Thought I'd be the first to start this off - The new Sherlock Holmes CBS show staring Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu, Aidan Quinn (Thursdays at 10 pm)

My initial reaction --"Meh". Anything pales in comparison to the BBC production. I might watch, but I'm burned out on tattooed, drug addicted, lost soul characters.

Me on the other hand .... I love tattooed, burned out, lost soul (leave out the drug addled) characters. Add in a British accent and you have me at hello!

Thats fine, but why call the character Sherlock Holmes? Because you have no faith in your own premise?

Lucy Liu kills it for me.

That and its being a procedural. Even the BBC Sherlock, which is good as far as procedures go, kind of lost me in the second season. It wasn't worse; I just lost interest.

To each his own. I'd watch anything Lucy Liu is in. I've liked her ever since Ally McBeal.

I rarely watched Ally McBeal, but the one shining moment I remember was Lucy Liu's character telling a guy in a wheelchair to get out of her way saying "it's bad enough you guys get all the good parking places!"

Believe it or not, I remember that line as well. My wife still watches Ally McBeal reruns on the Reelz Channel.

Wow. For me, 'A Scandal in Belgravia' was as as good as television gets. Hence the 13 Emmy nominations.

I gave this one a chance last night and really enjoyed it. JLM was excellent on his take of the character and Lucy Liu more than pulled her weight. Of course, it could get old fast if the writing gets stale, but I'm in for a few. First time in a long time for JLM with his own accent and except for his Dexter role as a semi-big bad, an edge.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

CBS TIME COMPRESSED THE HELL OUT OF THE PILOT

I've just discovered that CBS time compressed the pilot by two minutes. I knew there was something wrong with the video, so I did some digging.

The pilot runs about 45:30 and what CBS aired runs about 43:30.

Idiots. The better plan would have been to scrap two minutes worth of promos, or commercials, or a mixture thereof.

I think they did the same thing with Vegas. Something was seriously wrong with the video cadence, thought it was maybe just my local affiliate. Will not be watching either show now. Good job CBS.

Amen! I have the Sherlock A Scandal in Belgravia episode on BD and have watched it several times. It is one of my all time favorite TV episodes, no matter the series. I loved luscious little Lara Pulver as the luscious and brilliant queen of the dominatrixes, Irene Adler, and fully understood Sherlock's fascination with her. That said, I think that Elementary got off to a great start. Johnny Lee Miller was wonderful as Sherlock and Lucy Liu was, as usual, nothing less than perfect. Any Sherlock Holmes story depends far more on its characters to retain our interest that it does the Mystery of the Week and Episode 1 of Elementary delivered in spades. I am on board for the foreseeable future.

I'll look into it. No promises.

As for not watching because of this, the pilots were produced a while ago, so i expect all upcoming shows to be edited to length and not require time compression.

For me it was a very solid "Meh". No season pass, I might tune in if bored and not in the mood for anything I have DVRd, but that is unlikely. Holmes came off as a hyperactive child, I did not buy Miller as Holmes for an instant. Hate the tats, actors should really think 4 times before doing that to themselves, big turn off for me.

I have to agree about the BBC production, it does not get better than that. Can't wait to see how they come back from the ending.

Pretty much the sentiment in my household. We'll try another episode or two before deleting the season pass.

The baseball bit at the end took Sherlock into the Superhero realm which signaled that the writers are going to be severely limited in the ability to come up with good Sherlock deductions.

Holmes as written by Arthur Conan Doyle was hyperactive and sometimes drug addled. Brilliant, yes, but also unstable and often decidedly unpleasant. I thought Elementary's writers captured all of this nicely. Showing Holmes warts and all has been a big part of the BBC Sherlock's magic so I think the elementary showrunners made a good decision in not making Holmes too much of a hero.
