WNBC-DT (1 SD Sub Channel)

Thank goodness that annoying animated fuse is not being used on the live bug this year.
Would be nice if the bug was semi transparent but I'll take the solid bug over the animated fuse.
The fuse animation is being used again on the lower thirds.
During the two taped Kenny Chesney performance the announcer talked over the ending promoting the next performer which was an odd editing choice.
They could have waited for him to finish the song.

Audio seems to be simulated DD 5.1. On the live segments with Regis his mic and the production music are in the center channel.
On the taped performances I'm hearing the vocals and instruments in the center channel and instruments on the L & R and surrounds.
For the fireworks everything is in the center channel. There's a little audio in the L & R and music in the surrounds.

The music selection for the fireworks is much better this year.
Less pop and more traditional songs.

My only complaint is there is no need for the live bug.

I'm guessing like last year the live bug is going to be on the rebroadcasts.

NY used to have the greatest Independence Day Fireworks show but they are way down on the must see list these days. Too spread out, too choreographed and not very exciting. And who's the smart one who decided to park the barges on the hudson river and put the cameras main point of view on Manhattan. Who needs to see New Jersey as a backdrop?? The great NY skyline is used as a tripod

I thought we were cool de la?

One of the barges seemed to be missing quite a few shots this year. I'm not expecting them to be perfectly in sync (although somehow, Boston's seemed to be), but it seemed to be missing some of them ENTIRELY.

Pretty bad viewing experience, IMO. A lot of poor camera work. A lot of the cameras are either out of focus or are actually SD. Hard to tell. Seems rather embarrassing to see this in 2012 when your average sporting event has amazing quality.
