One-When they fly job applicants in for an interview they liked to fly them in at night and out at night because that made it harder to see the smog. Two-That where people on the east coast tend to think of going somewhere in terms of distance, people in LA tend to think of it terms of time and route.

I've been back to LA many times since then and the smog is much improved as is the traffic. In fact, it is my favorite city to visit in the US. Nonetheless, I think The Californians skit is pretty funny because I realize that it's the east coast comedy writing team of SNL making fun of the west coast.
I think most people got the joke, they've been beaten over the head with it repeatedly. It's more of an observation than a funny idea for a recurring sketch.

<----add another one to the list of people who lived in CA and thinks "The Californians" is awful.

Add another one who used to live in CA and thinks "The Californians" is pretty funny. But it was funnier when Kristen was around.

I am fully expecting SNL to lead off this weeks show with a parody of Rubios state of the union rebuttal complete with sweat effects, going to his mouth, mushmouth, and jugs of water. Should be funny.

... of which we haven't had in a while.

The Californians is simply not funny, regardless of having lived in California or not.

Well we did have a great skit recently with the sopranos in 80s high school which is kinda NY/NJ.

My favorite ever was a NY talk show & i think monica from friends was 1 of the hosts.

The bronx beat skits with the bridesmaid & parks/recreation chix are great too.

But the cali skis also funny cause of all the blonde hair, the generic spanish maid, the fascination with wacky food, the exotic chairs.

It seems as though it's basically just an opportunity to show how the cast can contort their faces to a farcical extreme. It was funny... once. Now? Just tiresome.

better show last saturday.

one thing this show has demonstrated over the years is to not give up on it.

when they get stale, lorne's pretty good about shaking things up and bringing new talent in.

kate and cecily have been most welcome additions to the show.

This week gets a pass if for nothing other than "Djesus Unchained". Probably one of the funniest pre-taped sketches this season.

About 15 minutes in it started getting really funny, plus Alabama Shakes was quite good. The last half hour was not as funny as it frequently is, but I thought it was a good show, all in all.

Show was funny quite a bit, and bad at times too. Nasim in that tight little dress during the monologue was amazing.

I love Christopher Waltz as an actor but I thought he fared poorly in the show. I just didn't find him that funny.

The best bits were the Djesus Unchained and Fox & Friends. Everything else was pretty bad.

the retractions they run at the end of each fox and friends is some of the consistently funniest stuff they do.

Kind of like the old "Mad Magazine" Don Martin cartoons, where you'd stop and scrutinize each frame for all of the little buried treasures he'd drawn. They were hilarious.

Well, nothing pleases everyone, and everything has a critic. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/17/djesus-uncrossed-on-snl-spoofs-tarantino-in-christ-revenge-fantasty_n_2706814.html

Breitbart wasted no time in branding the sketch as "controversial" only hours after it aired. World News Daily called the video "obviously offensive," and made an argument echoed by several HuffPost commenters and readers, that a similar parody involving the Prophet Mohammed would not be tolerated.

But the sketch received attention from beyond the right-wing media. The Los Angeles Times questioned whether the sketch was "the most blasphemous in 'SNL' history."

At least one publication "gets" the humor:
Quote:
Slate took a slightly more optimistic view, calling the sketch "one of their more amusing bits of blasphemy in quite some time."

I'm definitely on the side that this was probably one of the funniest sketches they have done in years. Easily in my top 10 since 2010.

Easily the highlight of the show, although Weekend Update was an improvement over last week's.

And Nasim in that dress, as others have noted. My goodness!

I thought it was pretty weak. Kevin Hart played Kevin Hart in every sketch. He's funny but I dunno about on SNL. I chuckled a few times. My favorite sketch was probably the second appearance of the 2 people thinking they are about to be fired. The very last sketch with the 360 degree news was pretty good too. Lots of times the last few sketches of the episode that seem to be the ones that they think will be the weakest end up being my favorites.

I really like Kevin's standup but he wasn't that great this week. A few one liner laughs but overall another stinker of an episode. Also getting tired of the "racist" jokes - too easy to do and not really funny anymore. They're the same jokes Prior and Murphy told....

Lately I've been watching all the shows to their conclusion, but I made an exception last night. The only piece I liked was the audition for Dove chocolates (and the coffemaker, but I thought I had seen that before). That skit made me figure there might be some last=half-hour dementia to come, but I just couldn't continue. I guess they're saving their good stuff for Justin TImberlake next week.

No, he played the little girl from Beasts of the Southern Wild, Quvenzhané Wallis, in a skit.

More like he played Kevin Hart as Quvenzhané Wallis. He made no attempt at a straight up impersonation.
