I loved Eli Stone. It's one of the only TV series that I've ever bought the DVD sets for and still watch once a year. Miller was outstanding as the lead character and as Sherlock, a character who is light years apart from Eli, he is equally as good.

Just realized this was on again.

Dear CBS, I wish you would make a Roku channel without requiring the $6/mo bit that I am not going to pay. I am not sure why it is more beneficial to force me to use the computer for the five free episodes of this and TBBT. I stopped watching NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, and haven't really entertained starting any other show on your network because of it.

You know, I got one of the Homeworx ones to try out. But, it turns out that CBS is the one channel that I get poor reception with (1st floor apartment surrounded, so not a lot of options there). Not going to pay into the cable + DVR + HD, since they stream it for free -- just frustrated that CBS is the one broadcast network I can't get on the Roku through Hulu or in CW's case, straight from them.

PlayOn might be worth a look - I assume the Roku would be able to connect to it. Or use it to record from CBS.com - I think most any media player could play the MP4 file...

I just watch with their cbs app on Android and just mirror from my phone to the tv. Otherwise I watch for free just plugging directly to the wall.

CBS works very hard to make sure your DVR is largely useless Sunday night by not allowing some disposable buffer post-game programming in their schedule that they can dump if needed. I've taken to recording an extra 90 minutes past the scheduled end of Sunday night shows to make sure I don't miss part of a show.

Yes CBS sucks if you can't watch the show live (and even a little bit then )

Unfortunately we have 2 or 3 CBS shows

Other nights CBS is okay. Sunday night is the problem night. Here CBS has the best OTA picture quality. I have 2 Sunday night CBS shows though.

They didn't make this Sunday's 'predator of predators' complex enough--even with the mishmash of computer manipulations. Maybe if they could toss in some Russian hacking/manipulation going on at the same time. And toss in Sherlock's father shipping him, through the police captain, a Thanksgiving roasted turkey.-- John
Edit: Managed to DVR the show by starting recording near the end of Madam Secretary, then setting the end point for 120 minutes later. Then, for kicks, signing off 15 minutes before Elementary's ending.

As posted in Hot Off The Press, the Masters went long, so they pre-empted it. Canada still got to see it as it airs a lot earlier there. Plus savvy U.S. viewers know where to find it. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Sunday to see it.

And note for Tivo users.....when this happens, often times Tivo won't record if you have yours setup for NEW episodes only, because the OAD(original air date) might have last weeks date, in which case Tivo thinks it's a repeat. This might not happen but you'll want to check your Tivos To Do List or bring up the guide and make sure Elementary had a check mark next to it.

I do that too, though I think I only do an hour.

I know some people record the next show, but the issue I've found with that is if the next show gets dropped or is changed out for another show - or even a repeat, you still miss it. I have enough tuners that I can pad the end, especially since there's usually nothing I record after prime time other than a few random cable shows where the DVR picks up the re-air.

Might I suggest setting up a manual recording for a huge chunk of Sunday PM programming. This frees you from any guide related network shenanigans and any DVR conflicts.

It doesn't account for programing changes for the other shows you've set up, including times when those other shows might be repeats and wouldn't record.

I'd say you have far more chance of encountering "guide related shenanigans" recording multiple shows than if you just extend the recording for Elementary. The only thing you have to worry about is a tuner conflict, but you'd run into that recording the whole programming block, too. A recording is a recording regardless of how you set it up.

Interest in this show really died out, didn't it? I wouldn't still be watching if Jonny Lee Miller wasn't so great. The gang infiltration storyline was lame. The show should have killed off Joan a long time ago. The writers have been struggling to fill the 42 minutes each week with ancillary character subplots when Holmes should be in almost every minute of the show. The conclusion to the Season 1 Moriarty storyline landed with a thud, but the show hasn't been close to as interesting since. And Sunday DVR difficulties didn't help matters. Would anyone have cared if the show had been canceled?

Like you, I watch it only for Miller. Also-the story lines should be more about the investigation of the crimes--not "human interactions". I've never cared for Lucy Liu in any acting role. Someone else should have been cast as "Watson", IMO. If the story writing carries on as it has for the last season or two---no, I would not care if the show is canceled.

On a side note--at the beginning of this last season, Miller had shaved his head. Any knowledge of why he did that? Successive episodes showed his hair growing back to it's "normal" length. Just curious.

Very similar shows in that regard, though I gave up on Blacklist after two seasons.

He shaved his head to film the sequel to Trainspotting, just released (I think?)
