In a change from previous years I will only be posting a weekly thread for the NFL games instead of separate threads on game days for FOX, CBS, and Primetime games. This will keep all NFL discussion in one place and make it easier to manage the NFL threads.

The coverage maps for week 1 have been posted for the games on CBS and FOX. All games will be in HD with 2 games on NBC, 2 on ESPN, 7 on FOX, and 5 on CBS.

The maps and all the hard work of putting them together were done by J.P. Kirby, more information can be found at his website, http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/

Maps

Thanks for the update homcom. You do a fantastic job of setting up these NFL threads. I applaud your decision to have just one thread for each week of the NFL, as opposed to an individual thread for CBS or FOX. I would assume this also covers games on ESPN & NBC. With that said, the DAL/NYG game looks great on KNSD via Time Warner Cable in San Diego.

And the FOUL!

Yep, one thread for all games CBS, FOX, NFL Net, ESPN, and NBC. I'll review after a few weeks to see if any changes need to be made. The declining number of posts in the individual threads plus the time commitment to post all of those threads makes one thread per week the right decision especially with me traveling more for work lately.

That's weird - why does Birmingham (and not the rest of Alabama) get the lower-tier Carolina/Tampa game when Atlanta gets the national SF/Green Bay? Atlanta is NFC South, and yet they made New Orleans watch it but not us.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you, I'd much rather see SF/GB. Just curious about that area of AL that doesn't have a team and yet gets the crappier game instead of the national.

Fortunately Directv is giving week 1 to everyone or else I'd miss the best game of week 1 (SF-GB).

Whew...I dodged a bullet.  Berman is on the late game on Monday Night.  I thought sure I'd be subjected to his lunacy during the Ravens game.  There is a God.

The main crew always does the early game while the sub crew the late game.

At least they are home for both games.

Their "A" team can play the pats while the "B" team plays the fins.

Miami@Houston is correct.

It's New England @ Tennessee.

That's the only reason I can think of. Birmingham coverage gets real close to strong Auburn territory. The DMA that covers Auburn is out of Columbus, GA. Don't know if there are "issues" there being a GA DMA.

Since DirecTV lowered the price of the Sunday Ticket for this year, I went ahead and jumped on it so I can see the games I want to see. Not very many good early games this week.

As usual, only early games in week 1 on CBS because of the US open. So no early FOX game in NYC. Good thing they picked this week. The early FOX games don't look too appealing anyway.

As Berk said, wrong area of AL - that's Bama territory, not Auburn (although partisanship is statewide, I know). It would've made more sense to me if it was Montgomery and Columbus, not Birmingham.

And also, they are sending it to NO but not ATL? Why do they think NO would want that game and not us, we're both in the same division.

How is New Orleans getting a game on CBS while the WSH/NO game is being played at the same time in the early slot? I thought that there can't be another game competing against the home team at home.

Because CBS has no late games Week 1 to air the US Open final. Therefore, CBS has to be able to air a game at 1:00. That's why markets with home teams on FOX at 1 will still get a game from CBS that day.

Which makes it somewhat interesting that Fox can't do the same thing to balance things out.

Really it is balanced though:
fox - 8 weeks 2 games / 8 weeks 1 game.
cbs - 8 weeks 2 games / 8 weeks 1 game.

otherwise it would be:
fox - 8 weeks 2 games / 8 weeks 1 game.
cbs - 8 weeks 2 games / 7 weeks 1 game / 1 week 0 games.

talking affected markets obviously.

you're looking at it the wrong way.

Fox is the doubleheader network - they get 2 games, except in markets that has a home game on the singleheader network.

the 1pm fox home team markets aren't supposed to lose a game - they just normally get a 4pm cbs game out of local ratings convenience. This half of the blackout rule isnt set in stone.

I'm not saying Fox should lose a game. I'm saying that for week 1, Fox should be able to show games against CBS home market teams since CBS is allowed to do that to Fox games simply because CBS has a previous commitment to the US Open.

Why should the New Orleans Fox affiliate have to compete with CBS when they would otherwise not have to? Meanwhile WCBS in NY airs against no Fox game. Seems one sided.
