this is a really interesting observation/potential plot line. I want to go back and watch the confrontation between Phil and the pastor – I wonder if there are any hidden tells in that scene. That would be a fun story line to explore.

Enjoyed this season, just finished up the last episode last night. I did wonder how many more people they have around to help with body clean-up considering the number of agents eliminated this season.

Imo, the best part of the show is the conflict in raising kids in an enemy land – trying to be a good parent, but still wanting to bring up kids that appreciate your ideals. The second gen agent makes this even more interesting.

So, if Page decides to try and go to the cops/FBI/etc, will they need to eliminate her? How can they possibly control that? Season 3 will be fun…

Shades of Nazi Germany with the children informing on the parents ... doesn't get any worse than that!

Wasn't just them. That sort of "ratting out" has been a feature of autocratic regimes for centuries.

Please do and give us a rundown. I have already deleted mine, unfortunately. Always interesting to go back and look at scenes with a different perspective. Smart shows always leave a trail of breadcrumbs ..... for the observant bird to pick up.

I remember watching AFN commercials that essentially told children to do exactly that.

Obviously, I don't know what the writers have in mind, but having lived through those times as an adult, I can tell you that plenty of people staged protests at nuclear facilities, military bases, etc., who were not sympathetic to or affiliated with Communism in any form (Soviet or otherwise).

There were many anti-nuclear protests in the United States which captured national public attention during the 1970s and 1980s. These included the well-known Clamshell Alliance protests at Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant and the Abalone Alliance protests at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, where thousands of protesters were arrested. Other large protests followed the 1979 Three Mile Island accident.[1]

A large anti-nuclear demonstration was held in May 1979 in Washington D.C., when 65,000 people including the Governor of California, attended a march and rally against nuclear power.[2] In New York City on September 23, 1979, almost 200,000 people attended a protest against nuclear power.[3] Anti-nuclear power protests preceded the shutdown of the Shoreham, Yankee Rowe, Millstone I, Rancho Seco, Maine Yankee, and about a dozen other nuclear power plants.[4]

Nuclear power became an issue of major public protest in the 1970s[10] and demonstrations in France and West Germany began in 1971. In France, between 1975 and 1977, some 175,000 people protested against nuclear power in ten demonstrations.[11] In West Germany, between February 1975 and April 1979, some 280,000 people were involved in seven demonstrations at nuclear sites.[11] Many mass demonstrations took place in the aftermath of the 1979 Three Mile Island accident and a New York City protest in September 1979 involved two hundred thousand people. Some 120,000 people demonstrated against nuclear power in Bonn, in October 1979.[11] In May 1986, following the Chernobyl disaster, an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people marched in Rome to protest against the Italian nuclear program,[12] and clashes between anti-nuclear protesters and police became common in West Germany.[13]

In the early 1980s, the revival of the nuclear arms race triggered large protests about nuclear weapons.[14] In October 1981 half a million people took to the streets in several cities in Italy, more than 250,000 people protested in Bonn, 250,000 demonstrated in London, and 100,000 marched in Brussels.[15] The largest anti-nuclear protest was held on June 12, 1982, when one million people demonstrated in New York City against nuclear weapons.[16][17][18] In October 1983, nearly 3 million people across western Europe protested nuclear missile deployments and demanded an end to the arms race; the largest crowd of almost one million people assembled in the Hague in the Netherlands.[19] In Britain, 400,000 people participated in what was probably the largest demonstration in British history.[20]

Not making any political statements here .... just a supposition on where a TV show might take it's plot next season. That said, wouldn't it make sense to foster internal strife in America, if you were Russia during that time period? I have no knowledge of said tactics one way or the other, but it makes logical sense to me that they would expect a benefit from our internal struggles, and would help in any way they could. I am not saying that these protesters were Communists, I am not saying that they were anything other than than true American patriots protesting what they believed to be wrong, what I am saying is that I could see the Russians supporting those efforts covertly through whatever means necessary.

just watched the last few minutes of ep 9, Martial Eagle. FX does have all the episodes on-line with a provider log-on. Here is the link. the scene with Phillip and the Pastor starts at about 43 min. (note: looks like link just goes to the last episode...cant figure out a direct link to ep. 9)

I dont think I picked up anything solid. Looks like the Pastor does go through a few different phases of an initial reaction...stretching here, but something like recognition, fake surprise, then oh, this is completely normal. the closing line by the pastor: "there is grace and forgiveness for you, for everyone" could have a larger meaning when applied to the context of the base attack in the prior episode, especially considering Phillip's struggle with what he did.

the wife was questioning the conversation between Page and the Pastor on the bus, where the Pastor was asking about problems at home. Not convinced, but something fun to think about...

I also got a creepy feeling with the same scene your wife pointed out. Young girls are so vulnerable, and I don't trust that guy! In any case, it'll be something to look out for next season.

Anyone else seeing their Tivos recording reruns of season 1, even though the Season Pass is set to only record new shows?
