It's funny, but like most SNL skits, it goes on WAYYY too long. Their format of each skit lasting the entire time between commercial breaks ruins a lot of good sketches.

Tech Talk is one of the funniest skits I've seen in a long long time.

"What does America make? Hmmm let's see. Diabetes?"

He's a good singer, that's all I knew about him. Not a great actor, but the stuff I've seen so far on DVR is quite promising. I watched up until the News so far and it's been a really good show so far. The new girls are getting a lot of work, which is nice to see and the Pandora and Sad Mouse bits were stellar to me. Brad Pitt for Taco Bell was also pretty damn funny. The debate opening was good. Sudekis is really good, but Pharoah still cant do much beyond the accent.

A while back (looking for shows to record) I give SNL a DVR series pass and deleted it after a few shows. Looked in a few times this year and I see it hasn't gotten any better (for me). Heck the real debate was funnier than theirs.

I thought this was one of the most consistently funny shows in quite some time. Bruno Mars is a tremendous talent (and very cute in drag). He was disappointing in "Yeti Point" but pretty good in some of the other stuff, and very moving in the "Sad Mouse" film. And the brief bit on the punk-rock fextival right before the curtain was hysterical. I think with enough study Mars could do comedy films.

And I think I may be warming up to Jay Pharoah a bit.

The only bad skit was the Yeti Point one. But even in that Bill Hader was great. Bruno couldnt pull off the funny face though. I love every time they do the festival ads. It always cracks me up when Ass Dan dies. Nasim is so hot in these.

He really is. Seems like a "natural". I was wondering how many times the host has also been the musical guest?

Anyone feel the Stefan skits are starting to become a little forced, i.e., he has to breakup laughing now and it's not as natural as it was before?

I liked the first one and kind of liked the second one. Now it's seems like they don't really care if what Stefan says is funny or not because people will laugh at the character any way.

As long as they continue to feed him the lines live as he's reading it, he's always going to crack up. Personally I thought this recent visit from Stefon was great. Jewish Dracula cracked me up too.

This part is key, and when I first found out that he has no idea what he's going to read before the live show, I gained a new-found admiration for Stefon. Part of the charm is seeing him crack up at whatever the writers came up with for him to say!

Given the fact that hader goes out there with material he,s never seen and just Wings it,
I,m good with whatever ensues. - usually good stuff. And hader,s breakups are part of what make stephon special.

Only caveat is limit the amount of times they can use it during each season. It won't be a recurring favorite if they run it into the. ground.

I agree. One, maybe 2 times a year is fine with me. Every time he breaks and laughs, I laugh, but less Stefon would definitely make the midget jokes funnier. I did enjoy the "fun sized" pinata midget story this past week though. The imagery on that was just....yuck. Loved it.

Hader originally made Stefon seem like a real life pretentious downtown New York hipster. They tend to believe that they're at the cutting edge of human entertainment and the creator of all trends just as they are oblivious or mocking as to what regular folk find entertaining. I loved his intense descriptions of ridiculous trendy places as if he believed they were truly revolutionary and every city was going to have something like them in a year.

After so many appearances he's lost his intensity and is more like an SNL character reading lines to me.

Did anyone else's affiliate mess up the commercial break before the Pandora skit? Mine started halfway through, so I missed the setup.

I checked Hulu, but they didn't add the sketch. Probably because of the music rights.

I got that sketch OK, and yes, you'll probably have to wait for the rebroadcast if you want to see that sketch in full.

I saw all of the singing, so I got the gist of the sketch. They came back from commercial right as Sudekis is asking Bruno Mars to sing, but I didn't see why. I gather from the context clues that power had gone out in the Pandora studios for some reason. Maybe I'll check via other "means" to see if I can find the first 30 seconds of the sketch.

First minute or so was just a setup to allow Bruno to do a few of his musical impressions. Must be one of his things.

This weekend Louis C.K. will still host an all new episode with musical guests "Fun", as scheduled.

On November 10, Anne Hathaway will host for the third time, with Rihanna making her fourth appearance as the musical guest.

The next week, Jeremy Renner will make his hosting debut, and Maroon 5 will be back for a fourth time.

I know Jimmy Fallon who does his show from 30 Rock was able to get an audience for Tuesday but not for Monday. I just hope the cast losing that one day of rehearsal can make up for it by really cramming to memorize their lines. Otherwise they'll have to deliver their lines by reading them right off the cue-cards. biggrin.gif

I don't expect much in the way of a real "show" this week, anyway.

Just one, giant, ninety minute-long campaign ad. smile.gif

The actual rehearsing doesn't begin until late in the week. They're still hashing out the scripts through Wednesday night.

It'll be interesting if they foist some of their ratty writing on him, or if they rise to the challenge. Or maybe he could even write the whole damn show.
