The final Grand Slam Tennis tournament of the year. Aug 27- Sep 9. National Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows N.Y. ESPN and CBS.

Watching a first round match between Federer (1) and Young. My pet peeve of the US Open coverage -- it is not photographed correctly! The lead camera is zoomed too wide (compared to Wimbledon on the BBC) , too much dead space around the court. There's not enough detail. Often times I need to stand/sit closer to my TV to see what's going on.

I do have a theory as to why they are doing it this way -- they put the scorebox on the bottom left, so as not to block the board on the far end showing the names of the major sponsors. The lead camera needs to zoom wider than at Wimbledon, allowing the scorebox to be imposed onto the area just below the near baseline. I think this HAS to be reason, there is no other reason I can think of. This is not the fault of ESPN (it applies to CBS as well), it is the fault of the broadcast crew that's producing the entire tournament.

I didn't notice that before, but it sure is. Can you do something 'bout it?

I'm just an ordinary viewer, I have no connection to CBS, ESPN or the host broadcast crew. Let's hope somebody over there monitors this thread and come up with a solution that makes everybody happy (or happier). The more I think of it ... having the scorebox on the top left (like Wimbledon) would not make any of the tournament sponsor happy (It certainly would not make Emirates Airline happy -- one of their two signs would be blocked most of the time).

So it's about money as usual... Doesn't surprise me but surely disappointing!

I wonder why the court is not centered though. I'm not sure if it's always framed like this, but your screen capture is a rather familiar image from US open.

This issue aside, I'm really excited about this tournament. Djokovic seems to have come down to the earth. Murray showed that he can step up his game in a big match. Federer is Federer, and these 3 players seem to be very competitive at this time. Can't wait for the last couple of days of the tournament!

As they do for the other tennis tournaments on ESPN2 the live bug needs to be at the bottom right above the ESPN2 bug and semi transparent.

That's great! She's my favorite women's player. Sucks to see her out so soon. Really enjoyed watching her play in the US Open Series though and great for her to win in Cincinnati.

Disappointed that CBS's primetime coverage is on CBS Sports instead of the national channel. At least the matches will be available online but still.

same here.....CBS Sports is showing the rutgers-tulane game on their network, which isn't even in hd on fios!!! Crappy audio too. I'm sure I'll watch the replay tomorrow morning on SNY as they have the rights to show Rutgers home and away games. BTW, the audio reverb issue that plauged this year's Oscars is also evident on the CBS audio side. Still real 5.1, very low volume compared to a few years ago, but has some tinny noise.

I did not know CBSSN had coverage of the US Open.
Figured it would be ESPN2 and Tennis Channel.
Sucks not having CBSSN HD on FiOS.

Saturday prime time is not on CBS Sports Network. Coverage is on Tennis Channel and they are on early covering the afternoon matches that did not finish or start when CBS coverage ended at 6pm ET..

http://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/us-open-coverage

The PQ on Tennis Channel is not good.
All video is edge enhanced and macroblocked.

Yea my mistake. I realized later after posting that the Tennis Channel had the primetime coverage tonight. Oh well at least the streaming from the website is decent enough.

tennis channel also has 2.0 audio rather than 5.1 that espn and cbs had.

Am I correct there is no 3D coverage this year?

ESPN2 still has the live bug on the top right.
It needs to be moved to the bottom right.

I'm watching the Giants game on DIrecTV and see via its sports update feature that the match involving the #1 women's player if over, yet when I turn over to ESPN it's still in the third set tiebreaker. Why is ESPN delaying the telecast?

They're showing matches from earlier on today, since play has been suspended for the night due to rain.

And Wednesday doesn't look too promising, 80% chance of rain.

More rain today........court's being dried as i type this.

If a movie or concert video or a TV show isn't on blu ray it darn well should be.

U.S. Open extended to Monday for the fifth straight year. According to this, there may not be any more Super Saturdays. No rest days between Semi-Finals and Finals..... good for TV, good for fans, but bad for the players.

Here's an idea. Put a friggin roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium instead of building another facility.

If they are willing to shell out the money for another facility, they certainly could retrofit a roof over the main stadium to avoid this from constantly happening.

A roof already!

Does anybody remember what time they switched to ESPN during men's final last year? I think they did the same thing last year (4pm on CBS) and then switched to ESPN2 (right?) at some point. Does anybody remember what time it was? I want to set up my DVR. TIA.

Nearly 9PM, still going on !

The question is, will CBS pull the plug on the victory ceremony once the match is over? This is a monumental match, they should recognize this!

Great match - one for the ages. Funny article linked there - the last bit about book-ending a seconds long program bit with full commercial breaks is something I used to see all the time with local "regional sports" contracted shows. But cutting off live sports when it interferes with scheduled programming is pretty normal. Makes me crazy - they pay all that money to broadcast something, then abuse the folks that tune in, like someone waiting for the next show can't wait 5 more minutes. Waiting is passive, but a viewer of the current show is actively involved so is much more offended by the jarring hammer blow of the program ending early seems to me.

Unless it's football of course - then they drag it out as long s possible smile.gif

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.
