I'm seriously questioning whether this is HD. PQ from all angles looks very soft and some nasty artifacts when the cameras pan across the crowd.

Watching WEWS Cleveland OTA.

side by side is only 4:3 with lots of unused space.

WABC-DT NYC (1 HD and 1 SD Sub channel) FiOS

PQ is not good with WABC having an HD sub channel taking away bandwidth.
Motion artifacts on the cars and track.
Some camera shots are so soft they look SD 16:9.

Since it's ESPN on ABC it's formatted for 16:9.

All the on board cameras can be watched on ESPN3.

After seeing all the camera angles on my 50" screen, I'm convinced this is an SD broadcast. ABC's 720p is the worst in the business, but this softer than the softest 720p I've ever seen.

Thanks for this. The ESPN feed almost makes this an interesting race.

"Blacked-out" here in Indy, as always. By the time it does air, I'm normally too tired to care or watch. And I missed the "fly-over" this year; must've dozed off, 'cause I sure didn't hear it.

"I knew you'd say that"...*BLAM!*

That's why I root for Franchitti, I'll admit it.

I'm not a fan of Dario for the same exact reason--Ashley and her big melodramatic crocodile tears whenever he wins.

He's a decent driver, no doubt, but I'm more a fan of Dixon, Kanaan, and Castroneves.

Yeah Ashley has become a bit more dramatic lately, I remember when she was out there in the track with the lap information cartons..

That was Sato's race to win, he had the speed. Of course I wanted him to win since he is a former F-1 driver. Inexperience is what got him as he was faster than Franchitti. Have not watched the 500 in a few years. Satisfied with the broadcast overall.

Yeah, maybe only the side by side 4:3 screens get a bit annoying..

I thought Sato was going to pull it off for awhile. Being a former F-1 driver should give him somewhat of an advantage on road courses. I may have to check out the Indycars this year at Sears Point or Infineon, or whatever they're calling it now.

Sato had him all setup but he needed to wait til turn 3. But it's the last lap at Indy and some of the rationale thinking goes out the window. When he stuffed it into turn 1 I thought for sure he was going to wipe them both out and hand it to Dixon.

During his speech at the Victory Banquet he said... I'm a small guy but I still need a little more room... calling Dario out.

It's the last lap of the 500. I don't get people blaming Dario. You're not going to give the guy room in that situation. Everyone played nice up til then, but on the last lap the gloves come off.

Well the situation for Dario was.. I go to the gray and I wipe, he was borderline going there, he couldn't give Sato more room..

Sato should have waited.. we seen the passes at turn 3 all day, why he rushed on turn 1?

Was also Dario's risk, if there was a bit more contact both of them would have ended in the wall..

The only thing that saved Dario is it looks like Dario turned right a little when Sato started to come around that gave them enough seperation to miss.

Agreed.

It was a gutsy move by Sato, and I don't blame Dario for the wreck. He was just protecting his line. Even if Sato did pass him there, Dario may have passed him back on 3, where most of the passing was done all day.

Exciting finish 2 years in a row.

That's the issue (possible debate) he was blocking...

9.3.Additional Provisions and Guidelines
B.Blocking – A Driver must not alter his/her racing line
based on the actions of pursuing Drivers or use an
abnormal racing line to inhibit or prevent passing.
Blocking will result in a minimum of a black flag “drive
through” penalty.

Clearly he altered his line and it simply comes down to how closely you want to enforce the rule. Whether one agrees with the rule being in place is another matter. Given 2012 they have altered their outlook (to some degree) which pretty much allows what Dario did...

“That doesn’t mean I’m allowing this to be wide open with dangerous weaving. I’ll deal with dangerous moves, but the defensive-type moves that people I think are more accustomed to are basically being restored to our kind of racing.” — Beaux Barfield, President of Competition and Race Director

You don't have to wait until then. They are at Belle Isle this weekend, reviving the Detroit Grand Prix.
