Anybody see this last nite. Somewhat interesting but will have to wait and see for final verdict.

Must admit that it reminded me of "The Shining".

In space, no one can hear you scream . . .

I saw it and it was okay. Nothing spectacular, but nothing so bad that I'd give up on it after one episode.

So, is Terry O'Quinn supposed to be Satan or is he just an evil Mr. Rourke?

Oh, and I'm predicting that that thief woman is going to be the dead daughter that Vanessa Williams was referring to.

I thought it had some nice "eye candy" and quite good looking HD. I'm going to give it one more chance before passing or setting up a season pass. Not bad but not love at first sight either.

Ratings were so so at best. It needs to maintain and grow on what it did get as it does not have much wiggle room if the ratings slide even a little bit.

Nice HD and suspenseful plot. A mystery that keeps you guessing. Worth the view just for Mercedes Masohn. Would not have guessed she is Swedish American!

This is a show I can get into if the long running arc has some depth to it.

Did anybody else think that the blurry guy standing in front of the basement "mystery door" in the old photograph looked like Gavin? I'm betting at some point the photograph will get "enhanced" (as inevitably seems to happen in TV shows) and reveal that Gavin was there decades ago. I'm guessing he made some human sacrifices back in the day to earn his status as a minion of darkness, or something, and now he has to harvest the souls of his tenants to keep his status, just as the people who sign his contracts have to "pay up" after they've gotten their hearts' desires.

I liked it.

My only concern is how long they can sustain people just disappearing before the new manager gets suspicious about where they go. You can only use the excuse that they moved out for so long before she's going to wonder why she never seems to actually see anyone moving out.

My one question would be, if you don't want anything, does the place have any hold over you? Are you safe from any sort of bargain?

The writer/off-off Broadway guy doesn't seem to have actually have had any real desire for the other woman other than catching a look now and then. Did he really want his wife (girlfriend?) to be out of the picture? He seemed pretty devoted. Has he unknowingly made a bargain? If so, that sounds like cheating and the Devil usually is very much into the details.

It's awfully tough to do horror on TV, especially broadcast TV. 'American Horror Story' wasn't really that scary; it just had a tremendous cast who generated a creepy vibe that made it fun. It will be interesting to see how they follow it up with this season's reboot. Other than O'Quinn, there's nobody really compelling on this show as the two new building managers are pretty bland, or more accurately, pretty and bland. I thought the guy who murdered for Durant to get his wife revived was an opportunity squandered - it all happened much too fast and if we had gotten a little more emotionally invested in them the inevitable outcome would have had more punch. We could have witnessed her decline over a couple of weeks and his sudden decision not to kill again didn't make a lot of sense given as how he agreed to it in the first place. Same with the concert violinist and his demise which opened the show (my wife was yelling "Keep running you dolt!"). And if an elevator had malfunctioned like that, it should have been more of a concern to the new building manager than it was. At a minimum, it would be shut down for awhile whilst the manufacturer went over it with a fine tooth comb. There would also be a hefty lawsuit coming. And so on....

Agree that if the overall arc is well-plotted it could be worthwhile, but I'm less enthusiastic about this show now that I've seen the opener. And I like Aleron Ives speculation above based on what we've seen so far.

I could see this happening. I'll also predict that her kleptomania is significant, too. She seems to have artifacts from all the tenants, which leads me to think that the things she steals are somehow related to what ties people to the building. I suspect that at some point Jane will be forced to steal back her necklace in order to save herself or her husband, because the stolen item grants Gavin some sort of other-worldly hold over its owner that can only be broken by retrieving the stolen property. Then again, maybe it's just an allusion to the way dragons are said to hoard valuables in their lairs.

My biggest concern is it will be to "light" of a show compared to American Horror Story being on a network channel. Afraid it may get cancelled but I am in for the ride.

She apparently has an ability to see certain parts of the original owner's future, as she did with Jane's necklace. Looks like Jane is going to be running from an ax-murderer soon a la "The Shining". I'd be asking Durant for a raise if that happens.

Well, why not? There ought to at least be a few perks associated with being a reanimated zombie child, and clairvoyance would do nicely. biggrin.gif

As a boy, if I were given special undead powers at that age (early teen), I'd want invisibility and X-ray vision...

This show immediately hit me as a mix of "The Shining" and "The Devil's Advocate" . The pilot was compelling enough to keep me interested for awhile.

Ok, here are my thoughts.

1. While Gavin and Henry were hitting balls into the water, Gavin mentions that he was the 666 building manager until he bought the building. This could be the beginning of the story arc that allows for Henry and Jane to replace Gavin and Olivia. Lots of ways to make this good or bad for either pair.
2. Again still on the ball hitting segment, Henry says that it may be illegal for him to have any contact with the guy that owns the property under review by the city. Don't be surprised to see Gavin use this against Henry. Lots of cameras in the world today. Proof of the encounter should be easily documented.
3. I agree with Aleron's comment that the blurry old photo of the group around the floor mosaic will be enhanced to reveal Gavin Doran. Why would you have such a beautiful floor mosaic in the basement?
4. The Barlow's don't seem to age. Jane found the article from an old newspaper regarding Mrs. Barlow's suicide. Also, their apartment must have been one of the units not updated. Their furniture appears to be early '30s and the wallpaper was very dated, too.

I've become way too invested in this from just one episode. I fell into that trap with Lost. The comment thread on this site for Lost was very active.

Actually, it had a vibe of "Needful Things" to me. Maybe they are all similar enough, but that is what came to mind almost immediately.
