I can't see any good way to shoehorn Holmes' father into the show as a main character. Personally I'd rather see an outsized villain or two - something to bring out a Holmes who is more than just another Monk or Castle...

Perhaps I'll resume watching this series.

Perhaps I misremembered.

Anybody still watching? The last few episodes have been putting me to sleep even faster than usual - the energy level is almost nonexistent. All the hype about Noble joining the show this season and he's been on screen for a total of about 5 minutes so far...

Yeah, the thread has been really quiet. I still really like the show, though, and thought that this week's episode was very entertaining. Sherlock and Watson's relationship is unique on television, I think. Although, they like each other very much and have a lot of chemistry it's asexual. I give high marks to both Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu for their portrayals of the detective and his loyal assistant. In some ways, I like Elementary as much as I do Sherlock.

Miller's quirkiness as Sherlock and Liu's silent but powerful reactions does it for me. The talent and chemistry these two have.

He was certainly less than thrilled at the start of this episode though.

Yes, absolutely I'm still watching. Not falling asleep, either. And, you can't have EVERY episode be Sherlock v Daddy...

Good point. Although Sherlock and Joan have determinedly avoided any sexual encounters, there have nevertheless been hints of attraction between the two. The latest, of course, came when Sherlock reacted angrily because he suspected that Joan and Detective Bell had become involved with each other. That kind of tension is one of the things I think makes the show so much fun.

It's definitely an atypical relationship for network television between Sherlock and Watson. The show wrote itself into a corner when they made Moriarty the love of Sherlock's life. It worked when she was around but they've decided to keep the focus on Sherlock's detective skills.

Elementary works better when they are solving mysteries, anyway. I've found some of the recurring character development arcs less than worthwhile.

I'm still a fan, and still enjoy it. I, for one, am glad it's not another opposite-gender-partners-end-up-falling-in-love type of show.

I've never seen Miller in anything else, but he does a bang up job as Sherlock.

Very good actor. The last American TV he did was Eli Stone...an American lawyer who has a brain aneurism that allowed him to see visions from God...sort of a dramedy that was quite good though it didn't last. His character couldn't have been more different than Sherlock.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

Yes, he was good in that (Eli Stone). At the time I didn't know he was British.

Funny that Sherlock solved 3 cases in a matter of a few hours that the FBI detective spent a career trying unsuccessfully to solve.
