Abundant OTA television is what makes this country different from all others. Lets keep it this way. If you like Wi-Fi so much, OTA fits right in. After all, it is wireless.

Best show on TV right now, IMHO, and criminally underrated. And yes, I know 'Justified' is back too.

Anyone that has bought or rented any of the season two DVD's (not BluRay) notice the interlace problem? Theses were from two sources and view on two TV's and two DVD players. Also viewing through a PC which is where the attached screen shots were taken. Season 1 was had no issue. I never encountered this before.

The 1st two are season one, the 3rd & 4th are season two. The entire season is the same from both sources Netflix & Family Video. I purposely include the task bar to confirm focus.

How is it underrated? Critics love the show, it regularly features in the press and magazines and has been up for over 20 awards (with some wins) and it's only in the third season.

The only drama to have a higher Metacritic rating last year was Game of Thrones!

I was referring to audience size and awards actually won. Outside of the AFI, it hasn't really won anything. I don't think it's even been nominated for a "best drama" Emmy. I know, the Emmy's are voted on by people who don't watch much television, but they still suck all the oxygen out of the TV awards room. And some love from the Emmy's might translate into more people finding the show.

Justified has never been nominated for a series Emmy either and it usually takes two seasons before any voters notice anything outside of network and HBO.

In 2007 Heroes was nominated for best drama, so to look for appreciation from just the Emmys doesn't count for much. The Americans gets more than it's share of appreciation from everyone that matters.

It's on FX anyway so it's ratings are never going to be greatly improved by being mentioned at the Emmys. Those looking for good drama already watch FX shows, the rest avoid the channel no matter what is on.

That was... abrupt. You'd think they'd announce the premiere date before the premiere date.

Oh, I thought people were just asking a page or two ago when it was coming back, and the reply was that nobody knew. It must have been for a different show.

The show was discussed on the Hollywood Prospectus podcast (Grantland). One of the guys said he had seen the first 4 episodes of the season and it was the best 4 episode stretch he had ever seen of the show. even better than last season.

Well...it's hard to say it was the best episode ever since they are all so good. What I will say is, even though we all know how this ends for the Russians, it is never clear what end will come for our "heroes". Case in point, last night's victim in any other show would likely never meet such a horrible fate as she did last night. I thought for sure it would be interrupted and she would be saved. Obviously I was wrong and the prolonged, drawn out scene, was almost hyper-realistic. It definitely hits you emotionally for a character that isn't nearly as beloved as our "heroes". Excellent show and writing as usual.

I suspect that was Andy Greenwald. He wrote a laudatory review of The Americans in a recent Grantland piece, calling it "the best show on television." I have a hard time disagreeing.

Good start. Those FBI agents really need to keep up with their self-defense training and spend less time eating federal-sized donuts.

Maybe he was on his way to the bar with all the others and got the APB on the radio as he happened to spot Elizabeth on the street?

Someone called in the incident because the cops were about to arrive, which Gaad could have done before they stopped the car.

The more important question to me is, why would Elizabeth not shoot that guy without any hesitation, especially when he had a good look at her?
When that scene occured I immediatly thought she would shoot him and that this would be a hefty big surprise right at the start of the new season.
They killed so many people, why would she risk her cover for him?

As to The Americans last night it was good, I liked it. Trained Soviet agent regularly takes on multiple opponents and wins. "That alone is different". John boy got his a** kicked. As to the Grantland review. Woah, woah, woah stop the clock. The best thing I saw on TV in 2014 was The Americans and I stand by it. I had to laugh, Better than Breaking Bad, Justified, Louie, Ray Donovan, Homeland??? He** no. Better than the Strain, ok maybe, let alone The Walking Dead, by the numbers, it even beats the NFL.... The writer at Grantland must get paid by the word, or pound. Shorter would be better, IMO.

Because as they discovered previously, the death of an agent has a major ripple effect leading to increased police manhunts, vengeance and drags every agency into the firing line.

Sort of in line with the situation between the US and Soviet Union agents in Europe, especially when Germany was divided. Don't kill ours and we won't kill yours.

It could also be that Elizabeth remembered who he was and spared him for whatever reason. I forgot they have actually met before at Beeman's house warming party.

I am wondering if that encounter will have consequences. Did we actually see the suspect sketch the FBI team said was almost done?

I did not remember who Gabriel was until I read an episode review today.

Agree with both of Vision's statements about why Elizabeth didn't shoot Gaad. It would bring on too much heat, and she probably recognized him. Fortunately for her, in his concussed and groggy state, he didn't remember her (it will be interesting to see what the sketch artist comes up with). But will that change the next time he runs into her socially? And was Stan starting to put 2 + 2 together, having seen Elizabeth nursing her injuries the night before?

Thought Nina was a goner back in Russia. Being accused of espionage and treason was pretty much a death sentence back then (and maybe even now as well). Either quick, by firing squad, or slowly and miserably in a Siberian gulag. But I liked how they left her fate somewhat open-ended, contingent on Arkady's actions...? Not clear on how he can help her now.

There were a couple of head-scratchers for me regarding the new characters that have been introduced (and in one case, quickly dispatched). Those recruitments must have taken place during the break between last season and this in "show time". But I expect all that background will be clarified going forward. Love the addition of the great Frank Langella as, perhaps, their first handler? Also looking forward to the return of Margo Martindale as Claudia now that she's freed up from 'The Millers' or whatever that sitcom nonsense she was slumming in has been cancelled.

There are endless arguments about what is "the best show on television". From the very first episode of this series, I was sure this was going to be a contender and have expressed that sentiment many times here and elsewhere (the transcendent 'Breaking Bad' was #1 for me, 'Justified #2 ). This show, like BB, is nearly perfect on every level and also like BB, seems to get better every year. Already looks like this season will be no different. Bring it on! This is really good stuff, folks.

Langella's character of Gabriel was mentioned by Claudia back in season 1 briefly because she was taking his place. So Gabriel was their original handler. And yes I cheated and got that from the recap on hitfix.com because I didn't remember it at all.

Did I miss where the blonde that was choked was in last season? Maybe she wasn't.
