After the previous episode which was a relationshipperwreck I was just happy to get back to kicking people in the face instead of everyone longingly staring into their eyes and talking about dating.
But yeah, some weird stuff going on with the fight camerawork this week. The container fight sequence in theory would have been pretty good as a 360 battle but it felt like they forgot the steadicam and had to grab the nearest GoPro and swing it around. The mass battles are usually well done on this show (like the ship fighting or Ollie in his corridor battle) but I also think the character numbers are becoming way too high to manage them now. At least the stunt doubles for Laurel and Thea seem to have taken over. The show doesn't even attempt to clumsily insert an unconvincing action close-up of the actresses into their fight scenes now.
I can't decide which was more ridiculous, the bulletproof sofa on the previous week's Arrow, or bullets being deflected by a silver serving tray on SHIELD last week. Bullets which then go through any body armor worn by a bad guy.
Really though I hate Laurel more and more every week. The Canary Scream is just massively dumb, Laurel cannot fight and Katie Cassidy is unconvincing as Canary just walking around in costume. Come on Cisco, invent a sonic weapon that just works without having to watch Laurel look like an idiot. And then ask her to move in with you so we don't have to see her on Arrow.
Does anyone remember Tommy? That was back when a sacrifice on the show meant something. Now with Diggle's brother back from the dead the show is really undermining any sacrifice now. Even if the show makes light of "when is dead really dead in this town?" it's not only anticlimactic constantly bringing back supposedly dead characters but it's adding even more to the cast bloat. The show needs to start really killing some of them because even with Ray and Sara off to Legends there are still far too many heroes and villains to adequately service every week.
On the upside, the island stuff - while still pretty ridiculous how Ollie is just being accepted - has at least got slightly more interesting now the leader is some kind of magic dude and not just another militia heavy.
Still looking forward to the crossover though. The character numbers will be off the charts but at least it should be fun and I'm interested to see the setup for Legends and how Vandal Savage is portrayed.
