They're also conveniently ignoring the fact that Earth is the only habitable planet anywhere nearby, which is why the Omec ship was searching for the Votans for so long before locking in on radio transmissions from Earth. Nolan is effectively on a suicide mission.

Based on what? It looked like it created some sort of wormholes and went through them. Which is why it left rings behind and at the start it moved out of the solar system in progressively larger jumps.

It is science fiction after all.
