie's parents... but I don't remember a sister... and if there was one, he never called her "Speedy"... that would be his Robin-clone sidekick! So... there's one large plot diversion. The incorporation of Deathstroke? That seems different to me... The "my parents were doing bad stuff that my dead dad wants me to correct" angle is new... These are all things new to Green Arrow AND different from Batman, aren't they? Where is Nolan's Batman's sister? Where was the plot around Bruce Wayne's parents being secret criminals?

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

No question, he needs the VanGogh beard. Then, a simple eye mask would conceal his identity and there would be no need for that silly hood. Green Arrow with a hood -- it's ridiculous. Why, you might as well take Superman's cape away and give him a hoodie! It's sacrilege, I tells you!

I want to see the sister slowly transformed over the course of the season from a drug using party-girl into a female version of the comicbook Speedy! It would be a fun metamorphose to watch as she learns his secret and goes through a hardcore training regime. He could use a kick-butt female sidekick.

Well, he also has green paint for a mask. In addition, I seem to recall some past incarnations of GA wherein he wore the hood.

Well it only took one episode but the Bodyguard now knows. Great! Story is moving at a fast clip. The ex-GF saving both her men in a fight..precious. Wonder where they are going with that one.
Sister is a hot mess, I like the idea of her becoming a sidekick but I bet they will make her the head of the family. Sooner or later Mom's is going down and will take hubby with her.

Ok is it me or are they doing the most insane exercise of the week each episode?

I thought it was pretty insane of him to let the concrete blocks fall and shatter at the end of his workout. Now he's got to sweep up the rubble and go get more concrete blocks. Of course, maybe sweeping up rubble is part of his insane workout routine!

Thought they might have left the "is he or isn't he?" dance between Ollie and Diggs go on a little longer. So will Diggs now become his de facto sidekick?

They built up the assassin to be this bad-ass dude who tattoos his victims names on his body, then dispatched him so easily after he wildly shoots off around 500 rounds of automatic wrist ammo while standing out in the open like a.... well, a ringed archery target (and Ollie got a bulls-"eye", eh?) Waste of a potentially good villain, waste of perfectly good concrete blocks. Heck, being wasted might be the appropriate way to watch this show!

I'd like to see where the super-assassin was keeping all the ammo his wrist machine gun was firing.  It must be a mini belt load feeder hidden inside his shirt somewhere.  As already mentioned, for a super assassin he was pointedly easy to kill.  The show is still fun though.
