I don't have a problem with him either, he's just part of the cast.

I like the show, and Rusty doesn't bother me as much as he does some... but I think the real problem this show is is an abundance of characters.

When The Closer started, everyone was new... so we had a lot of time to get to know everyone... but Major Crimes comes in with everyone (except Rusty and the new girl) being well-established. That makes it tough to give everyone something meaningful to do week after week... and it seems like they still want to feature everyone every episode. I think the show might be better if they constructed stories that left some of the characters in the background week-to-week... not because I don't like them, but because it would make the episodes that feature them more meaningful.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

Even if Rusty himself draws no interest, he is valuable in how the other characters interact with him. Otherwise it's a run-of-the-mill cop show (if a well written and acted one).

I think Meta Humans or Time Travel are more possible than a Police Captain taking home and raising a stray found on the job.

This week was a wierd episode. It felt like a different show. The heavy action element and all the new characters getting major screen time had me thinking the show was going to move in a different direction, but as it went on I had a different thought and that this was a backdoor pilot. It appears according to rumor that might be true and Fritz might be getting his own show. I would assume Laurie Holden and the SWAT guys will be joining him in "Action Crimes"or something.

I did really like all the very believable tech porn and lipstick cam shots, but with all that and the new characters I had almost no idea what was going on this week. Why the guy took the kids, why the old couple were in WITSEC and what the new command unit was there for just became a big blur.

I really enjoyed it. The use of the helicopters and the GPS trackers, especially. Did they say they were under their badges? Julio commandeering the ice cream truck was great too. They really seem to like to make the prosecutors the fall guy (or gal) except for the one that was on last week. She is more on point with the unit. That was also quite a shot Fritz took at the end, but why was he the ONLY FBI agent on site with a kidnapping?

It was a very good episode and nice change of pace. I am though getting tired of frequent tension between the MC unit and the DA's office or other administrative staff. These folk seem to serve a function similar the Globetrotter's Washington Generals.

It almost seemed like a "Backdoor Pilot" type episode for that other Blonde's Division ....

I mentioned to my wife in the first 10 minutes that this was a pilot/test balloon for a new series, especially as there was not the usual heavy interrogation. Loved Fritz's take down. Sort of took care of any need for a confession.

I will say this... as far as potential back-door pilots go... this was pretty good. I typically find these sorts of things forced, even if I like the "pilot" it seems so completely out of place and weird that I'm soured to it because it interrupted my regular show that week.

But while this did feel different, hence the thoughts on pilot-potential, it was still mostly a Major Crimes episode. There are probably a lot of people who could take a lesson out there on this sort of thing. They did a good job of mixing in the new/pilot people with existing characters and giving you the impression that these people were "there" all the time and we just never saw them. It didn't feel like characters just invented this week... it felt more established than that.

I don't know how an actual spinoff would do in the ratings... but I would give it a shot based on this episode.

I laughed from nearly start to finish watching this episode. I thought Luke Perry played his part to near perfection.
