Quick break from panning the show to discuss some actual plot elements: looks like Carroll may be setting up a 'choose who lives' scenario between Clare and agent Parker, ala the Joker in The Dark Knight: put two individuals close to Hardy in peril, and give him the choice of saving one or the other.

I'm not quite sure why I'm still watching the show - I guess it's mostly for its comedic value.

Don't see how they can carry over this plot to a season 2
If so, it will have a few less viewers from my family!

Is there pirate treasure?

That might actually improve the show...

Your post actually reminds me...

Joe's whole thing is modelling himself after Poe. My issue with this is, other than reciting some vague lines that match up with a couple methods of killing coupled with a dude dressed up like Poe, this show really hasn't done a good job at all of really embracing the mythology.

What I mean is, it would be nice to see a more direct attempt at recreating scenes from the books or at least using them more often as clues, such as giving a line that leads to a clue by looking it up in a particular edition of a book.

Instead, all we get are the occasional wackos reciting lines from books that hint at the method of death right before they start hacking and slashing at random people. That's a lame tie-in.

I know that's not a new idea, but the stuff they're doing isn't good or original enough to bother trying to make it something different. Besides, many serial killers have modeled themselves after others. It wouldn't be out of the question for Joe to use an unoriginal method of messing with Hardy.

If it stays the same story, then I'm out, but I may reconsider if it's like 24 where each season is a new threat.

I'm amazed that after what we were told was years of planning this was the best this supposedly brilliant writer/teacher could come up with. I know it's also limited by the show's writer's limited imaginations.

Has there been evidence that the writers of this show have imaginations?

So instead of stabbing the serial killer that has told you he is going to kill you, and ending all this, she decides to put the knife down and run out the door. Not hardly. Couple stabs to the obviously incapacitated serial killer and everything is solved.

The better question is: After telling Clare multiple times how he was going to kill her, her stabbing him and escaping, her being recaptured while allowing the couple he was going to killescape, what are the odds Joe will actually kill her?

My Vegas bet is, don't bet on Clare sleeping with the fishes.

Just the fact that Joe had her captured and brought back instead of giving the order to The Bobbsey Twins to just kill her on sight says she isn't slipping of this mortal coil anytime soon.

Yeah... have to admit... the Poe references are rather poor. When you really think about it, aside from the few quotes and people reminding us every once in a while, you can barely see the Poe influence on Joe's machinations.

In truth... the pilot episode should have set that up... and then they wouldn't have to remind us... because they would just slide the references in and you would feel how Joe is channeling Poe... but you don't. It feels a lot like in Star Trek Undiscovered Country when the Klingon keeps quoting Shakespeare for no reason... you could take it all out without changing the plot... which means it isn't terribly integral.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

Joe can't die. This show has nothing without him. The only way he can die is by allowing his character to come back next season in flashbacks/recordings, etc. So Joe dies, but he has various machinations in play, and various recordings of Joe are sent to Ryan from time to time. If they try to replace Joe with a similar character, well, they might as well just let Joe live.

Is there really anyone else of importance? I don't even care about Ryan. And that's part of the problem-get rid of Joe, and you're left with a whole lot of nothing.

I think I'm putting a lot more thought into this show than the actual writers.

I think we all have put a lot more thought into this series than the writers. I don't see them killing off Joe. I can see putting him back in jail maybe so we have another Red Dragon type of scenario where Hardy has to consult to track down Joe's followers that slipped thru that tight FBI noose last week. Clare is expendable so is Parker. Where did Hardy's last love interest disappear to, the one in the tape? She wants to be the one to kill Hardy so maybe she'll be back tonight. I do know that no matter how it ends I won't be back next season.

It's going to be between saving Parker and Claire... of course he's gonna go save Claire, but ala "Dark Knight" style, he thinks Claire is in one place and end up saving Parker and his love dies, this will allow Joe's escape while Ryan weeps

RIP Mom, we always love you 8/18/13

Maybe some of these writers could get wacked off of the series for writing this garbage week after week. Wish this was the series finale instead of the season finale..

Ouch...harsh but accurate. I was hoping for a great conclusion and got a playbook ending. Sad ......frown.gif

What a POS. First the buried alive "suspense," which has been done to death on tv and in movies-didn't they even do a Quincy episode on that? Then the big final chapter, which turns out to be a big nothing, with Joe "dying," even though we all know he didn't die. Then the James Bond denouement-and a cliffhanger? Really?

I don't know who is more of a hack-Joe Carroll or Kevin Williamson.

I'm done.

I called it before, Season 2 is Joe on super secret book tour wink.gif Ryan hunts him down and nearly misses him each week only 2 book stops behind him each episode....Claire is recovering from a near fatal wound utnil mid season where she is finally released, at which point everyone falls asleep for a few episodes until the cliffhanger in the finale, where we wned with Ryan facing joe, the camera pans to Ryan and he fires to shots, fade to black....Come to find out this is all part of the making of Joes book into a movie....

Why is it that every time the FBI has an location under there control the followers seem magically be on the other side of there perimeter? I think the show is so bad that it makes me keep watching. Jerry Springer has a better plot and character development.

Claire is the new Kim Bower. The only thing missing last night was her running into a mountain lion. Wait, maybe thats why it was suddenly dark when they reached the street, it took them 4 hrs to escape from it!

They will out do 24 by somehow bringing joe back. He's not really dead even with a dental match and dna somehow

Its pretty obvious the show creator and writers never envisioned a 2nd season. Clare talking to joey on the phone and then the high shot at the lighthouse had all the feelings of a series finale

So Debra is "buried alive", and the top of the box is nailed down... Pretty aggressive torture scene to get the info... Ryan and the kid find her and easily open the box by pulling the top off.... No Tools... HMMMM..
Where is the guy that stabbed the needle in Ryan's neck..... That's who is dead
Very lame fight and fire... Joe got out the back door...
Said it before, 15 episodes is too many for this writing team....11 good episodes sounds about right next year....
If Claire is Kim B, has she said damnit yet???
